21st Century Fox and Disney shareholders have voted to approve the latter’s $71.3 billion buyout of major Fox assets, paving the way to a merger that should be completed in the first half of 2019. While Comcast had been in the running, Fox ultimately decided to hand over the 20th Century Fox studio, FX Networks, National Geographic Partners, and other entertainment assets to Disney.

During the discussion preceding the vote, only one shareholder — who identified himself as an economics professor at Duquesne University — protested, simply saying “I think we are overpaying for Fox.” Another asked if Disney had plans to move its headquarters outside of Burbank, Calif.

That Marvel money is gonna allow disney to monopolize the whole industry.

next they're gonna swallow netflix and nbc universal

They would have to buy Comcast to get NBC and that is never going to happen. Comcast is going to utterly despise Disney after this is all said and done. As for Netflix, I doubt it. Disney will own a big chunk of Hulu and have their own streaming service next year. They'll just try to destroy Netflix once the Marvel with them expires.

In the beginning I'd hoped that Fox News would be a Republican-forward, pro-business-and-economy news organization, but they've become such a seething pile of conservative derpishness that I'm happy to see if Mickey Mouse can turn their ship around.

If CNN was bought out by Disney that wouldn't work, though. For CNN, I'm hoping that Dr. Frankenstein, who I imagine is hidden in the basement of the Time Warner Center, succeeds in creating his monster by using the brain of Walter Cronkite. And then occasionally during broadcasts, when three 'news anchors' (lol) are sitting around on a sofa preening each other and talking shit about celebrity videos, the lights would go out and there'd be this awful ripping and snorting sound. And when the broadcast returned there'd be three dead 'news anchors', torn limb from limb, and then you'd hear the sounds of the camera crews running and screaming in the background.

It won't happen, but I can dream.

R.I.P. all movies. Remember the deal and what happened to star wars.

I think most marvel movies being back under Marvel should be just fine. They have a pretty good track record with them. As for other movies... just remember that most of Kevin Smith's movies were "Disney" movies.

Remember how shitty the last three Star Wars movies were when Fox still owned them? Remember how virtually all Fox owned super hero movies blew goats?

Fox never owned Star Wars. The only thing they own is distribution rights for the original, non-Special Edition, trilogy.

Reunited Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Vs. Capcom games with X-Men again. Woot!

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 rereleased for new consoles...\swoon

Fox News was not part of the deal, nor is Fox Sports, Fox Business or local Fox affiliates.

Good bye antitrust regulations.

It passed through anti-trust because Disney still has competition and the deal did not include currently competing TV studios as mentioned above.

Not zombies. Not alien overlords. Not killer AI.

It will be Disney that destroys the world.

Maybe a proper Fantastic Four finally? I stilled loved Michael Chiklis as The Thing. I thought that was spot on casting for Ben Grimm. The movies were just ok. The last one still missed the mark and I appreciated emo Dr. Doom as much as I appreciated emo Vader in the last couple Star Wars films.

I really just want to see the Hulk vs The Thing. There was usually some hilarious banter and rivalry going on between those two throughout many decades of comics.

If you think companies are either left or right, there's some estate on Capitol Hill i'd like to sell you.

They are whichever side of politics that'll make the most money (sometimes quickly, sometimes long-term).
I consider Neo-cons left. The far Left has gone hyper-authoritarian. They are bringing in their agenda through a symbiosis with corporations and government. They allow formation of oligopolies and monopolies, in return the corporations allow their firms to be agents of social engineering. All of wallstreet, that owns all the politicians, want these non-competitive oligopoly situations. The Far Left doesn't want competition because the companies that do this stuff can only survive if they are an oligopoly or monopoly. Even then they still fail. Get Woke Go Broke is in the process of killing Marvel. It's killed Star Wars. But Disney owns all the alternatives, so they don't have to care. They'll just rotate up another property.

It's like 50% of all posts in FPN find some way to go political. Companies want to make more money. Buying out Fox movies allows Disney to make more money there is nothing else going on here.

I for one like the Marvel movies and having X-Men in the same fold is great. Uncanny X-Men was always one of my favorites as a kid.

They'll keep merging until we're down to just 10 mega corporations that will take over the planet when the nations fall!

Maybe now we can get X-Men mixed in with the rest of the MCU, and I guess Fantastic Four as well. Disney though, they grow too powerful...
