During San Diego Comic-Con, Disney announced the revival of an animated series that younger Star Wars fans grew up with a decade ago. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is set to return for a 12 episode run on Disney's direct-to-consumer streaming service. The first five seasons of the series introduced fan favorites like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padme to the series. Star Wars fans have spent the last decade begging for the creation of the final episodes to tie the story together.

Clone Wars was a piece of Star Wars that older fans might have, initially, not taken seriously because it was animated, but that wasn’t a barrier for kids. They loved the clones and identified with them. Ahsoka gave kids a character that was like them — someone their age that was experiencing life’s challenges and learning along the way. Plus, having a new episode each week really allowed us to explore what was going on with the new and legacy characters in a dynamic way, including Anakin and Obi-Wan. I think the stories left an indelible impression and, of course, George knew it would. He always knew.

Of course it is...how else is Disney supposed to make money?

How much we gonna bet it's going to be sub-par like the movies thus far?

I loved the Clone wars its so much better than rebels.

This isn't going to be sup par as they can't fuck with the story too much we all know how this ends.

The First 5 seasons were great and I also like the half of season 6 that was done before they cancelled the show.

Definitely looking forward to this.

While the series as a whole took a while to get going, the last season of Rebels had some damn good moments in it. Much better than the latest movies.

Now if only we could get them to continue with Tron Uprising.

Dude Tron Uprising was another one of my favorites that needs to come back as well.

nice!...I wonder if the new Disney streaming service is going to take over all those Netflix Marvel shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones etc)

Oh sweet, I loved the clone wars. I also loved the game based on them, was hard to find someone to play along though :/

Honey don't walk out I'm too drunk to follow
You know you won't feel this way tomorrow
Well, maybe I'm a little rough around the edges
Inside a little hollow
I get faced with some things sometimes
That are so hard to swallow
Hey hey hey!

I was born to REBEL

Both Clone Wars and Rebels we're 100x better than the tripe they're trying to pass off as Star Wars movies today. I wonder if Lucas had known how fucking badly Disney was going to ruin the franchise, if he'd have still gone through with it. Killing the Expanded Universe line was the worst thing Disney could have done.

Lucas still would have sold. He no longer cared about Star Wars and wanted to retire. If he had cared he would never have sold the company. I doubt Disney's was the first sizable offer he'd been given over the years.

The Netflix produced season was the only one I really enjoyed. Hopefully this will not disappoint

i think the backlash to the prequels was more of the reason he sold it. he will have come to the realization about the monster he created with the orignal trilogy which ever way he woulda chosen to tell the story post episode 6 he woulda been screwed with the bitching. star wars is the only franchise that has a growing fan base due to the orignal 3 films. peeps hated wookies. the fan base grew enormously by the time jarjar binks turned up, it grew even more by the time disney turned Luke into a grumpy old clown. my kids a 5yr old, 7yr old & 10yr old are disgusted way more than me about what happens to luke. for me killing of Han so early was a pisser

as for Clone wars. i only started to watch recently with my children who are i think on thier 4th run watching it and it is a much better storyline than eps 1,2 & 3

I don't blame them for killing Han. Promising to kill Han was probably the only way they got Harrison Ford to agree to be in the movie.

They are only making this to help promote their new streaming service.

I predict the show quality will suffer due to a limited budget and the quick turn around required to have it ready for the streaming service.

The streaming service won't be live until the Fall of next year. They're already far enough along to have that animation and voice work done. I'd imagine they're pretty well into production of the season already. It is also only 12 episodes long, meaning the budget goes further and it takes less time to get the season done. I doubt it will be all that budget constrained either. Since this will likely drive a lot of people to jump onto the service there is no reason for them to give it a low budget. They also need to throw a lot of money at original programming if they want to compete with Netflix and all the other streaming services out there.

Making animated shows is something Disney has done for a few years. Can they come up with a decent set of scripts is a totally different question.

Awesome. It was a solid series. Well written for an animated one. But I sure as hell won't subscribe to disney's service for it. Just like I won't subscribe to the one for Star Trek. #TakingBackTorrents.

this show made the prequels a much better experience. knowing more of what happens between ep2 and ep3 really adds a lot to the movies.

Half of Season 6? At least on Netflix, there is no season six of any kind. There is the lost missions but then that is it.

Yes sir there was 13 episodes for season 6 as part of the unfinished season. They were released as I have them on my hard drive but yes Netflix doesn't have them.

These episodes show why Ahsoka left the Jedi order.

It also why Anakin looks surprised to see her in this new trailer.

But maybe the lost missions and my reference to season 6 are the same thing.

Looking forward to this. I just hope that when the Disney/Fox deal closes that SW is brought back under the 20th Century Fox moniker.

Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

Why would you want that? It wouldn't make any difference. Fox barely had any create control when they were distributing the original trilogy.

Neat. Bring back LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales, then I'll jump for joy.

While we're dreaming, can we get a mulligan on ep 8?
You know, it’s funny to me, they call people asking for a redo “fascists, rascists, etc”...but you don’t see us calling for a remake of TFA. I wonder why that is?

I thought Clone Wars was great! Palpatine vs Maul and Opress is one of the greatest duels in Star Wars and really shows how fucking badass the Emperor really was.

Just for nostalgia sake. All the studios will be owned by Disney at that point and would be nothing for them to slap the 20th Century Fox Fanfare on it. There have been some rumblings about this in a few articles I read in some of the local LA rags,
