Fallout 76

Imagine the Call of Duty populations with PS4/Xbox crossplay....

The "Big 2" should've incorporated crossplay at the onset of this console generation.

Personally, I think PC should stay to itself; as should Nintendo.

But PS4/Xbox crossplay on multi-platform titles just makes way too much sense....

As long as they don't gimp PC controls or pull a destiny 2 autoaim with controllers.

Then again, I'll never play this. Already tried Conan, rust, ark, etc and I just don't play enough to keep up with the always online human waste bags out there.

Hmm....

The Fallout 76 purchase page also bears only a generic "PC game" logo, with no mention of Steam. And today, Bethesda confirmed that neither the beta nor the full game will be released on the platform.

"The PC version of Fallout 76, for both the B.E.T.A. and the launch, will be available only via Bethesda.net, not on Steam," a Bethesda rep said in an email.

Yeah I'm going to have to pass then

Not seeing the logic here. I think they will lose more money in sales from not being on Steam than they will by giving 30% to Valve.

Is it 30%? That's nuts.

I don't have a problem with the download being available outside Steam, I just don't want another locked in Launcher. I haven't played a Blizzard game in forever, but this is how Battle.net worked in the 90s :) You just opened up the shortcut to the EXE, and nothing else had to load on the backend. Imagine how nice that would be if that was the only game you were playing at the time.

What about competition is good/monopolies are bad everyone wants in the hardware sector? In theory they could lower prices of games, and still make more since they don't owe Valve a cut. (not that I think it's going to happen)

maybe it will force valve to actually start releasing games again if all big publishers leave steam.

This is one of the few potential upsides but really:

We all knew this was coming. Everyone major publisher is going to take a crack at their own client. This is getting nutty.

EDIT ADD:

Let's face it. This game is a mixed bag anyways.

Who is going to really want to install *another client* just for this pretty obvioius mediocrity and cash grab forthcoming?

Bethesda ought to save this for a big gun like an Elder Scrolls VI or a true Fallout 5.

At the very least I could see them doing what Ubisoft does: You can still buy their games on Steam but at that point you're strapped to two clients instead of just one. (Steam and Uplay)

Doing "just this" as the only sales platform on the PC for this title is highly dubious.

If Bethesda wants this to work they either need to sell their game a bit cheaper and/or at least have a non-intrusive platform to run off of. I despise the EA platform so i haven't touched any of their games in years.

All this does is drive me further away from companies. Not saying I won't buy from companies that do this but when you add it to other things it adds up.
The Fallout series is a favorite of mine, all of it not just Bethesda's part. I've been on the fence about 76 and the more little things like this come up the more likely I am to not buy it.

I don't think this will hurt them. While I think there are plenty of people who will not buy because of this in the end I don't think the masses will care.

another gaming client is annoying but not the end of the world...if they can deliver a stable platform where the games install and work correctly it's not a big deal...just uninstall it after finishing the game...either way this new multiplayer Fallout game is not something I'm anxiously awaiting...looks decent but I'd rather have another full single player Fallout game...this looks like a DLC or add-on to Fallout 4

Better they try it with a game you don't care about so it works right when the game you want comes out. I can see a new platform like this crash when a huge game like the next elder scrolls game launches and everyone wants in at the same time. I have been using the (beta)client for a year now for the quake champions beta and have no issues with it, wroks as good as all the others.

Most people here don't realize that prior to 2004 PC games existed.
I've had Steam since 2003, but that's beside the point. This is the tipping point. I absolutely refuse to install another flipping game client on my PC at this point. I have 7 right now: Steam, UPlay, Origin, Battle.net, Microsoft Store, GOG Galaxy and Rockstar Social Club.

Gotta say, I am not too happy about this having pre-ordered for the Prime discount and the beta. Didn't realize this was the case when I did.

I'll stick it out, though. I bought the last two Fallout games with the Collector's Editions, so it's unlikely I would skip this one entirely.

Remove Galaxy, then you have room for one more :whistle:

Do you use the same account for your cell phone, for your bank account, for your utility bills, for your forums, for your amazon, for your credit card, for your google...should I go on...?

I don't have to have those installed on my computer, taking up space.

I don't equate the purchase of a game to the level of importance of those accounts. Makes sense to have them separate. It is more like a grocery store. If all the different brands decided to pull their products out of our of local stores and only sell their products in their brand stores and you would have separate id cards for each store it would be annoying and stupid. I'd have to go to the Budweiser store, then go to the Smirnoff store, then go over to General Mills and then to one of the drug companies to get some tranqs to calm down because I still have 50 items on my. I'm fine with a handful of services, too many and someone is loosing my business.

Ehhh I don't know if comparing website logins is the same as having 4+ different brands of DRM Launchers on your computer. I remember I was annoyed when Steam was created and I had to get it to continue playing Counter-Strike. Every time I use my pots and pans I bought from Amazon, I don't have to log in to Amazon :D

I don't find another client that much of an annoyance. I think that I'm must wary of the game itself, but we'll see when reviews come out. With that said I love the fallout universe and I'm hoping that it is a good game.

Sadly man, this is the way the industry is going....

Yes, it can be a hassle. But 90% of the time you can set the launcher to open/close out automatically as the game launches via settings fairly easily. (so you never really see it)

- Battle.net definitely has this, and I know you can do it via Origin but only after installing an older version of the Origin launcher once you're games are installed / up n' running etc.

We'll just have to wait and see how obtrusive this Bethesda client really is....

That is the thing that I think that most users who prefer steam like are having easy access to their games in one central place. I became a pc player after steam became the dominant platform and so to me I have always liked having my games there. After years of pc gaming and having new clients come out I can see why people are annoyed.

it's not like the gaming client will remain running after exiting the game...just think of it as an extension of the game itself...

People must have been living under a lava rock not to see this coming. When Bethesda released their launcher I knew damn well they were creating their own platform to sell games from. I'd also dare say Creation Club will be melded into Fallout 76 when the green light is given for mods to be implemented into the game. Just as it is with Fallout 4.

Speaking of modding Fallout 76, I know it is too early to tell - and I could be entirely wrong - but I'd gander to guess that if someone joins a group of players with particular mod(s) they'll possibly would have to download the same mods in order to play with the group.

It is a clumsy way of doing things but yeah. The quality of the game matters more to me than anything. I find myself starved for a good story in a game these days.

There is nothing wrong with Creation Club the mod creators should get paid for their Mods, after all they put their free time into it so you can play it, maybe the Mod creators should make a Beta version for free to use but not update it and if you want the full mod & updates you pay for it problem solved. I am glad that fallout 76 will be online with the Creation Club at lease we will not get all the porn nude mods like on Nexus that have ruin the game so far for fallout 4 and Skyrim.

I will say that having a lunch nuke key card in the hands of a child brat player online will anger the other players when he nuke's them just for fun!. Bethesda should have left that out IMO.

Who cares really? I've been a Steam user since day 1 and it's become a mess of a platform. I really can't stand it. 95% of the junk on there are crap indie games that nobody cares about. I kind of like having my games segmented via the launcher that is appropriate. Steam has become irrelevant.

Of course it will. How else will you keep the game up to date?

I usually don't keep any gaming client open after exiting the game (and I also disable it auto-starting with Windows)...my games update when I open the client up again

Yes, this was obvious from the start. Personally I don't mind at all.

The problem with "paid mods" is that at that point, they can't really be treated like mods, but rather outsourced DLC. Mods generally have a ton of compatibility issues with each other, and when you insert money into that situation it gets sticky.

I don't have an inherent problem with additional DLC, but not at the expense of fan-made free mods.
