Hey,

So far I came up with

I5-8400
16GB
500GB SSD
650W PSU

Basically I am trying to avoid the vga, but it must support 3 displays. Not sure what MB to get and what are the downsides for not having a dedicated card. This is not a gaming system. The mATX with wifi is preferred.

Motherboards generally do not have more than 2 HDMI/Display ports, you will have to hook up the 3rd one via USB or get a dedicated card. On cards too, 3 displayports would be rare, might wanna look at card with 3 ports total, combination is HDMI and DP and get HDMI to Displayport convertors. Anything with 3 DPs will be expensive

Consider i3-8350k instead, most application with benefit more from the higher clock speed rather than the 2 extra cores, not sure how many application actually use 6 cores..

Just found this MB that supports 3 displays. Seems like a way to go, right? I would get the 8350k, but its not available on Microcenter. The cpu/mb/ssd combo deal is decent there.

Are you gaming on this?

There are lots of cards that support 3 monitors.
But if you're trying to get all the ports the same, you're probably looking at triple DVI. The cheapest I can find are GTX960 cards for about $210.
Either that or go with multiple cheaper video cards, with an aggregate price that'll be about the same.

Definitely not gaming. I'm not trying to get all the ports the same, just would be more convenient to have them.

So if I am getting the MB with 3 ports, there is no reason to spend money on vga?

No need unless your gaming so yeah, you're set.

There are a lot more than there used to be. In addition to your find, both Gigabyte and Asus make models with 2HDMI and 2 DP, respectively.

I wouldn't daisy-chain a single DP output to triple screens because that limits you to 1440@60 in the future. Dual-DP gives you dual-4k@60 support. It's also a pain-in-the-ass to shop around for DP monitors that actually support daisy-chain.
