Amd vega 8 driver 18.51 install mod

Well for some crazy reason it requires the latest version of Windows 10? It won't install, says it does not support my version of windows.

Check out my screenshot, so do you recommend me upgrade or update to a newer version?

I'm on 1607 right now, but I want to remain on old version, but I guess I must upgrade to use Vega Graphics?

Now I installed 1803 & 18.8.1 installed without an issue, now I wanna install CCC2.exe I guess from 18.7.1?

First thing I notice is immense performance & its 16 ROP 32 TMU but it has TDP throttling like crazy is why it doesn't perform like a top all the time. It runs pretty damn good though.

Does this help with getting a few more frames out of games? What does this exactly do? I'm t hinking about buying a Ryzen 2500u laptop and curious on what this is

It depends on the laptop in question. In the case of the 2500U HP x360, there has not been much in the way of driver updates since November 2017. Any new games you may play after that likely would not be optimized and have worse performance as a result. There are some games that on ocassion won't even run without an updated driver installed as we have done here.

In terms of non-gaming improvements I am less sure. AMD always releases driver patch notes with any major features/fixes thay are added. You should be able to see if it would be worth your effort to update drivers by reading through the driver changelogs.

Sometimes there will be updated features thay AMD will add to their driver suite as well which makes updating worthwhile.

If the laptop is for work you may want to stick to official drivers just for the best stability. Overall these unofficial drivers work quite well, but your mileage may vary.

Additionally, I would check out laptop reviews at NotebookCheck.net as they have thoroughly reviewed a number of 2500U amd 2700U laptops that you can look at.

This is driver updates is all, the latest 18.8.1 works without modding anything & The Radeon Vega 8 is a really solid performer. It was playing Black Mesa at 4k ultra without an issue on the Source Engine.

I am tempted to install 1803 but the last time it totally borked my machine. I wonder if ms has fixed most of the problems?

Backed up c drive to Macrium image and am downloading 1803 as I write this....

So far absolutely nothing is working right. EVen when I wiped the drivers totally nada the HP june driver package only installs the oct 2017 driver I don't know why. I was able to force install the 18.81 driver but not the ccc.. It looks like I'm going back to 1709. or maybe a scratch install of 1803.... I do have other thing to do with my life....

Sorry to hear that, hopefully you will get things better straightened out when you have the time. Appreciate the heads up.

By random chance and I don't know how I did it got the 1881 both the correct driver and software installed but again Vulkan crashes so I am restoring back to 1709 where everything was working fine with the latest driver but the 1871 software. There is something in the new Vulkan exts that is not right or incompatible... I should send a bill to AMD for the amount of time I have wasted........

that's on you. not amds responsibility to support hp products even if it contains amd. just the way it is.

Thats your opinion not mine. It getting so companies don't think they have to support what they make. Just take the money and run. I guess that's why Intel and Nvidia are sales leaders they actually support their products even if its in an HP or Asus laptop. We as consumers are being trained to accept substandard quality and support as the norm. And it sounds like you accept that standard as the new norm. Have a good evening.....

I can say the tdp limit is too low because its hitting 1033mhz max on Far Cry 5 & the game isn't running very good at 1080p... I wish it were more optimized.

its not new and you have been around long enough that you should know that. nvidia hasn't and isn't always like that either. which is why there are sites like laptopvideo2go hosting modded infs/drivers.

Does anyone else have graphical corruption upon resuming sleep or when switching to battery etc? its like flashing corruption

I think its a driver issue with 18.8.1 because the only way to fix it is to use CRU Restart64.exe if anyone needs it here it is.

Since moving to 18.51 it has been smooth sailing. On an older driver version I had been using, I had some resume from sleep issues such as not being able to adjust brightness and other wonkiness. I've never had any significant graphical issues though.

I wish this APU had dedicated GDDR5 because it really performs terrible at 1080p on Far Cry 5 & 720p gets on my nerves.

Does anyone else think this Vega 8 is pretty weak? What games do you play that run fine at 1080p?

its not meant for high end gaming, its a mobile apu. try 16x9 and older/lighter games

I found a little extra performance, maybe its placebo but by selecting vega 11 graphics in the driver manually in device manager on 18.8.1 & installing 18.8.1 CCC2 you get ReLive that works...

Placebo or not that's pretty neat. Maybe you'd see some improvement in a benchmark like Cinebench R15 OpenGL or 3DMark Cloudgate.

Should be pretty comparable to the reviews out there.

I actually just installed the Vega 11 driver as well 18.8.1. Everything worked, but no magical vega 11 performance. Still works fine though. I'm going to try and install another vega driver for a desktop card and see if I can fool any OC utilities to work.

Edit: Just installed the Vega 64 driver for kicks. Ran perfectly, but of course no extra performance. Couldn't fool any software either (MSI afterburner, Ryzen Master, overdrive)

Nice, me too, I settled on the 18.8.1 vega 8 driver & I found out why it was performing so terribly on Far Cry 5, is because it had Committed over 10GB of ram in pagefile, so I'm out of RAM, I need more RAM to play higher end games, I totally forgot about 8GB not being enough RAM.

So looking, it looks like its about $59 for a 8GB stick of SAMSUNG 2400mhz, making it 12GB laptop, which would help out a lot.

PS - I emailed AMD directly to see if they can release a BIOS update that works since F17 gives "Unknown Command" error as I have F16 BIOS on HP Envy X360. I asked for them to give me the Advanced BIOS Menu key button combo & also to increase the TDP & set a max temp to 84C.

Yeah I'd imagine 8gb of DDR4 could be a limitation for some games considering the GPU and CPU are fighting for the same resources.

Something of note: I see the stock DDR4 runs at 2400mhz 17-17-17-39

While you can't get anything higher than 2400mhz to work here, I'd imagine you could buy some DDR4 that had tighter timings. Best I've found is 14-14-14 by HyperX. Maybe its something you could find on sale as the linked price is quite high. You could always sell the included 2x4 kit to help justify the upgrade.

Not really sure those timings would really be worth it though.

Hopefully AMD can help you out there. Can't say I'll get my hopes up though.

Yeah. I was wondering which games do you play? I find this CPU & GPU are better suited for productivity & encoding than gaming, am I right? Maybe I need 16GB so I can game it up properly. Its a been a long time since I ran out of RAM, and didn't have the money to upgrade either.

Wanna join my thread over on overclock.net & start a Ryzen discussion of some sort? https://www.overclock.net/forum/10-...club-2400g-2200g-2700u-2500u-2300u-2200u.html

I'm testing 18.8.2 out, is there any official support for the Vega 8 graphics? Also I have some DDR4-3200 16GB in, want me to test it out guys?!?

I'm down. Kinda have my doubts that DDR4 will run at those speeds, but I'll cross my fingers. I'd be curious of the timings if nothing else.

Glad your thread got some traction. I'm an old man when it comes to change so wasn't too keen on creating an account there.

Best of luck, keep us posted

DDR4-3200 doesn't work at all, gave error code 3 long 5 short, and finally got into windows & CPU defaulted to 300mhz and was stuck at 300mhz so its a no go on the Gskill Ripjaws ddr4-3200. So best to stick with SAMSUNG 16gb DDR4=2400 module, making it 20GB total. Also 18.8.2 doesn't work, only 18.8.1 max as of yet

bios up to date? is there 3200 on the qvl, did you look?

BIOS is fully up to date, runninig F17 bios which is the latest. I didn't check but it was running at 1200mhz (CPUZ means ddr4-2400) it would of been 1600mhz if it would of run at 3200mhz also the CPU defaulted to 400mhz like x4 multi safe mode or something. Although at first wouldn't even boot with 3 long 5 short CAPS LOCK LED Code being reported said to be CPU not detected from some other forum.

I don't know of any QVL from HP?

nope forgot this is laptop. 2666 is fastest according to crucial.

One had a M2 SSD Installed, Another Had the 1TB HDD, Mine had the 1TB HDD. They are the same except the I/O as far as I am aware. Plus Crucials website didn't seem to the list the bq100.

I just looked mine up via the Serial Number from AIDA64 & its a

HP ENVY x360 - 15m-bq121dx

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/envy-x360-15m-bq121dx

I see the 2666 ram as compatible but its going to only run at 1200mhz, via CPUz it said on the 3200mhz ram still just 1200mhz, major bummer.

Unless it could somehow boost to 2666 but I doubt it, its very unlikely anything more than 2400mhz is gonna run at above 2400mhz.
