Unboxing the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro

Boo, I thought the wireless headset came with it, but no that's an extra hundy.

Still, these are going to sell quick.... maybe I get one and flip it.

I wouldn't mind one of those translucent controllers either, but I doubt those things are going to be on sale, ever.

I still really like my white one, with the white controllers. 50000 may be a limited run, but not going to be a rarity to collectors I do not imagine. I pass...its ugly.

On a side note, I also don't think that modern consoles will be as collectable as older consoles, since older consoles could all continually operate as stand-alone consoles.
These newer consoles, however, have to be setup/registered via the Internet and via their Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo servers, and once those servers shutdown, and a console hasn't already been setup, it is basically a paperweight - this makes the value in collecting them for their playability, virtually nil.

I can go buy a PS2 and play any game on it at any time without worry, and keep it pristine on a shelf as well.
15 years from now, I can go buy a PS4, but oh wait - has it been setup? What games can I play that don't require servers or online functionality to work? Am I just collecting it for the console itself as a period-piece or to actually play?

Yeah, all of those things are going to significantly lower the value outside of hardcore collectors, and even then, they may have to go through multiple units to get a playable console.
For collectability, this current generation of consoles is quite the paradigm shift from the previous generations because of this, and they most likely are not going to have the same value years from now like the others have had due to the above potential issues.

You've also got that the older consoles are solid state, and will survive way better than optical drive consoles ever will.

Find an NES in the store? It probably works, or at worst, needs a 10$ replacement cartridge header. PS1? Ooph, better hope that CD drive works...

I think these go on sale tonight at midnight. If I'm still conscious I might check amazon.

It was either 11 or 12 AM Eastern Standard Time, not sure which because Amazon was being hammered so much I was getting either random dogs "sorry, we couldn't find that page" or the item page saying the item is unavailable. It sold out in less than 30 seconds. GameStop was 12 AM EST and hammered too, selling out within a minute or so (they had 3 different item listings, 2 of them bundles). Best Buy was 12 AM EST and sold out in about 10 minutes. The insane scalper listings immediately showed up on Amazon and eBay, lol.

Edit: Amazon was 12 AM EST and Best Buy was 1 AM EST, sorry I was tired. Walmart and Target were the next morning. People were reporting better luck in general with the phone apps for each store. Amazon did a trick to fool the scalper bots on their website by keeping the listing set to "Currently Unavailable" with no add to cart button and you needed to go the offers listing link when it appeared below. I doubt it helped, because it is easy to generate that link anyway.

The PS2 actually got firmware updates. I still have my launch unit with the HDD/internet adapter add on and it is working just fine.
It did. Also games had bios updates for the ps2 also. The updates themselves weren't really anything major. Even having the original firmware wouldn't effect your gaming.
