Alita: Battle Angel Official Trailer

Ok so we all know that hollywood can't translate video games or Anime into Live action for shit and that gives this about a 99.999999999999999999999999999% chance that it will also be absolute and utter shit and piss off every single person who grew up with the manga/anime in the 90's. That said..the trailer doesn't actually look bad and at the very least manages to not instantly trigger the "Fuck you hollywood for shitting on another IP" reflex. So I'll wait and see if it is worth watching but won't be holding my breath or be surprised when it turns out it is shit.

even the Japanese themselves can't do it, and their efforts thus far quite consigned to the B-segment ( B if judged by Hollywood standards). And there are lots of live action adaptations. Lots! ( but don;t get wide distribution and marketing in the US)

Never been into the whole anime/ manga thing but I do think this looks pretty cool. I wont be going to the theater to see it but will check it out at my home theater for sure.

Another SJW movie being shoved down our throats with a marry sue character. Right that is what we are supposed to complain about since the main character is a female that happens to know how to fight? Am I internettting correctly?

Only if you are semi retarded and unaware that this character and story predates the current SJW culture war by 3 decades.

The 90's called and said you're an idiot, and that you should go look up the source material.

Only need to be semiretarded? Sounds right for half the people that normally bitch about it.

How about white washing as everyone in the movie is white and not Asian? So we pass on that and just accept the movie?

It looks like a fun movie. The CGI and plot and the trailer all make it look worthy of watching.

All the characters look perfectly acceptable.

BUT HER EYES and they way they set in her FACE?!? I can put up with just about anything and I can probably put up with this but her EYES ruin the main character's entire aesthetic.

1) If those eyes are supposed to be anime style or appealing, they ARE NOT.
2) If those eyes are supposed to be indicative of what she is... a byproduct of what she is then it makes slightly more sense. But they are so grotesque it makes the movie hard to watch when it shouldn't be.

Ghost in the Shell and I, Robot manage to make the robot/android look creepy different but in an endearing way not sunken drug den "I havn't slept in a month" demonic like this girl. Yikes.

Those eyes... it's just gross, please kill it.

LOL Hollywood just doesn't get it......I used to actually buy the translated Alita comics in the 90s the comic is so much better usually. Drawing the eyes are certain way in Japan is art form basically and usually omitting the nose which translates back to Mickey Mouse actually Osamu Tezuka look was inspired by Mikey mouse in the 60s and created a comic called Astro Boy which basically set the standard for how Japanese eyes were draw with Japanese manga or comic books.

You may think you are being edgy by mocking a certain category of persons you have disagreed with in previous discussions, but all you are achieving is making yourself look like a mental midget.

Battle Angel Alita is originally set in the USA, there is nothing to white wash. Just because the original medium of the story was anime or manga does not automatically mean that either the characters or setting are Asian, and I don't recall any of the main characters in BAA exhibiting any distinctive Asian characteristics (happy to be corrected). It's a completely different proposition to GITS for instance.

I like the look of this
Definitely a MASSIVE improvement on the eyes since the original teaser
I'll be going to it

This could be great, if done properly with practical effects.

CGI well, still looks like cgi to me. I feel like I'm watching a blizzard cutscene and not an actual movie.

On a scale of 1-10 this cgi is a 3 at best. Some really cheap looking effects here. For example the whatever that thing is at 0:57, compare that to Robocop from 1987, I think that looked 10 times better.

Practical effects or GTFO.

I'm well aware of that, doesn't change that the character in this movie trailer looks horrific. Might as well do the tiny mouth that gets huge when characters scream as well(and it probably wouldn't look as bad). I've seen tons of anime, read tons of manga, stuff going as far back as the 60s. There are some things that work in animation that just don't work when trying to make the characters look human at the same time. The Aeon Flux movie would have been even worse if they tried to use kais photosoap(seriously, that's what this eye thing looks like) so make the actors match the original art style from the cartoon shorts.

My mocking has nothing to do with people that I disagree with in general but the general state of where people are as a whole.

Source material doesn't matter when it comes to people wanting to jump onto a hate bandwagon. If you aren't offended by something (or everything) in this day and age you are made out to the be the weirdo.

Case in point, Iron Fist in the comics is a white guy from the USA. However in the minds of people, if he is a kung fu master he must have been Asian from some country where you would expect a kung fu master to come from. A white boy from NYC can't be selected to be some master. People bitched about the white washing of that series. Or how the Marvel movies turned a white character (Nick Fury) black for no reason... even though the comics actually turned him black and copied the look of Samuel L Jackson before he was even given the role. Source material didn't matter as people could just bitch about casting choices.

There are also a good number of people that try to claim that everything is a SJW agenda. Doesn't matter if it is or isn't. As soon as you have a certain type of character you get dropped into that category. If something like Beverly Hills Cop was released today there would be a vocal group saying that the only reason there is a black lead is because they are trying to make people happy. Just how if a woman is cast as aa lead it seems that is only because of some SJW agenda and not because the person wanted a female lead.

Meh ... the eyes don’t really bother me. The scientists eyes from the fourth kind were much worse

I still can't get past the CGI humanoids. They are getting close but it still is too fake. Guess thats why I am in the minority and never could enjoy Avatar. Couldn't quite get past the unnatural looking "live" cgi actors. Movie looks awesome otherwise though.

Where did James Cameron have time to do this movie? His avatar movies already been delayed several times, this why?
The movie is directed by Robert Rodriguez, which is the only reason I'm considering seeing this despite the horrible looking CGI. James Cameron is simply the executive producer on this one, but he has had the script for at least 20 years. The website for the film was originally registered in 2000 and Cameron first confirmed he was working on a script in 2003.

No, not really. He's been working on this since like 2003. He brought Rodriguez on specifically because he didn't have the scheduling ability to get it finished. The avatar movies have been delayed most by his non-movie side projects (like going to the bottom of the ocean, deeper than anyone has ever gone before) and sorting out the technologies needed for the sequels. As an example, they apparently spend 18 months just figuring/perfecting how to do underwater motion capture. His production company is basically making new technology for just about everything from cameras to projection as well (glasses free 3d, etc).

That is generally how I feel about cgi characters. I don't know the source material but from the trailer I'm guessing she should look off. 99% of the time that cgi look annoys me but it feels fitting in this setting.

FAIRLY certain poster is being sarcastic/facetious, largely due to the rabid knee-jerk reactionism passing for social (bowel) movement these days.

TBO, eyes should be normal like the rest of the characters because in the anime/manga they're the same size to everyone else.
And people should at least know the source material before complaining about white washing or JSW.

Not helping fight that pedophilia thing you got going right now Hollywood.
??? I miss something ???

i don't know bro looks pretty bad ass. i'm personally not into manga/anime so i wouldn't know the difference. but seein that freakin robert rodriguez and james cameron teamed up on this one, it's got to at least be half decent.? so, yeah i'll be doin imax 3D for this one. (am i the only fan left? realD sux)

I prefer Dolby Theaters; Laser Projection system and AMAZING sound! No more washed out screen and muddy sound!

Sadly, there are none of those within practical driving distance of me. Closest one is 3 hours away. IMAX is the only thing I have for now, and I don't know of any plans to bring modern theaters to this market.

This movie was supposed to be made and released years before Avatar. He never found time to actually make it, so he gave it to Rodriguez

Yes I was. Followed it up with a post above calling out all the damn people that quickly jump to waning to claim SJW, or white washing or some other random BS for every damn thing that is made today.
