Formula Boinc 2018 Strategy

IIRC, the easiest way to accomplish this is to copy the entire boinc install over to another computer. Using a different boinc install would allow the computer to run the trans WUs while the main BOINC install can still be free to accept new work/upload completed work. You'll just need to turn off networking for the other boinc install with the trans WUs. This way all the references on the host would be there.

Today's stat.

I'm running below my max output due to lack of VB tasks. Are you guys running camb_legacy? I run zero of this.

This is the batch file script to force it to trigger updates.... Copy and paste it into new file and save it as .bat and run it. If you are using x86 you will need to change the boinc path. Depending on the project you also have to change that url (some might have /update/ or something too depending on the project). To change the timing, that is the number right near the end. I have it set for 30 seconds. This is also for Windows. Skillz or someone else might have the code for a Linux version too.

I'm up to 16 tasks now. Maybe it will get all the way up to 24...

Code:
for /l %%x in (1, 1, 10000) do (echo %%x
"c:\Program Files\Boinc\boinccmd.exe" --project http://www.cosmologyathome.org update
ping 127.0.0.1 -n 30 > nul)

I remember early this morning there were 30,000+ tasks in progress for camb_boinc2docker. Now only 28,600. No new tasks being generated and we are picking aborted or overdue tasks only.

Cannot offer any advise on that end. I use Hyper-V for a lot of things up here and it and VB do not play well together.

I can't hold on to the bunker any longer for fear of not having enough upload bandwidth to report all the tasks to the server before the sprint ends.

So it's decision time again. I realise that many of you may be having a Sunday morning lie in, so if I get it wrong, on my head be it.

The situation is:
  • We are 1.5 Mil behind XS whereas TAAT are 600K behind SUSA and holding their own for the last few hours.
  • SUSA has screwed us again by Bryan (aka nightmare) coming across to XS and dropping almost 1 Mil for them before moving back to SUSA yesterday. This has firmly taken catching XS out of our reach.
  • It will serve us well if we can discourage them from using this tactic next time by supporting TAAT.
  • As pututu pointed out, it's unlikely that XSUSA are holding enough of a bunker to support another team in pushing us out of second place. I'm holding almost half the 'in progress' boinc2docker tasks and, if they're bunkering legacy, they will be slow to validate.
  • I can mitigate our risk by releasing throughout the afternoon and therefore am able to change back if I'm not making a difference or things look dodgy. The upload speed will constrain this anyway.
In summary, I'm switching to TAAT in the distant hope of discouraging SUSA from meddling in our league 2 races. As a bonus, it might be a lot of fun.

I fully support this. We won't pull out of second, but if we do this a few times this year, maybe they will cut the shit.

I'm not getting any camb_boinc2docker tasks since an hour ago.

I havent got any in days. Now my BOINC client is telling me I have all the tasks it wants, even though I am set for 10 days of work. I have a total of 8...

Fun times :)

edit: I am going to head back to ODLK1 and finish up my 1 million there.

I"m done here too. Sayonara to cosmo for now. I'll revisit this project again for my 1M target.

Since I started crunching on Wed night, I racked up 246K credits.

I think the project may be conducting one of it's periodic validation sweeps. It broke the work generator last time that happened. No idea where all those tasks for validation came from

It would be cool if everyone could keep using the script to poll for work over the last few hours. We wouldn't want XSUSA to get all the tasks if work starts being generated again.

Setting the preferred fallback project to priority 0 should kill two birds with one stone.

Totally support this too.

From the holistic bang-for-the-buck purview, i feel this maneuver is probably about the only effective tactic to prevent SUSA members from pulling these types of shens.

When we get a GPU project and i am not limited by PCIe lanes... i'll be keeping my eye on TAaT's situation. From the AN sprint, it seems they have more GPU firepower than SUSA.

Edit1: In fact, as i think about it: I'd love to boost 3rd place past SUSA. It would really ruffle their feathers if say... the Czech Nat'l Team took 3rd on something. LOL

Edit2: I think we should make it a thing to consistently boost as many teams as possible past SETI/XS whenever we can.

I will be watching them from now on as well. When we are way up on a project I will see about swapping over for the remainder of a sprint.

camb_legacy validation seems to be doing something. Maybe there is a chance for TAAT to take over. For those who has lot of camb_legacy tasks awaiting validation, just switch over to TAAT and do nothing. I think once the tasks are validated, the points get over to TAAT. Is that correct? Just remember to update the project to make sure your name is in TAAT's team. I've zero camb_legacy for validation, so I can't help here.

76K of tasks awaiting validation. At least it is shrinking...

I think you're spot on mate.

104 tasks pending for Legacy. I'll switch over to TaaT.

I am totally gonna laugh my ass off if TaaT keeps 2nd place.

They're in with a shout. I'm still uploading …. it's taking forever.

State: All (15796) · In progress (7362) · Validation pending (3179) · Validation inconclusive (0) · Valid (4865) · Invalid (10) · Error (380)

If only I had the right work on the right rigs, we'd be in great shape.
Hmm, I don't see your name there: http://www.cosmologyathome.org/team_display.php?teamid=73

It should be updating quite fast, IIRC.

It works right away but took about an hour to show when I switched.

I don't have that many waiting for validation, but I switched over to help TaaT.

Let's hope that XS don't switch over to SUSA in the next 6 hours or so.

As of 9:25am PST. Keeping tab of the validation numbers. This is the key.

I'm almost certain they will when they see us switching over. Unless you're getting work or have a significant amount to validate it may be best to stay on [H]. A bit of camouflage to mask our movements won't hurt :D

Just pulled down 100 legacy tasks to sit on.

If these are fresh tasks you may struggle to finish them during the sprint. Maybe run them with 50% CPU set in the boinc preferences, assuming you have HT on the cpu that is.

I don't want to finish them. I don't want XS to get them.
