Disney has fired James Gunn after tweets involving pedophilia and rape were uncovered on the Guardians of the Galaxy director’s twitter account. Gunn made a name for himself in his early career as a provocateur who would make outrageous movies and tell taboo jokes for shock value, but the studio deemed the offensive attitudes and statements on his feed “indefensible.”

Among the tweets that forced Disney and Marvel’s hand were: “I like when little boys touch me in my silly place.” Another: “The best thing about being raped is when you’re done being raped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being raped!’” There were others that made satirical comments about the 9/11 attack, AIDS and the Holocaust. Yet another described a monkey masturbating on a young child, and his commentary that it made him “extremely happy.”
 
As somebody said a few years ago..."They're not going to like the new rules they created". But these folks are constantly surprised when the torpedoes they launch keep circling around and hitting them...

Not sure how true it was but was watching a video about Disney requirements for the stars and how they are forced to go through background checks. I would find it hard to believe somebody would not have realized these tweets.
 
Are you aware LinkedIn had a total account breach a few years ago? That includes your username AND password in a way that can be used, and other data too.

Man, the investors better step in and get these SJW types out of Disney before they sink it. Firing a successful director for some trashy jokes that sound like something Jim Norton would say 10 years ago is a terrible idea.

I can almost promise you that the 3rd movie will absolutely stink now. Gunn was a huge part of what made Guardians of the Galaxy so damn good, clearly.

Yep. As with all such things it amounts to an email address and a nonsensical and individual password. There's no 'there' there on my behalf.

Fact is, the networking is important enough to risk compromise of...not a lot.

From the exchange I saw about the guy's response to Roseanne, he sounds EXACTLY like the type of person pushing EXACTLY this type of treatment for EXACTLY this type of transgression. Screw him. It is very regrettable about the films, though.

So, your position is that this environment just manifested itself? You think that this has not one thing to do with activism aimed at decreasing bias, which evolved into an expectation of civility, which evolved into an expectation of political correctness, which in turned turned into a societal requirement of the same, non-compliance being severely punishable, and then became a witch hunt to see who has said anything that is unpalatable to anyone...ever?

I think we should be a genuine and civil society. However, if your contention is that there isn't a gun being held to your head if you act inappropriately - especially towards certain groups of people - then I cannot agree.

Edit: this isn't an indictment of left or right, it's about interest groups losing sight of what is important.
 
first GoTG movie was amazing...2nd one was good but not great...I think Gunn used up all his creative juices for the original...the characters are what make those movies so much fun and I'm sure someone else can do the job now

Not anymore. And this will come back to destroy an entire generation. We're already seeing it. No one has ever lead a perfectly clean life. Yet you have to practically be Jesus is you don't want your future to have a potential of being destroyed by what you once said.

Social media and SJWism is going to be a cancer that kills us all. I mean, I didn't grow up with Twitter or Facebook or that, but would the actions of my 16 year old self have gotten in trouble today? Yes. And I believe most people's 16 year old selves would be in a similar situation. Young people do and say very stupid stuff, but social media captures it for all time, for everyone to see. And in a decade or so, we'll have an entire generation lost because of their own stupidity.

Yeah when I was growing up in my late 20's and into my 30's ( I'm now 49 ) my friends and I were starting to see the cracks and we used to call everyone "carebares" or "Carebear Nation" when we saw this kinda shit.

Gunn supposedly wasn't contacted about the plans for Infinity War, doesn't that mean he wasted a bunch of time writing a story for a dead character? These tweets were brought up when they brought him on for the first film and nobody cared. It sounds like a legal excuse.

Kevin Feige does a decent job of keeping things consistent no matter the creative team behind it. Don't think Guardians fans have much to worry about.

Gunn is a Roman Catholic just my family, and we go full blown dark comedy, nothing held back.
Might want to watch some George Calin, who also came from a Catholic family.
 
I don't know if its a good idea to be able to say anything without repercussions. Joke or not, someone will take it seriously. Free speech is fine and dandy, but I still side with the business right to be able to fire you for whatever reasons you agreed to in your contract. Public figures such as this guy are directly tied to Disney's bottom line, and the execu-bots don't like that to be fucked with. It's an absolute social minefield out there, I commend anyone who makes an attempt at a public life.

Again, nothing Gunn said was funny. It has to be humorous to qualify as a joke. Carlin said off color things, but either the content itself was funny or the delivery was comedic.
