The [H]ardForum Perpetual Freebies Thread

I have a free iPhone 5 in need of a new home. I was using it as a nightstand clock but apparently it didn't like being plugged in 24/7 and is causing the battery to swell and warp the screen. It has a bad esn so it cannot be used as a phone again It would make an excellent practice device for testing battery replacement or whatever. Screen and OS works fine.

Poor laptops. :( You need to get them some older panasonic toughbooks!

It isn't quite as bad as I made it out to be! But some times they do arrive back with missing keys and such. Its a pain but its for the kids so I always tinker with them and fix them back up when I have some down time.

edit: forget it. I will grab something

Anyone have a cheap SSD they wanna pass along to a new home? A spin 2.5 drive would work too. I have this old latitude e6410 I'm trying to get going for one of the kids in my extended family. Had to replace battery and it had no ram but the CPU in this thing is still pretty strong compared to budget stuff on the market today. Has the i7 720QM installed in this one.
I've got some spinners... but IDK when I could ship, It'll be awhile......

Anyone have a cheap laptop HDD they could part with? Doesn't have to be fancy at all, my dad's laptop HDD died and I'd like to replace it.

Thanks.

I have a pile of laptop drives, but they're all head strike basket cases and have user data on them lol.

Not sure what you quantify as cheap, but Ebay has a big selection of cheap drives, here's an OEM 1 TB Seagate for under $40:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/372342720849

500 GB WD Black $25:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/283017538720

320GB WD for $27:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/263740944752

Or absolute rotgut for $14: (don't really recommend this, it will be dog slow)

My moms laptop hdd just died and I just picked up a PNY SSD for $40.

I may have a small drive though if you need it, not sure what the minimum size is you are wanting.

Any 771/775 Boards and 1366 Boards floating around and maybe some DDR2

Also if got a Xeon W3520 if anyone wants it

Anyone have a pair of 2x2 or 2x4GB DDR3 dimms? They can be super slow, just need them for an htpc that only does streaming. Has 2x2GB dimms in it now but FF loves to eat ram with Netflix streaming 4K.

FF eating RAM is a FF problem with bad memory leaks, it's been an issue for years. if I leave FF open for a few days, I've seen it use up to 4 GB of RAM with just a few tabs open to mostly text based forums.

I'd recommend trying Chrome.

I may have a 1GB DDR2 module, don't know the speed offhand? I think it was from a Dell Latitude 2100. Need to check when I am home.

Edit 2018-06-27, the box is empty. Sorry. :(

For a laptop trackpad :D. It's 3x4". I think any phone protector would do.

I bought a 2-pack and had a spare, but I'm looking around now and I can't find it.

Never heard of someone using a screen protector on a track pad. Is it... Useful?

pads actually wear out and or you just want to change the texture of it. Ive done this myself loads of times. Ive also seen people wear a hole into the track pad all the way down to the circuit board.

I'll take these if still available.

If I saw your memory post quick enough, I would have sent you the ram--in case you have trouble with the pc2-6400 and need slower pc2-5300, let me know. (y)

Need a heatsink for a Dell Precision 490/T5400 / SC1430
Can pay postage...to Ireland :D
As long as its not silly money (10-15 dollars maybe)

do those have standard ATX power connections, or Dell power supply specific ones ?
I believe they are regular ones, but I know the heatsink mount is a very specific dell design. It looks like this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optip...:yf8AAOSwSLtauo8R:sc:USPSPriority!35209!US!-1

And looking a listing like this--you'll get a lot more value getting it from ebay vs me since the shipping for just the motherboard will probably be almost that much once I pack it all up. And with this listing there's a cpu and ram included. I've noticed some sellers have started doing little things like this that make it easier to have some spares for the same price as just the motherboard. (y)

Looking for an older LG GPad 8.3 tablet if anyone happens to have one collecting dust ;)
Had one previously for 80yo mom to read with but the WiFi / Bluetooth went out on it,
already had a BT keyboard case for it that she liked a lot so at 80yo trying to replace... TIA

Note: looking for the 1st gen version, not GPad X or GPad II ...

Dunno if anyone can use them but I have two BNIB cases for the Samsung Rugby II flip phone (lol). Left over from a few years ago when work downgraded some unfortunate chaps from smartphones to flip phones. That didn't last long. Figured I'd offer before they go in the trash.
