AMD Confirms Ryzen 7 2800H Processor Energy Efficiency and 2018 Release Date

AMD has officially confirmed that the AMD Ryzen 7 2800H processor is more energy efficient than current 2017 models and will have a 2018 release date. Rumors about this new processor have been making the rounds since June as it and a Ryzen 5 2600H reportedly showed up in the Ashes of the Singularity benchmark database at that time. Click the footnotes under the last video on the page to see the AMD reveal. I wonder if this means a 7nm process for the "Raven Ridge 2018" processors?

4c,8t, what clocks?

Great progress on efficiency, but given their starting point is wasn't a huge task to improve.
 
The more power you can give to the GPU the better, especially if you can get the ram clocks up.
 
This will be interesting to see when released. Intel's trick is to lower performance to get lower thermal design and power usage. Will AMD follow suit with these processors, or will it be new, more efficient technology? Either way, it will be nice to have the options.

It's not a trick, its a fundamental law of physics and I don't think AMD is going to be breaking those anytime soon.

if the 2800H is using zen+ that alone is better efficiency clock for clock over the original zen architecture.. note, they never say how MUCH more efficient it is, just it's more efficient.
 
I think he just meant that Intel lowers the clocks on their low power models, the i7-8700 runs 3.2/4.6 @ 65w, while the i7-8700T runs 2.4/4.0 @ 25w.

That is what I mean. As opposed to node enhancement, process refinement, etc., that increases efficiency. Will the "H" processors simply be lower clocked version, or will they be a process refinement that gives better efficiency? The latter option is certainly more exciting, but either way, I'll be happy to see them, and eager to see the real-world results.
 
Ryzen 7 naming but still a 4c/8t like the current Ryzen 5 Raven Ridge APUs?
 
Im all for them pushing these APUs, love my 2200G! but im wondering here they used the 2700U with DDR4 2400 as the 2017, and the 2800H with DDR4 3200. The memory speed on these is the main limiting factor. So it seems this is just a more optimized raven ridge. I hope AMD specs that its DDR4 3200 only. If it is 7nm that would be amazing, Zen+ would help as well! Looking forward to the future iterations
 
Cool. I'm sorta half assed shopping for a raven ridge laptop, but there aren't that many and not sure I'm in love with HP any more.

(no word on the clocks of the graphics, here is hoping they are as good as the chine only model ^.^
that is AMD Subor while it might be "slower" for the cpu frequency with only 4 core 4 thread?
it also has much meatier gpu portion effectively vega 24 so likely this would mean for sure 1080p in most cases
that much better end user performance expectation...honestly do not know why AMD did not do this for north american market........might mean very very good APU once 7nm comes full circle)

it very well could be a "simple" to 12nm, it could also be just a ton of bin testing to get the "cream of the crop" for these H chips (vs the G or U based ones) who knows. the drop from 14nm to 12nm helps but then again there will always be "golden samples" of production runs of chips that are much much lower power consumption and so forth.

where the metal meets the proverbial road is what they will cost and how they perform.
 
I bought a 1.2kg ultrabook with a 2500u. It's almost shocking how cool and fast it is, given it's chassis, until it starts throttling after a few minutes of heavy duty. But AMD needs to fix the Ryzen APU freezes under Linux. She can tolerate windows, I can't.

Right, I'm just saying it's still a Raven Ridge part and we don't currently have any Ryzen 7 parts other than the 2700U to compare to.
 
I wonder if it will be unpurchasable for self builds like its predecessors. These seem good for micro pc’s.

My guess is the H series is for full-size laptops and thin desktops while the U series is for ultrabooks.
