I want to start building a rig again , I work in IT but i just havent had the time or money to do anything ! I was always an AMD guy so I will likely remain one , that being said I be happy to hear anyones ideas , Im looking a for a case , probably a tower , when I left having a 950 psu was was awesome but i dont know anymore , same with MB's i always went with boards that could be overclocked , and anything on the board could be manipulated (probably dont have anymore insane boards like Epox or Chanintech) , i wanna know form gamers who actuall y build there own machines , what i should or should not do

I would say start with a general idea of the case that catches your eye.

There are simply so many more choices than their used to be. (The ones I list will be my favorites, but there are many more mainstream cheaper options too)

ITX, micro ATX, and ATX (small->large)

There are even small startup ITX cases that would surprise you. They are sometimes smaller than game consoles.

Today you can get an 800 watt PSU probably have the size of an 800 watt PSU from the days you were building.

With AMD you are currently looking at 2 main lines.

-Ryzen AM4 (B450, X470) 4-8 cores
-Ryzen Threadripper (8--soon 32 cores)

ITX supports up to 8 cores. Micro ATX with support up to 32 cores.

Some examples of neat products:
ITX:
NCASE M1 (most options for the smallest size)
Lazer3d (quite small!)
Asus ITX (2 onboard ssd slots without need for sata connections!)
Silverstone 800 watt small form factor PSU (some serious power density here)

Other small run neat cases

Micro ATX:
Asrock Threadripper board (most feature rich compact motherboard there has probably, ever been)
Chimera Mach One (a very small awesome case)

ATX:
Others would know more than me in this space. Just check out brands like Phanteks, Corsair, NZXT, Fractal Design, Silverstone, etc...

Thats funny you said Abit , i used to use there boards alot, although i did use asus and gigabyte which i think were the last two boards i used. I wish I still had the Entec tower i had (ex wife trashed when i asked for it) , that thing was wide open , plenty of room and easy to clean , as far as cooling goes , Water cooled when I was doing this was a tricky subject , you actually had to add the water yourself , kind of like building a sealed aquarium and it didnt always work out right , personally ive read a bit about it and it seems like a better deal now adays , but im not so sure how intensive my gaming will be , most the games i played were ravenshields and ghost recon style games , although gta5 looks pretty cool on ps4 , PC games always had the advantage because you can mod them anyway you want , I remember making maps for Commanche 4 and Delta Force
