[Warm] Final Fantasy games 50% off @ Humble Bundle

Ah... I still can't get use to the re-make of FF6.

Why did they have to ruin the best one?!

Yeah greed/laziness is what happened to them. Remake them to look like they came from some shitty mobile port. Either way I'm sure they contracted the job out to some relatively unknown company and figure people are still going to pay premium money because the words "Final Fantasy" exist in the title.

It did come from a shitty mobile port, SE has been porting over the mobile versions of their games. At one point I heard the name of the company SE hands these half-assed jobs off to, but I can't remember who it is anymore.

FF and FFVII were probably the best they've made imo... Legend of Dragoon although not FF captured the same vibe and is right up there.

I spent a LONG time cursing that name - DotEmu ; They are a mobile porting house that I cannot ever, ever forgive for a number of reasons. Notably the port of FFIV for Android where the Japanese audio is included in the game files but there is no way to enable it save to swap your whole Android device to Japanese locale/language, which means the game's text goes to JP too! Any other combination of locale will set the text language to whatever supported (ie French etc) option there is along with enabling English vocal dub! They literally could have spent three minutes constructing a "pick your text language / pick your voice language" menu and saved us all the trouble but not only did they not do so, they also crammed part of the game not just into an APK (which, with some general hacking around modder's tools you can unpack and edit) they added an OBB which stands for Opaque Binary Blob, emphasis on the "opaque". This, combined with encryption meant it was very difficult to edit/mod anything without actually cracking the damn thing and that took a long..long time. All for something that could have been solved easily. Note this also impacted the eventual Steam version of FFIV but thankfully after a lot of work by the modding community there is an easy to install "undub" for JP audio, fixes for battle framerate, fixes to add original text style, and more.

Sidenote - if anyone is interested in Final Fantasy IV (or any other final fantasy / SquareEnix JRPGs etc...) I suggest buying on PC and this sale is a good way to do so. Note that after you buy, there are lots of mods out there for any given title that can generally upgrade the experience graphically and otherwise and I'll try to point you in the right direction if you wish. Enjoy!

No Final Fantasy Tactics, aww :(
There is no pc port of FFT.

LoD was ok. It was a high budget flop.

I find the 3DS version which the PC port is based of as crap. People complain about the FF5 and FF6 port but accept the 3DS ports?!? I prefer the PSP version of FF4 and of course the original SNES version.

I really liked Legend of Dragoon. It had some issues, but it provided a really solid base to work from. If Sony hadn't shot itself in the foot with marketing I imagine a sequel could have been incredible. I still remember the issue of PSM where the cover proudly proclaimed that LoD was the "Final Fantasy killer" and Sony ran with that marketing and it sunk the game.
