why do people keep saying it's OK because it was from 10 years ago??...he was 41 years old at the time...he was not a teenager or kid at the time...he was an adult...of course he should be fired...he's representing a company- Disney...his movie career is probably over with now

This. A lot of people here are acting like he was just making edgy jokes, which some of it was, but at one point, he talked about viewing a video with "pubescent" children touching themselves and said he came all over his own face watching it, joking that pedophiles probably got a massive release with that video. Maybe there was a different context to what he said, but people are comparing his words to a rape joke or Trump's, "if you're rich, women let you do anything... Grab them by the pussy (laughter)"

He basically admitted to watching what was basically child porn and getting off to it. That could make working for Disney a bit difficult.

What, people cant change if they're adults? Not to say hes really changed but out of the few tweets I saw the only one really suspect to me was the one about kids touching his special place. On the surface without any context, that one is umm like wtf.

Honestly, this seems like a whole lot of nothing made into something all because one w/e winger disagrees with someones opinion but instead of just disagreeing they went on a witch hunt.
 
Man I wonder if not having a social media history makes a person a risky hire or labeled "unsocial" in this day and age.

Again, this is different than making a rape joke. I mean, did he actually jerk off to a video with underage girls touching themselves?

Given the sheer quantity of abhorrent pedophilia (and other disgusting shit) posts he has made, I don't buy for a second that he was joking on all of them. He could be the Richard Pryor of pedophile type jokes and it would take him a hundred stand up shows to amass the quantity of shit he deleted. It all wasn't ten years ago either, far from it. I would say fuck him, but everyone here is too old for him.

I find it funny how we as a culture, cast down people who make off color & frankly disgusting jokes about certain people and age groups. But we put people & Groups of certain religions that are ancient and have no place being in modern society or any type of civilized culture on a pedestal.

Crazy world we are living in.

If you read Tweets by some of his...supporters, whether or not they say they are...like Justin Roiland (of Rick and Morty fame), you start to understand their logic. Roiland Tweeted a link to a scientific study explaining that life goes through 7-year cycles along with his comment, "I remember hearing that people change every 7 years. Both mentally and physically. I am certainly a different person now than I was 7 years ago."

Then add onto that popular articles that suddenly have appeared on places like Reddit where they say a death row inmate suffering from dementia is no longer the same person philosophically, as supported by John Locke.

Combine these two ideas and you start to see the logic behind the reasoning...but essentially it just seems to be a way of hand-waving away the facts. That these same people have said Trump (and others) can't change is of course conveniently ignored. (and yes I realize the argument is he "hasn't changed" with Trump, but Gunn has also worked on some pretty whack shit since he admitted he would "change")

Wow, how is this remotely similar? What he is clearly saying is that it doesnt make make sense to consider "date rape" as some special category, because all rape is forceful. How is that equivalent to posting a blog where you talk about how jizztastick a piece of child porn that somebody sent you was? Again, you people really seem to have trouble with context here.

Family guy has included numerous pedophile and molestation jokes in their episodes. Case in point the old guy with the Walker. The difference there is that the joke is both the obliviousness of the other characters to an obvious pedophile in their midst combined with the old man's physical inability to present much of a direct threat beyond being really creepy. He's also a character in a show.

Now, if you write a blog about how awesome you thought some child porn was, where's the joke? Couple that with other suspicious statements, and you can see where the Disney corporation might not want to be associated with a possible pedophile. Now, I do have sympathy for Gunn. He's never broken any laws that I know of, and as far as I know he hasn't said anything suspicious lately. I can see Disney firing him, but I dont think he should become persona non grata. However, he himself has pushed for an environment where people are held responsible for the things they say in the court of public opinion, so i can't feel that sorry for him.
 
Okay, I just read the video in James Gunn's blog post was not child porn, but rather a video of underage girls singing "I Touch Myself." Thjs is the video he claims he "jizzed in his face" over. This video was sent to him by Huston Huddleston, who was arrested on child porn charges about a year ago. None of this really changed my opinion on Gunn's firing. He's still creepy as hell, but maybe it was just an edgy joke phase. Too bad he doesnt believe in forgiveness for others.
 
They lost a good director over 10 year old tweets, ugh. The next Guardians movie is gonna suuuuck.

Christ. Disney's decision was dumb, but stop calling them "10 year old" tweets. I saw offensive (generally; one reason I don't consider it as big a deal is that they weren't specifically targeted) tweets dated as late as 2013. That's FIVE years, not 10. It also coincides with him getting hired for the first GotG movie, so the "I was a different person" excuse looks a little less plausible; it seems more like he realized that if he continued his unfunny, gross tweeting then he would risk losing his high-paying job.

Disney built his empire catering to the "youth" and "family" genres of entertainment. Disney today still has almost all of its focus on those same genres. I'm not surprised, in the least, that Disney would shit-can Gunn over his 10 year old tweets (pun intended) about perverse sexual activities involving minors, even if they were jokes. Way too much at stake for Disney: parents continuing to spend money on their kids for the Disney brand.

This. My guess is more damaging info is going to come out. Disney is just cutting its ties for its own image sake. They don't like to cut one of their own kind unless it gets public.

The amazing part of this story is that all of these self-proclaimed adults, some posting they're at least 40 years old, have lived this long without knowing Disney's iron fist over it's employees. Disney fires janitors and Disney Bank tellers for posting drunken photos on Facebook. This doesn't have anything to do with "SWJ" or liberals or any other bullshit anyone drudges up in to explain the "unexplainable" firing of a guy posting about pedophilia!

Also, unless Gunn is complaining about being fired are you guys just straw-manning him that he's shocked and wants a double-standard applied between his and Rosanne's demise?

Small difference in time by about 10 years. Rosanne's was recent.
It was public and they never did anything until now.
