So I have a few hundred to drop on a new monitor and I am coming from a 24" 1200P 16:10 Benq and I want to get a 27" 1440P high refresh rate G-Sync monitor (4k is $2k and I am not willing to spend that much $) and I was looking at the Acer Predator XB271HU for $600. I currently have a 1060 6GB but I only play older games (most are from last decade but I do plan on playing GTA V) so that shouldn't be a problem (I can upgrade later if needed). I do a good mix of gaming and media consumption but I have never had a high refresh or G-Sync monitor.

Are there any other 27" 1440P high refresh rate G-Sync (Freesync is out, sorry) monitors out there that I should consider? I prefer better image quality over faster response time. I have only ever owned TN panels so I don't know what panel type I should go with. I would be willing to spend less for a TN, if the image quality isn't much different as saving some $ would be nice. I will be calibrating the monitor so out of the box color isn't important and I don't do any professional work (no photo or video editing of any kind) on it so high color accuracy isn't required (but nice to have). I want a monitor that will last me a long time (~10 years, unless the 4k high refresh rate monitors come down to ~$600 sooner). I have a Microcenter in my area (so I can check out some of these in person) but will likely go online to save on tax. I would like to buy one now but I am willing to wait a few months if there are new monitors coming out this calendar year.

The Dell S2716DGR is a 27" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync monitor, but has a fairly high quality TN panel. I used to use it as my main monitor until I got the Acer Predator X34 and don't really have any complaints - I still use it as my secondary monitor. You can often find it on sale for $400.

1060 is a good card to benefit from G-sync but I am not sure if S2716DG is a good monitor. Being a TN banel does not have to be a bad thing but Dell totally dropped the ball with those.
Bad, low gamma results in washed out image and exposed gradients banding problems. This is a problem unless You get revision 7 or newer I thin. But this monitor have HUGE topic on overclock.net with people complaining and posting problems. Imo not worth giving Dell money for what are they doing lately.

As I've said - it's not a problem with every revision, so You could still try it. But in general, Tn in 2018 is generally not enough. I would take lower hz or no gsync before skipping to TN

i dont mind TN , I like the response in gaming. Then again Ive never seen with my own two eyes an ips @ 120hz+

Just received this yesterday and couldn't be happier for the price:

I wanted g-sync orginally and higher refresh, but pulled the trigger on this for price. Glad I did.
$30 off atm with code, although I got mine for 237.32, I'd still buy for a tad higher. Pleased so far with no dead pixels and no light bleed.

IDK I wouldnt be my choice but if it looks good I suppose its a good deal. 75hz not much diff than 60

It wasn't my first choice but was still an upgrade from 60hz. Maybe not much but how much would I notice going from 75 to 120Hz? 144? forget about it! It's all too expensive for what you get these days it seems like (to me). I felt like I was taking a gamble even buying this monitor with some of the reviews I read. I just got tired of waiting for something worthwhile in my eyes to come out.

75hz is almost more different from 60hz than 75hz from 144hz. The initial juimp is biggest

Yeah 60Hz is literally right above the really painful point (for twitch gaming for me).

I would recommend 27" 1440p G-Sync. I don't have any current model recommendations, but that should be a good starting point.

So I just got the Acer Predator XB271HU today and after enabling G-Sync and 165Hz and updated video card drivers I was like:

Now to color calibrate it tomorrow...

For reference, I was on a 10 year old 1200P 60Hz TN.

I ordered it at 7AM Central yesterday morning and got it today with the free 2-day shop-runner shipping. Helped that it was $50 off at Newegg

Yeah, G-Sync and high refresh is where it's at. Glad to hear you're happy with the purchase.

Love my new Dell S2716DG. Think it's a rev09. No issues here.

1440p plus Gsync is sweeeet.

If you want the Viewsonic XG2703, be quick, they are scrapping the AUO M270 AHVA completely due to the bad quality. XG2760 will replace it with a TN-panel.

Anything but dell gsync monitors:
... Tn, bad gamma, banding... Tons of revisions and lottery

Keeping in mind typical LCD characteristics and intended use, the newer ones (rev A08 here) are really good after calibration. Having the Dell next to the IPS Predator, I returned the Predator due to the awful uneven color temperature (faint yellow "blob" in the screen). For outright image quality, yes, there are much better choices, but that goes for any of the g-sync monitors.
