Which PSU Should I Pick?

Hi,

Im picking a power supply for my new build, however I have little experience (almost none) in this segment.

My priority is mainly longevity, durability, low noise

And I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

My narrowed choice is

650 Watt EVGA SuperNOVA G2 98 Euro 10 years warranty
650 Watt EVGA SuperNOVA G3 89 Euro 10 years warranty
600 Watt Enermax Platimax D.F 118 Euro 5 years warranty

I have heard that G2 has lower noise level than G3. Not sure about Enermax.

The psu will be pared with

8700
GTX 1060 gpu (perhaps next gen when it comes out)

The seasonic above in the review has hybrid fan. The fan won't always be on. I have a 750 gold, and the fan hardly runs .

I've bought a dozen power supplies in the last year. EVGA wins my choice award. I have not bought a Seasonic, but the EVGAs are fantastic. Look good, work good, and have a 10 year warranty. They also come with a bundled test cap adapter - which is nothing more than shorting the 3rd and 4th pin on the 24 Pin connector - but it's a nice addition and EVGA is just like that - always giving nice bonuses on their products. I like EVGA as a company.

SeaSonic Prime or go home.

I got a 650 watt EVGA G3 that I hated the sound of.

Built another machine using the 850 watt SeaSonic Prime and it's silent and a dream.

If HardOCP gives it a Gold award, it's good.

Im already home. (I get what you wanted to say)

What sound???

But than again, 850? What fot, I dont have a need for that.

I'm not saying you need to get the 850 version.
I'm saying my experience with the 850 version was great, so you could probably expect similar results with whatever version you get.

The G3 sound, to me, is very off-putting. Not loud, just a frequency that irritates me. I think it's just the fan motor but I can't stand it.
Other people may not be insane like me though.

Ive heard that SeaSonic has a lot of coil whining and faulty units. But if you get more than you need, fan wont spin almost at all. Maybe that is the reason (particularly) 850 was great. Not doubting though.

Everyone's ears are different. The only way you're going to know what is offensive to you is by hearing it yourself. Much like food, our interpretations are similar but different.

Every PSU is also going to sound different based on the fan, speed it's rotating, components the sound waves are reverberating against, the fan grill, your case, your room, your ears, fuck, even the humidity.

Get a fanless PSU if you're not that concerned about noise. Problem solved.

Welcome to [H], noob.

Back on topic and quit the games or this thread gets locked.

I guess you're fucked then.

Maybe CableMod can make you a 60 meter PSU extension cable, you can pound a hole through the wall with your skull and you can put it outside somewhere where not even you will give a fuck anymore.

Nothing like a 21% voltage drop!

Even a fanless produces a noise.
What kind of noise are you talking about though, audible noise or electrical noise? Because your video card and case fans are going to make more noise than your PSU if you are listening to them that closely. Electrical noise is something that will happen and you can fix that with a good UPS probably.

I have a titanium prime unit and a focus platinum unit. Neither makes any noise approaching the case fans or any other background noise.

Stellar units, very quiet - and I am not running them in their quiet modes.

If you think these are loud, my god.

1) I am envious of your very quiet world.
2) I think you are expecting magic.

One or both apply.

3) Is nub

Or is insane. That is a thing.

I am used to being the insane one with sound related issues, since I'm sadly hyper-vigilant and hear every damn thing, everywhere.

Not exaggerating - I can hear my cat walking down the stairs while I am sitting directly next to my system which has 3 corsair ML fans, a noctua HSF and the aforementioned seasonic PSU.

Now maybe that's the hyper-vigilance and my fear of that fat bastard mauling my feet again (we hate each other), but it still indicates the PSU really can't be that loud if one can hear cats walking 20 feet away. The cat is fat, yes, but still a cat.

Can you hear NK testing nukes? Lol

I would say the lack of sleep from having hyperacusis would indeed make someone insane
