Monster Hunter: World

this game is very much a mixed bag for me. I like some of the things it does but on the other hand just lots and lots of things are incredibly obscure and inconsistent. Things just are not explained. Like there are lifts at the base, or you can fast travel through the map. How to change palico equipment? Not from the chest where you change your own. google. How to capture monsters? google.

multiplayer is the worst I have experienced in any similar multiplayer game. The port thingy above helped for a while and then problems recurred.

251,134 309,108 MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD

there is an incredible amount of people playing, so either you can never connect, or never find a mission type relevant to what you want to play, or you make a mission to which nobody ever joins. They seem to use some weird system, where players are grouped together on a server, and maybe this is the pool where possible missions are chosen. If you make your own server chances of connecting with people appears to be much worse and more limited. Although sometimes that is the only way you can actually play.

The weapons are also confusing. A better way to think of them is as representing character classes that use the same buttons, but everything else is completely different in learning how to build damage and trigger special effects/attacks. At 30 hours I still don't know how to trigger all my longsword moves. Other stuff like ammo you find and can throw, I don't know the relevance of. I am sure it is useful, just I don't understand the context.

Then you have idiots everywhere on the base, providing different functions. Youtube again, a 5 minute video on what you should be "doing" between fights. Like holy shit. Go here for research, there to turn stuff in, pet the pig, collect your gardening, restock.... meld shit..... check for new stuff to craft....
I agree with you. Game has many hidden things and little documentation .

Welcome to Monster Hunter. ;)

In all seriousness, there are tutorials for virtually all of that stuff in the game, which is more than can be said for basically all of the previous titles. The problem is that most of the tutorials are either buried in the pause menu, or they flash up on screen as a block of text that I suspect most people just skip over.

There are definitely a few things that are not really explained well at all - Bounties and Investigations being two of the big ones, and those are important to get going as soon as possible.

I highly recommend checking out the weapon tutorials by Gaijin Hunter and/or Arekkz Gaming. Messing with the weapons in the Training Area is great as well, since you can follow combos on-screen.

Monster Hunter: World Passes 10 Million Units Shipped
Monster Hunter: World is Capcom's "best-selling game" ever.
1u6f8v.jpg

"Monster Hunter World has now shipped more than 10 million units, including digitally delivered units. ..... Capcom also confirmed that the entire Monster Hunter franchise has now sold more than 50 million combined units as of August 20. The franchise debuted in 2004." (source)

PC sales are currently estimated at above 2 million and still growing.

I am in the HR part now and I have to say while the monsters I am fighting now seem to have more HP, the difficulty seems basically be the same, but the what makes it harder and annoying is how something always comes in to ruin my fights. I have not had a single fight yet where I haven't been otherwise been interrupted or chased away from my target by another giant beast.

Throw some shi-, I mean, dung pods at the enemies cramping your style.

so how far are you guys and what weapons are you using? I just hit HR and am using longsword

I use a hammer. For me I just recently really started using it often because it has a great move when sliding at the beast. I charge and move to a higher spot with a slope, then as I slide and get close I release the charge button and do multiple spins in the air for lots of damage and occasionally land on it's back for some fun stabbing time. :)

LOL I completely forgot there are dung pods. I haven't collected them since the first few times I played cause I didn't find them useful/needed.

Longsword is a fine choice, that was my main for MH3U, 4U, and World on PS4.

I've been going with Bow on my PC playthrough. Just took down Pink Rath, still rocking the low rank armor.

Made it past Nergi the other day. I forgot how bullshit some of his hitboxes are, I'm used to fighting him with the lance and just blocking everything. Plus my armor isn't top-tier yet so there's that. The bow wrecks him pretty hard, though, all things considered.

Supposedly they patched the game to help with some of the connectivity issues:

The following fixes have been made in regards to the connection issues:

- Fixed an issue where error messages would display and kick players offline when searching for online sessions.
Also readjusted the matchmaking function to make it easier to find an online session via "Search for an Online Session" > "Matchmake".

- Fixed an issue where error messages would display and kick players offline after having joined an online session.

- Fixed an issue where error messages would display and kick players offline while playing multiplayer.
This adjustment reduces the number of occurrences, though it does not completely resolve the issue. We will continue to investigate this matter.

- Fixed an issue where the error message "E_FAIL : hr" would display and the game would crash when switching to full screen mode.

Important: You must update to the latest version of MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD to apply the fixes above. The latest version of the game is revision number 151910. You must close and reopen the game for the update to take place. You can verify the version number in the top-left corner when you launch the game in window mode. Keep in mind that you can only match with other players who have the same update version as you.

Some folks have been saying you just see less session now, which doesn't seem so much like a "fix" as a workaround. But if it makes the ones you can connect to more stable, that's a huge improvement.

You all able to run this at a consistent 60fps at 4k at all? I'm getting 40-60 with my setup, all maxed except volumetric fog or whatever it's called.

40-60 FPS at 4K seems pretty good...definitely playable.

Also, check your logins, there is a new item pack coming out with some really good stuff:

The Hard Armor Spheres are great, the Gold Eggs can be sold for a lot of Zenny, and the Gold Wyverian Prints can be traded in for a monster gem of your choice.

I'm only HR11, but it really feels like grinding is not the way to go. At least until end game I'm guessing.

With Insect Glaive I have to force myself to just keep pushing onward instead of farming and doing side quests.

The only monsters I seem to have trouble with, well not trouble but they take forever, are ones that like to fly away a lot.

I would only really grind if you need a specific material for something you want to make. You can sell excess monster parts for money so it's not useless, but you can end up spending a lot of time.

My big issue is farming comsumable items and research points fast enough to keep up with usage. I'm used to having virtually unlimited Mega Barrel Bombs on my PS4 playthrough, as well as stuff like Max Potions and tons of Flashbugs.

Speaking of which, for flying enemies...bring Flash Pods. Bring them basically every fight. You can bring 3 pods and then 10 more Flashbugs to craft on the fly. I have my downward radial menu set up to craft Flashpods.

SO useful, as for flying assholes like the Rath family, you can basically just stunlock them by flashing in front of them when they fly. Makes them fall to the ground and stay down for a short period, and then they kind of stand around looking derpy for a bit while they recover. You can get a ton of damage in.

They patched the game awhile back so that you can't just spam Flash Pods with Tempered monsters, as after 4 or so they build up an immunity to them.

I just have one thing to say, Kirin, what a ****. That lightning attack is so dam OP. It takes off like 2/3-3/4 of my HP bar with a full +50 canteen buff. So little margin for error, and he can paralyze you occasionally and that is a almost guaranteed faint.

I assume this is regular Kirin, in which case...wait until you get to Tempered Kirin. Ohh boy.

Couple of tips - boost your Lightning resistance if you can, or eat for Elemental Resistance (L). Use Vitality gems, or make the Vitality charm if you can - gives you an extra +50 HP, on top of the +50 you can get from the Canteen, or from eating a Max Potion.

I found Kirin to be almost a joke using a ranged weapon (Bow, specifically) rather than melee. He hops around so much and is so small compared to other monsters it's damn hard to hit him with melee. Also, when he goes Super Saiyan, your hits will bounce most of the time, leaving you open to follow-up attacks.

Good luck, he can be quite a pain in the butt. You might want to look at crafting some lightning resist armor like Tobi Kadachi's.

At least he doesn't have a gem you have to farm for.

just curious, can you contrast what you like vs dislike about the pc vs ps4 versions?

Pros of PS4: Has more content, seems to be more stable in terms of connectivity, I have 400 hours into my save there. :(

Pros of PC: Performance is much better, load times are much better, it looks just as good if not better on PC.

I can see prioritizing the PC version once it gets up to parity with the PS4 content-wise (if that happens). Beyond the rotating event quests and occasional new content on the PS4, I feel like I've hit a bit of a plateau there.

I think my PC playthough is a lot more efficient, though. Plus I know all of the monsters so well that I can pretty much get through the game in low-rank armor if I really wanted to. So far I have around 30 hours or so into the PC version and I'm getting close to end-game already.

PSA: if you are using the latest Nvidia drivers, drop them to 398.36 or you will be having an awful time with the Kushala. With the latest drivers I was running 60 fps all through the game till I fought it, and then it dropped to sub 30 fps (like 21-28). After the downgrade I was back to normal. So there is definitely something wrong in the 398.82 drivers with this game. Now I need to try the VRQ settings again to see if the hit is nearly as bad with these .36 drivers as it was in the .82 drivers.

still no official patch released for the game?...any new info on an HD Texture Pack?

https://www.dsogaming.com/news/mons...ead-dedicated-to-anti-debug-code/#more-116458

According to the modder, Monster Hunter World is currently unable to properly detect the number of CPU cores that PC gamers have in their systems. The game’s logic assumes that everyone has a 32-core processors and scales its threads accordingly, even though some gamers can only have CPUs with only 4 or 8 cores/threads.

Alright, I think we need someone with a 2990wx to test the game out. I'll be getting a 2950x in a week or so, so will see if it runs better than my current 5960x.

They had to have done something in regards to the connectivity stuff.

A week or two ago I was basically only able to play solo. Now, it just works. Haven't had a single hiccup.

They patched the connection issues, though it seems more like a workaround, because half the time you only see a couple of sessions, half the time you see many. I haven't had a single disconnect after the patch, though, so that's good.

Regarding textures...with that low res fix mod I posted above, everything looks really good to me. I wouldn't really worry about the texture quality, it's more than sufficient. I'd love to get 4K textures or something, but not at the cost of framerate.

I think the game looks pretty damn gorgeous to be honest. Dat view distance tho.

I'm still on 388.71 apparently...lol. I don't think about updating my graphics drivers much anymore, and I don't use GeForce Experience so it doesn't tell me when there's an update.

Yeah I don't run GF Experience either, I just try to keep up to date as much as I can. But in case anyone is wondering, I refought Kushala with 399.07 and abandoned the mission. It's still broken so I went back to 398.36. As far as VRQ settings, they seemed to be the same across all three versions so I just keep it at low. Off was fine, but I prefer it on. The difference isn't all that noticeable between Highest and Low settings other than the frame hit, so I'll keep it on Low. :)

Okay. I'm doing 7 star HR runs now. The grind is on the horizon. It isn't bad, yet. I just got the end tier Sleep Glaive and it only took 3-4 quests to get the mats.

But I feel like its gonna start ramping up on the farming real quick.

Mainly the gem farming is what can take time. There are also a few materials that can be kind of a pain to get - Vaal Hazak fangs and Xeno tails, for instance.

It is very much a fun game. The grind depends on how far you want to go into endgame (I am guessing). I am also doing the 7 star cleanup before moving on to the next state

Yeah, you can very much get through the entire game without having to grind. Hell, you could get through the entire game in low-rank (or no) armor if you're good enough. The grind comes in for late-game gear, weapons, and the augment system, as well as RNG decoration drops. You can game that last system a bit, but it's a bit tedious to do so.

However, you don't NEED to do any of that to have fun with the game and play all of the current content.

Yeah I'm sitting somewhere at 45hrs put into it so far and I'm still only lvl 13 or 14 or something.

It has just enough variety where you can sit there for a few hours just exploring and collecting new items and stuff, but when you get tired of that there is always a myriad of quests to go hop in and do.
It really helps it from getting stale.

what does 7 star mean?...and how many states are there in the game?...is it like NG+, NG++ etc?...so there's not 1 end-game where you finish the entire game and beat all the monsters?

I wouldn't think of it as NG+

The higher star quests you get to go on, you face new monsters. The items are also new the higher you go.

The way they label stuff in game might lead you to think its just NG+ crap though.

You start off lvl 1-10 in low tier, then after that it does sort of throw the same stuff at you again but High Tier. Once you hit high tier all sorts of new stuff starts getting thrown at you though. I think 1-10 is meant to be sort of a tutorial - albeit an extremely long tutorial.

Yeah, so to elaborate, your "level" is called your Hunter Rank. You start out at 1 and as you go through Low Rank (beginner monsters/quests/armor sets) you gain Hunter Rank sequentially. After the second Zorah Magdaros quest, you get into High Rank which is the same monsters, except tougher (more HP/do more damage), as well as some new monsters that are only in High Rank. Usually these are variants of existing monsters, but there are also some completely new ones. Once you complete the game (won't spoil it), your Hunter Rank unlocks and will jump up to around 20-ish, more if you have done more quests. The game keeps track of your Hunter Rank progress as you do quests, even if your rank is still "locked" because you haven't done a certain quest to progress the story.

At HR 29, you will get another quest that requires you to pass it to allow your HR to go further. There is another at 49, and then it's unlocked from there, though there is a special quest at HR 100. Beyond that it's just basically a measure of how much time you've put into the game. I think I'm at around HR 280 on the PS4, with about 400 hours played.

As for the quest "star" levels, basically anything 1-5 is considered Low Rank, anything 7-9 is High Rank. 9 is pretty much specifically Tempered monster fights (same moves/HP, but hit a lot harder than normal monsters)

so High Rank 29 is the last original monster/quest and you will have faced every monster there is?...High Rank 49 and 100 are just bonus missions?...no more new ones, just recycled ones with more health?...so is there a level/rank cap?
