My son's mother called to have me pick a laptop for our son who is about to start college. He is majoring in computer science and mathematics. She said she did a search for best college laptops and the Dell XPS 13 was the one being recommended. I don't see why the Inspiron 13 7000 with the following specs wouldn't be the one to get.

  • 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8550U Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0 GHz)
    • 8GB, DDR4, 2400MHz
      • Intel® UHD Graphics 620 with shared graphic memory

      • 13.3” FHD IPS Non-Touch (1920 x 1080)

256 gig SSD and w10 home.

I talked to my son yesterday to see what he needed/wanted. Like would he be carrying it with to class, etc. He had no input, other than he wanted the 13" screen in case he might carry it with him.

Any reason why the XPS 13 would be better than this one?

Look at the Dell Latitude 7390.

Comparable specs to the XPS 13, but USB A ports, and standard 3 year warranty instead of 1.
