Cox Communications Sued for in Excess of $1 Billion for Ignoring Piracy by Customers

You wouldn't sue a car maker if their brand was used in a robbery.

Sueing the cable company for what customers do on the network is like sueing the power company because someone made meth with the electricity.

This is a bullshit case and is completely going no where guaranteed.

I am not talking about kids. I am talking about 40 y/o guys who have money and don't want to deal with the risk of losing it.

If there were no RIAA suits, or potential consequences I would buy a 24TB NAS device download everything. I would even download kids movies just in case nephews visit.
I would have MARVEL marathon weekend viewing parties and have the back catalogue of every major music artist since Clarence "Frogman" Henry.
I would download every comic book and read it on my Kindle. I have no doubt that there are thousands of people just like myself who only stay out of it because of the hassle and potential risk.
So you're the guy who grabs a boatload of free stuff if it's available even if you don't need it at all?

The purpose of the extreme rewards is to restrain others from stealing music through fear.
It is probably not too far off to say that people want music for free, and they will download it for free if there is no consequence.
By getting attention grabbing headlines about grandmothers being bankrupted because grandkids downloaded Bieber they accomplish some suppression. The tactic is effective.
No I get it, but the damages don't equal the punishment. The RIAA also tries to push the copyrights way to far. Like burning your MP3s you legally paid for to a CD so you can listen to it in you car or something to that effect. They have always had insane ideas of how people can use their music.

Or just cheap and O.C.D.
I have over 1800 games in my Steam account because I buy anything less than 0.50. I figure I would drop two quarters into an Arcade cabinet just to see what it was.

Judges are people too. Meaning most of them are a stupid. And many of them can be bribed. So I wouldn't be that sure about this.

If they can get an ignoramus who has no clue how the internet works, I can see them convincing them that the provider is responsible. Even if it is as stupid as convincing a judge that the gas company is responsible for this guy gassing someone.

That's a different thing. There is no moral dilemma there, you can buy cheap stuff, that's only your own problem. I mean things like taking two dozen paper tissues in a pizza place instead of one and two. Or helping yourself to the entire roll of toilet paper in a public toilet. Where you know you shouldn't take it, but you still do, because there is no risk.

I am curious as to what people think is expensive?
Do you mind sharing your speed and Monthly cost?
No kidding. If they knew what I paid for four bonded DSL lines to my house that is 5500ft from the DLSAM, for a paltry 40mbs/4mbs, they would not be bitching about what they pay.

I get 6Mbps download for $40/mo, woo!
I could get 10Mbps with cox for the same, but I have to bundle their home services and sign a 1yr contract.
Or I could get 10Mbps with the direct radio guys, for $50/mo iirc.

Just need a smart attorney to lay down some common sense and ignoramus the judge rules in favor of common sense. We hope.

50mb down, 5mb up, 1TB cap, $85/month.
Only choice as I can't even get slow DSL.

Cable TV pricing is even worse.

Actual price is a little less as I have a small discount for bundling TV and another discount for threatening to cancel the TV service every year :D

I might possibly know a guy that knows a guy that can fix that........50 shouldnt be a thing anymore and might be preventing you from getting better discounts. Feel free to message me if you want me to take a look.

Same goes for anyone having issues
