Steam Summer Sale has started (until July 5th)

Is dark souls 3 worth it? My back log is huge and I just got 5 more games. However, been eyeing ds3 just not sure if I'll like it..might wait on the next sale or until I put a good dent in my backlog hopefully before bloodstained, megaman11 and re2 remake come out...I normally wait on sales anyways bc my backlog is huge

Absolutely worth it.

If you've never played a Dark Souls game, then there's nothing else out there like these games (other than Demon's Souls/Bloodborne, which are PS4 exclusive). If you've played Dark Souls PTDE/Remastered, then DS3 should be a no-brainer purchase. DS3 is great even without the DLC (although I'd recommend getting the DLC as well).

Despite the hacking (I mean what multiplayer game on PC doesn't have hacking as a problem these days?), and being a two year old game, the PvP in DS3 is still alive and well... and I'd predict it will continue to be that way for years. So even if you decide to pick it up a year later, I'm sure you'll get the same experience as you would today. Among all the Soulsborne games, I predict DS3 will have the most enduring PvP community.

Even if you discard the PvP, DS3 is still totally worth buying and playing through solo. I'd personally put its single player experience right up there with the original Dark Souls as my favorite (each have their pros and cons). In all honestly, DS3 is a perfectly fine introduction to a Souls game as the lore is practically standalone. While DS3 is a direct sequel to Dark Souls, there's very little content there (mostly told through item descriptions) to link the two together. In other words, you don't need to play them in order. From Soft made all sorts of effort to ensure DS3 is a standalone experience.

DS3 is also the second best looking From Soft game to date with only Bloodborne slightly edging it out in overall aesthetics. They're so close though, it's not like night and day difference.

Only reason to hesitate would be if you're interested in getting it on another platform, such as PS4 or Xbox. Or maybe you'd like to get Dark Souls Remastered a spin first. Either way, I'd recommend getting DS3 at some point.

Absalom thanks for the reply. I believe I tried ds2 a few years back but didn't care for it. But after seeing ds3 the graphics looked allot better and more appealing. Would you say ds3 over witcher 3? I already grabbed w3 bc of all the high praise but trying to get through shorter games before I start that one! Well most likely wait for the next big steam sale in October

Dark Souls series is one of the most frustrating games to pick up and play for the first time. I don't think I've ever had my blood boiled so much. lol

Fun times

Eshelmen: I just picked up cup head and wow was it frustrating! I almost got to the point of thinking to return it. Until I just kept playing till 1 am and started getting the hang of it. How satisfying and fun it was! I'm not sure if ds3 will be the same though as cup head is pretty straight forward being a side scrolling shooter..

Looked up on you tube but u got any tips on getting kodi to work with the link or is it pretty straight forward? I got kodi installed with different builds on multiple PC's as well as a galaxy tablet so i'm not a noob

It's pretty straight forward. Basically the link is just receiving the screen and input/output of the pc it's connecting to. Just install kodi on that pc then add it as an app (or game can't remember) to steam. After the link connects, you run the app/game named kodi. Works surprisingly well.

Remember when these threads used to be 10-15 pages or more? Now it didn't even make it to page 3!

I actually bought something, but it wasn't part of the sale: Insurgency Sandstorm pre-order. $24 since I own Insurgency. Figured I'd give it a ago with the discount.

Yep. Miss those days. But, I don't think that's all Steam's fault.
I think its mostly Steam's fault. A major reason the threads were so long it the past is everyone would come to check what games were the daily deals everyday. Then people would discuss the games that were on sale that day and if they were worth buying or not. Now that the format of the sale has changed there really isn't a reason to check the thread everyday.

I ended up picking up Rebel Galaxy and Shadow Warrior 2. Also got Just In Time Incorporated, which is a fun little VR game (albeit somewhat short).

Yeah, that's fair. I really miss the game discussions. Many times, I would end up buying games that weren't even on my radar due to other people posting what they bought or were interested in.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Still waiting on Steam to ship the link out. They must have got hammered with purchases during the sale
