Should have called the tower and requested a flyby.

He most definitely was suicidal.

"Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose I guess. Never really knew it, until now."
His last words were "I think I am going to try out a barrel roll, and if that goes good I'm going to nose down and call it a night."
Cost of a 25 year jail sentence:Your tax dollars are being spent on the investigation and now the cleanup of the wreckagelol maybe he should of played less HAWX and more flight sim X.. he might of actually figured out how to land it. sucks for all the people this guy's retarded stunt effected but glad my tax dollars aren't going to paying for him sitting in jail cell for the next 25 years.
see thats why I thought it was intentional and re fuel maybe he wanted to make sure he was clear of civilians, only hurt himself?Ah, I missed that part.
Sounds to me like he maybe turned suicidal as the joyride went on?
Otherwise it makes no sense that he would be so concerned about his fuel levels.
ban the internet!!Fuck, I can learn to make explosives on the internet, I can learn to hide my DNA on the internet, I can learn how to hack on the internet, how to make methamphetamine, print 3D guns, hell I could probably find the answers to any university professor's tests on the internet.
Listening to the recording, I feel bad for this kid he sounded like he was in a lot of pain. I don't understand what is going on with the youth today.
Oh then when we get to the real world we find out that no matter how hard we work 99% of the time it goes to enrich someone else and we get paid shit for it.
Waaahhh - if you really are working that hard and that outstanding that your employees is making that much off of your awesome labors then you would be an idiot to not go into business for yourself and keep it all.
If you have the guts. I had my own business for a couple of years. Luckily it was when I was younger, still living at home and had low overhead - it's not as easy as people who have never had to have a significant role in the operations of an enterprise. Which, unsurprisingly, is the majority of Internet keyboard jockeys - business owners are too busy to waste time posting in forums. I no longer have that business because I realized at the time I wasn't ready for it. And I like having paid time off, sick leave, health insurance and all the other benefits that come from helping to enrich someone else who provides those benefits.
And they probably aren't getting as much as you think either.
But you don't have to do that. My parents worked for others but still managed to accumulate significant wealth. My dad got a real estate license and bought and sold land as a second job. My mom's salary went into investments, we lived off of his salary. I didn't have a poor childhood by any stretch, but instead of new cars every 2-4 years and all kinds of useless crap, extravagant trips, eating out on a routine basis (don't think that shit adds up? Keep your receipts and do the math!) that are common in many American households, they instead invested and over the years retired early with millions in assets.
It isn't just hard work, but what you do with your hard work that is going to determine success. How many Hollywood types make 10's if not 100's of millions but go bankrupt on a regular basis? If you send more than you make your going to run out of money. It shouldn't be a complicated equation but it's amazing to me how often people discount stuff like that.
So yeah, stop complaining about others holding you back. Or if you really want to change it - then by god either get a better job or create your own. But enough with blaming other people for lording over you. There's nothing restricting you to your current employer or your current situation. If you don't like it, change it! America still is the land of opportunity - otherwise we wouldn't have such a problem with illegal immigration. There seem to be a lot of people hell bent on destroying that tho, so you better get on it and ditch the pity party.
and to think something as simple as a key could have prevent all this
Most pilots assume that as well. You wouldn't believe how many BFRs I have given where the pilot was shocked when the stall warning horn goes off at 80kts during a turn from base to final...
A stall can occur at any airspeed. I think even Flight Sim Pro could show this. It can even occur in nose low situations. There is an angle of attack called the critical angle of attack at which smooth airflow over the wing ceases (which decreases lift causing the stall). Stall characteristics vary based upon wing design.
Here is a good way to demonstrate a stall at higher airspeeds than normal (we CFI's call this an accelerated stall). CAVEAT: I am providing a generalized procedure for use in a simulator ONLY.
- Slow the simulated aircraft to its cruise speed.
- Ensure flaps are retracted.
- Roll into a 50 degree bank.
- Reduce power to idle.
- Continually add back pressure to the yoke (pull nose up in non pilot speak) until the aircraft stalls.
- Note airspeed at which aircraft stalls. it will be higher than if you did a power off stall. Or a power on one even.
- Recover.
Here is a good video showing the stall progression from the inside of the wing to out. Most small aircraft are designed to stall wing root out for increased control effectiveness and recovery during stalls.
Notice how the stall starts at the wing root and progresses outward. Also notice how rapid the onset of the full stall is and how lift immediately decreases and how gravity brings that nose down because nothing is holding it up anymore.

If you want to prevent your car from getting stolen, get a manual.Since when did a simple key stop your car from being stolen?
yes he did die in the crash - https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/12/us/richard-russell-q400-flight-simulator.html
Is the Q400 capable deep stall because of the high elevator? I'm no pilot, but I've read that can get pretty interesting. Probably moreso for an amateur.
You know, it sucks for the airline and everything, but I'll take one of these types of suicides over the active shooter / suicide by cop. At least he didn't take anyone else with him. I feel like the guy would have lived to be a legend, you know, had he lived.
Tony Hawk Pro Pilot?
Was not to far from the crash, flew right over us. I was thinking wtf, is that jet doing so low?
But I do wonder, can we get some kind of 2 factor authtication to start these things?
Great. Getting ready for the calls to ban flight simulator games.
I didn't say they would get banned - I said get ready for the calls to ban them. Of course, only allowed for use by the responsible and appropriate government agencies!USAF won't allow it, they're a recruiting tool.

Most untrained people wont experience effects until 4-6Gs.

You mean like this?Yup. This is why we need legal and publicly available suicide services! Life is not all that great , it contains plenty of suffering and its nice if people can make a quick exit when they want to! It also allows people to vote with their lives if they don't like their government.
