I really need Thunderbolt for some of my audio interface stuff. Will z390 (especially the Asus z390-i motherboard which is what I'll want) have it, finally? Hard to believe we are still without Thunderbolt on these platforms...

Thanks,
M

Based on leaked specs of the z390, it should. But since leaked stuff are obviously not official, we'll never know.

Asrock has thunderbolt on itx since z270.

That's true. I forgot about that, but now I remember I read some negative reports about the quality of those boards as well as CS and that's why I decided to go with Asus ROG since they seemed to have a better reputation. I am hoping Asus will release z390-i boards with TB onboard.

So you'll wait years for something that doesn't exist because of brand loyalty or whatever third party info? Ok...

Meanwhile I have 3 portable boxes with 10GbE over TB (among other things) that works, I vote with my wallet.

You should look into the absolute horror stories of Asus customer service both here and elsewhere on the internet.

ASRock is solid. As well as many other brands. The only thing going for Asus is the branding and top dollar advertising they spend money on.

I've had more than one nightmare of service with asus. it was fucking terrifying.

I appreciate that. And I don't mean to sound like I think Asrock is low quality or less good than any other brand... As a matter of fact I just remembered: When I was building my system last fall I was waiting and waiting for the i7 8700K to come out. I really wanted Thunderbolt but the only board that became available when the chips did was the Asus one which did not have it. I was too impatient to wait for Asrock's new Coffee Lake compatible board so I just used the Asus one. I think that's actually the reason I went with the ROG Strix z270-i. OTOH that board has been flawless and the OC features have gotten me to 5.0ghz with 2 different chips so far although I'm sure Asrock is fine too. I know I did call Asus customer service once about an issue unrelated to this board and they didn't have a clue about anything. So I would hope nothing ever goes south with this board because if that phone call was any indication, Asus customer service seems pretty week.

Maybe I will just get an Asrock. Would be nice to have TB for all the audio interfacing options that are becoming available these days.

I've had nightmarish encounters with both ASRock and Asus, on both QC & CS issues. They are both crap IMHO...I refuse to touch either one with a 100,000,000 mile long pole :)

Good to know. So, that begs the question: for itx mobos what do u recommed instead?

That leaves MSI which I wouldn't touch and Gigabyte.. I trust them and Asus (but not Asus RMA service). If the Asus works, it should stay that way.

Will Asus z-390--itx have Thunderbolt 3 built in? I still haven't been able to tell from the previews.

Best to wait for the release to confirm, its all speculation at this point? I don't even know a proposed release date for the CPU.
