Security and Quality Rollup updates for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, and 4.7.1 for Windows 8.1, RT 8.1, and Server 2012 R2 (KB 4340558)

Gives me a code 80092004 and fails to install on Win8.1. Anyone else?

open cmd as admin
net stop wuauserv

go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete the download folder

go back to command prompt
net start wuauserv

try the update again.

^ If this doesn't do it, the tried and true sfc /scannow command often does the trick, too.

Nope, didn't fix the issue except the code is different now.

Already tried sfc and that didn't work either.

so this is a brand new as in today issue? wait a couple days for them to fix it.

Yeah I got the same issue today on 7. For now, I have hid the update. Tired of being MS's beta tester for their updates. From now on, I'm going to wait 2-3 weeks.

KB 43040556 installed fine on my Windows 7 Pro machine with a Q9550 processor, 8GB RAM, and a 128GB Crucial C300 SSD:

2018-07 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, 4.7.2 for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB4340556) ‎7/‎11/‎2018 10:42 AM Successful Important

I'm glad I dodged the issue.
