Samsung unveiled their latest Android tablet this week, the Galaxy Tab S4. The company believes it can offer a genuine PC-like experience thanks to DeX, which allows users to switch to a desktop interface. A large monitor can be connected with a USB-C to HDMI cable for increased productivity.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC (four Kryo 385 Gold cores, four Kryo 385 Silver cores, Adreno 540 iGPU, 64-bit LPDDR4X memory, etc.) that is equipped with 4 GB of RAM, and 64 or 256 GB of NAND flash storage (expandable by 400 GB using a microSDXC card). The tablet has a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2560×1600 resolution, which is a bit larger than the monitor used on the Galaxy Tab S3.

Interesting - haven't seen much activity from Android tablets in a while. I have a Kindle Fire on my desk I bought cheap around Thanksgiving. I have only used it a handful of times - my phone is with me and gets used a lot. The tablet, not as much.
Curious how this one sells and gets used. I used to see a lot of business folks using iPads instead of a laptop (and really struggling for some of the stuff they were doing!) I haven't noticed as many tablets lately.

Wonder why they decided not to use Chromium on it. Seems like the perfect hardware to run it. Anyways, I'm on the lookout for a tablet running Chromium. Acer dropped something, it turns out that it was smelly, brown and a turd...so my hunt continues.

cant beleive they went with only 4 gigs of ram ... should have had at least 6. and then to further add insult to injury they use the 835 instead of the 845. this could have been something, but instead its just meh. maybe their marketing team has decided they will release a samsung tab s4 pro that has the 845 and 8 gigs of ram . and then it will be 1000+ bucks. they will release it 4 months from now to ensure those who purchase this feel like idiots.

I'll be interested to see how this stacks up against the Surface Go. Picked up one of those on Thursday and the thing is amazing for a 10" Windows tablet. I was concerned about performance ( I have the 8 GB / 128 GB version) and I've seen some reviews say it's a problem but I've not seen it. It can chug a bit when it's being taxed with things like multiple large file copies and such but for normal operation it's been snappy. For whatever reason however, Chrome doesn't run very smoothly where Edge flies.

Surprises me, too...especially since this is their "S" designation top of the line tablet model. The specs feel like a cheaper Tab A with a tiny bit of spit and polish applied.

The 16:10 luddites here will have a field day with this.
Just kidding, it's a great productivity asect ratio which will be missed.

Sadly, I recently bought my wife an 10" Android tablet with LTE.
Or maybe not -- she loves it, even if it isn't the hottest tablet on the planet.

My guess at the reason? Google and Microsoft are not friends.

Of course. I have a number of low powered Windows devices though and there's just something really odd about it on the Go. The Go is much more powerful than the Atom tablets I have and while Edge has always worked better on those as well Edge just has a lot more zip on the Go and Chrome hardly works any better than on those Atom tablets.

Just guessing hear but I think Microsoft optimized Edge for the Go hardware and Chrome just isn't.

After my experience with my Samsung Galaxy Tab S, there is no chance I would ever buy another Android tablet again.

Lower end specs compared to flagship phones, security updates, almost non-existent, and Android has become less relevant in the Tablet space in the last 4 years. Granted, I see they are using a Snapdragon 835 at least on this tablet...

I am much happier with the experience I get on my Pixelbook, I'm sure a similar experience can be had on some of the Chrome OS tablets that have been launching recently... Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem like Android for tablet devices is going anywhere.

Go ahead, you KNOW you need it bad.

I've got the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7" and with Nova Launcher it's quite simply one of the best mobile devices I've ever used, you can even resize apps to fully floating windows and drag them around the desktop.

My device flies, I've never experienced a slowdown, all animations are silky smooth and battery life is great. I can only imagine how good the S4 is.

I got DeX with my Note 8.
It's a fucking joke. Used it once, never again.
