Microsoft has started their E3 conference with a bang: the Master Chief will be back in what may or may not be the follow up to Halo 5: Guardians. Infinite, which runs on a brand-new engine, will be available on both the Xbox One and PC (Windows 10 exclusive).

The Master Chief returns in Halo Infinite – the next chapter of the legendary franchise. Developed by 343 Industries and created with our new Slipspace Engine, Halo Infinite was revealed at the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing with a thrilling engine demo that provides a glimpse into the future of the Halo franchise, leading it into new and unexpected directions.

I thought the installations were destroyed?

There's still some rings left. Installation 04B I think off the top of my head. Really excited that it's offically been confirmed for PC.

Yeah, some are still around.

The Ark is damaged, but still alive IIRC. Once it fixes itself, it'll start replacing the busted halos too. How long that takes is anyone's guess, but it has to be relatively quick since it made all 7 towards the end of the forerunner-flood war.

Windows 10 exclusive, well F you M$.

Windows 7 will be past the end of its ten plus year support life when then comes out and 8.1 failed as far Windows versions go. I get not liking Windows 10 but at this point we're getting past all of that and into the reality that Windows 7 is getting old AF and Windows 8.x failed.

If Microsoft does produce the "proper replacement" to Windows 7 then it's going to be Linux or ChomeOS or a Mac for those that don't want to touch Windows 10. For PC gaming all those alternatives suck.

Wonder if I'll be able to get this on my LTSB version.

Also- screw them forever if they dont bring back Couch Co-Op

Regardless of its age, Win7 still has about 1/3 of the market. Microsoft is choosing to ignore a significant portion of its potential market in favor of...wait, what exactly? Getting a few more people to migrate to Win10, so MS can monetize them? Pushing Dx12? I can't help but think that they'll be giving up more in sales than they would gain by getting a few Win10 users.

A Halo game being launched on PC? What the........ I guess I'll take it. Trailer looked like old school Halo, I liked the look of it.

By the time this game comes out, Windows 7 will probably be well past the support time frame that was laid out years ago long before Windows 10 was announced. There's nothing new here, a decade after release of any Windows OS Microsoft moves on. Like everyone else.

We're at the point where Windows 10 just totally sucks. give people a Windows 7 option and look at all the folks flock back to Windows. Sure.

Well aside from the WIndows 7 thing, ahem ahem - I've moved on to 10 myself, I think M$ is going to win over quite a few gamers by releasing this for the PC as well. Plus, buying it once and being able to play it both on the Xbox while getting the big-screen experience and my gaming rig with all the eye candy and +100 fps, is totally fine by me! :D

I honestly did not like any of the games after Halo 3 and tolerated 4. If the consensus is good on this new one, I may get it on PC, it looks good.

Windows 10 sucks. Because of telemetry and spyware and whatever. Just install Windows 7 or 8.x with Classicshell and it's all good. Even 5.1 Netflix 4k.

This should be epic on the PC and the Xbox One X granted you have the TV or comp for it.

Can't wait. Gonna be great, im sure.

Xbone still has no games. Smart to put it on PC but Halo a shit serise anyway.

You’re tele’me,try to live with it since a great many things in this world suck but I’ll refrain from any political commentary.

Windows 10 aside, I will remain optimistic, or delusional, that Micro$oft is making a “real” attempt at making some great games while also recognizing PC gamers as well. Love it or hate it, the Halo franchise has created some memorable experiences for many a gamer.

I assumed this game would be XPA (Xbox Play Anywhere, aka own one digital copy of the game but play it on both XB1 and Win10 PC with your save data following you across both platforms), but I didn't wanna say for sure. You can never be sure with Microsoft. Now 343 just needs to follow The Coalition's example with Gears of War 4, and have offline/LAN co-op and cross-system multiplayer, and splitscreen local multiplayer on PC (which Halo 5 on XB1 didn't even have). I'm no fan of UWP but XPA ain't a bad way to do things. They been putting more and more major releases on XPA, so I wondered if Halo 6 would end up that way as well, and yeah it looks like it does.

The last Halo game we got on PC (not including the Forge tools or Halo Wars 2 or any of the mobile games ported to PC) was Halo 2 for Windows Vista right? By Hired Guns? The one where instead of coding in actual mouse control, they created some kind of fucking analog-stick-to-mouse-movement translation that made mouse aim feel all kinds of fucked up? And who can forget the debut of Games for Windows Live. Halo 1 for PC by Gearbox wasn't the most optimized console port, but Halo 2 Vista was something else. I thought I heard something years ago about a port of Halo 3 to PC? That never materialized. Master Chief Collection woulda been nice to have on PC too. Well now thanks to shared platform (UWP) and OS (Win10) and AMD64 architecture, and DX12 support, a Halo game is finally launching on PC alongside the console version. I assume they will be using DX12 only? Gears 4 used DX12 exclusively, but Halo Infinite ain't using UE4 so who knows. I thought I had read Epic helped 343 make a new engine for Halo 5. I assume Halo 6 is just using an updated version of that engine? Well in any case, hope Halo 6 is a much better game than Halo 5, cuz they kinda dropped the ball on that one. Loved the mostly-60-fps performance of Halo 5 though.

Yeah F U Microsoft for not remaining stagnant forever and using old versions of Direct X
I have yet to see a game that the "new" version does any better with. In fact for the few titles that did bother with DX12 and allow you to select between DX11/DX12, the DX12 mode's performance is actually worse.

Developers will continue to ignore DX12 and target DX11 because they don't want to alienate half the market still on 7 or 8.1 like Microsoft has.

Why MS continues throwing money down the drain by bothering to produce or moneyhat the occasional game but then condemning it to the windows 10 app store where nobody will see it or buy it - is anybody's guess.

OK after watching that video, I really want a RPG type Halo, instead of standard linear shooter. I dont really care about multiplayer 8v8 crap anymore.

Think Zelda BOTW but in Halo universe. Skyrim: Halo edition.

You can craft/whatever the different armors, but instead of just being cosmetic, they actually matter.

Collect rare mats to build a sniper rifle.

Etc etc.

The universe is large enough- plenty of storylines and goodies to make it happen.

Need to make money? Collect the pelts of Brutes and exchange them for credits.

Heresy for sure, but could be awesome if done right.

I was under the impression devs stick with DX11 and ignore DX12 and Vulkan because of consoles. Heck the only reason they moved en masse to 64-bit was cuz consoles are finally 64-bit (welcome to the party 10 years late). Consoles always get the primary development focus. I wish devs would start coding exclusively using the Direct3D 12 and especially Vulkan APIs, but consoles dictate where the money and dev time and industry focus go. I'm pretty sure Forza 7 and Gears 4 and Halo 6 (most likely) only use DX12 cuz XB1 supports it and runs on Win10. Otherwise I'm sure we'd see more DX11-level stuff from Microsoft's dev studios. I wish I could purchase these games on Steam or better yet GOG but nope, Xbox/Windows Store.

Their new slipspace engine needs work if that trailer's anything to go on. The wildlife, characters, and vehicles all looked like they were animated .gifs moving across the world. There was no real ground interaction at all. Hopefully it's just alpha problems, or a bad animator making the trailer, but damnit, this is Halo. Release something when it's ready, not when you need cash.

Not generally true. AMD hardware often showed nice gains with DX 12.

Developers are far more familiar with DX 11 so for that reason alone I would expect DX 11 to remain popular for years to come, even after Windows 7 reaches end of support. We are at the point especially with new PCs and hardware where there is no future or growth for Windows 7 and 8.1. Sure there will a lot Windows 7 out there for years to come even after support ends, but that'll be almost all legacy stuff running on older hardware and very little in terms of things like new PC gaming hardware.

Sure the Microsoft Store has its problems but there's a whole lot of nonsense being spread about it. It's just another store, I use it along with Steam, Origin, GOG, Uplay, etc. With Windows 10 hitting around 700 million users, the nothing that no one uses it for anything is silly, there's good and useful content there and some popular games.

Excited for PC version and IF they go back to their roots with this series. The latter games were crap IMO. Visually better but the story was, meh...

Needs a good co-op too. Online and split screen (for consoles).

Yeah... it really needs split-screen co-op. I passed on halo 5 because it didn't have it. I would have bought it even though it was only so-so from reviews, it's just fun to have some new co-op games. I've played other halo games split screen co-op with my son (or wife) and we had a good time.

Not really impressed by the demo, but my kid is really hooked in Halo so I might get it for the PC.

Grats to Microsoft on being the first video from E3 this week where I check the year on my PC. Those graphics and physics look seriously bad for 2018.
