I am losing my Cisco gear and it is being replaced with another manufacture (long stories not really relevant) so I am looking for something that can replace my NAM. So far i have found a few companies that make these types of stand alone appliances for packet captures, Niksun (NetOmni), Riverbed (SteelCentral),Netscout, and Savvius Omnipeek. Anyone have experience with these companies products or know of others i can check out?

Your requirements are a bit vague. Is this for the entire network or are you looking for agent sensors for endpoints?

Sorry I guess I should have been a little clearer. Basically I use it for packet captures when troubleshooting issues. 99% of the time to show customers yes your traffic is passing through all these devices just fine it is your server that is causing the issue. The CISCO NAMs also do other functions I really dont use very often personally such as showing bandwidth use in the chassis, break down of total traffic by type(https, smb, etc). I am toying with getting low end servers and just racking them with the layer3 devices with wire shark and changing the monitor ports as needed. I will check out those two products as well, thank you for the suggestion.

If you are looking for traffic analysis and packet capture, Appneta may fit the bill.
