Far Cry 5

Ran into something interesting the other night.

I was fishing near an offshore island, and a couple of ducks cane swimming from the island.

Just for shits and giggles, I decided to take a shot at one with the .50 cal. sniper rifle.

When I zoomed in on that rascal, I could clearly see his little feet paddling away underwater.

The saved his life as I was so impressed that they would go to that length for just a duck swimming.

Anyone else noticed any 'little' things like that?

The thing I remember most was the first time I killed someone with Peaches as my follower. She immediately started eating him.

The shadows impressed me. Get in a copter and fly into sun beam, they represent the shadow on the ground pretty well.

One of the more memorable things I noticed while playing in Faiths region, was walking through the forest mid day, the sounds of bugs buzzing, birds chirping, the shadows through the forest, but something else, I could hear the faint sound of the music "The Casades - Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain", in the background. It was downright creepy considering the setting and the hallucinations.

Finally got a chance to confirm something that I thought might be possible.

After doing the quest where you have to back the pickup up to trailer and then pull it out to get to the bunker, I said to myself, "Self, I wonder if it's possible to hookup to one of the reaper trailers?"

Well, last night I stumbled across one of the trailers, and lo and behold, along came a semi tractor.

I got the tractor stopped, commandeered it, and YES, yes you can hookup to the trailer and tow it off.

I wanted a screenshot, but for one reason or another I can't take them. I tried the F12 thing, but to no avail.

I left the game checked out all of the settings and noticed that in Uplay the hot key for screenshots IS F12 but it appears to be greyed out. I can change it to something else but it still remains greyed out.

Anyone have any advice as to how I can get screenshots back?

There are lots of neat things that can happen with animals and the semi-random stuff in the game world. I managed to free an outpost without firing a shot, disabling an alarm, or even having any henchmen. There were 3 random bears on a rampage who managed to clear everyone out by themselves. I jumped on top of one of the roofs and just watched the whole thing go down.

Some of the Clutch Nixon missions are affected by what was happening in the game world before you started the mission. I've had enemy vehicles, planes, and even animals unscripted chasing me through some of those missions. If you die they'll go away, but if they were chasing you before you entered the mission they sometimes follow you into it.

There's a lot to like about the game. I think it's a game that could have been a GOTY contender, but it lacked polish. Beyond the obvious buggy stuff, I must've fallen through the scenery into bottomless pits 4-5 different times Daggerfall-style.

Typically doesn't happen super fast.

Yeah, I think he's right about this. I spent quite some time waiting to see a major sale for Ubi season passes/expansion content and I've found that it is in many cases title dependent. I think it is important to watch not only Steam sales, but also to check out HumbleBundle Store (where if you have a Humble Monthly recruitmentl you can get a 10% discount that stacks ontop of others) and GreenManGaming (which is notable for having 20-25% off even recently or even pre-ordered titles, using commonly available codes. CDKeys.com also has some discounts (though they're better at games themselves and don't always have DLC or Pre-Order bonuses - watch out for this), and sites like Fanatical and others may offer a reasonable deal.

For Ubi games specifically, when you can find no greater promo, check out the UPlay launcher/shop. Sometimes they run their own sales which are great for older titles but midding for newly released ones generally. However, there is also an "almost hidden" promo that goes on constantly that can sometimes be the best option for Ubi titles or high value DLC like season passes - for around 100 of the Uplay "coins" you get for playing the games, you can activate a 20% discount off anything on their store that isn't a pre-order/just released title. This may be the best way you can go about getting the season pass for FC5 if you can't find a deal elsewhere

For what its worth, the FC5 "Gold" edition has a good amount of useful and fun content. The Deluxe Pack side (which Ithink can be bought as an add-on cheaply if you didn't get Gold) has a couple of prestige outfits, equipment, and vehicles. Notably, it comes with a helicopter w/chainguns you can use from the start and an offroad quad both skinned. This is accompanied by a skinned version of the compound bow and 1911 pistol, as well as a skinned outfit for each livery (ie the aerial pack or big game hunter pack). It also includes a prestige AR-C rifle in red/chrome which is neat looking, but it has a magnum revolver would normally take a little while to unlock in game but comes with an ivory handled prestige skin. I'm not sure if these prestige skinned items would otherwise show up to buy if you don't ahve the Deluxe Pack (there was also the Doomsday Prepper pack I got for preordering; not sure if the 1911 pistol, outfit, and van will be available to buy w game cash or silver bars if I didn't?).

The "Season Pass" side is more expensive and what I suggest getting your 20% or greater discount upon. It comes with a copy of FarCry 3 (which may or may not be worth anythjing if you already have it), and the 3 game expansions. Given the expansions are in totally different environments and are handled by the Blood Dragon team, I have high hopes for them. Players in the campaign will even run into certain characters that kind of hint at some expansion content (ie there's a film maker you find and help out on a sidequest who apparently is part of the zombie apocalypse expansion, there's a nutty scientist who builds a microwave gun and portals himself to Mars talknmg about an alien invasion which is the plot of another expansion, and there's a sidequest to find 12 Vietnam lighters strewn about the map; I'm guessing we'll run into their owners and the quest giver themselves in the Vietnam expansion!). In addition, buying the season pass will unlock a gold prestige skinned variant of a .50 cal sniper rifle, which you won't unlock the standard version (not to mention another version dropped by a boss) until significantly into the game - you may or may not enjoy using it right away.

So yeah, hope this helps. Season pass and other game content for FC5 looks to be worthwhile in the event it is long enough and with enough variety, while the stuff granted for use in main campaign can be useful and save you some money/time to start.

This game was pretty good I just feel like it's too short. Once you beat it there's not a lot of reason to keep playing. Coop - ok, multiplayer - who gives af, expansions -maybe, yet to be seen. I'd be happier with it for $30.

I actually like the multiplayer, just wish it wasn't P2P.

That eating trigger is from Primal, that game had a lot of gems in it if you could get over the lack of weapon varieties.

Ah, makes sense. Primal is the only Far Cry I skipped in the series. The extreme primitive game play didn't seem enjoyable and I had enough animal hunting from 3/4.

For all it's flaws, Primal was a lot of fun on survival mode in 4k. It's a different farcry experience due to the limited ranged weapons. Though by the end you can snipe out camps just like anyfarcry.

I liked Primal more than I expected to. If you see it for cheap sometime...try it. :)

Personally the grind for materials (skins especially) in FC: Primal is what ruined it for me. The story was not half bad, and the weapons (really the generous aim assist) were okay. Beastmaster mode was, eh, okay. I only kept them around to keep away pesky predators.

I don't need no AI to do the fun stuff (I'm looking at you, FC5 - except for Nick Rye, he's a necessity).

I forgot Primal even existed. Never played it. I think it came out with a bunch of other AAA releases or something.
As far as followers go, I was looking forward to Peaches, but found her constantly getting killed. Often by my other henchmen or because she ran off and got surrounded by foes miles away. Cheeseburger was a lot more reliable and rarely ever got killed by anything less than a plane or explosives. Boomer's not of much use once you start getting your own weapons.
Herc and Sharkey were the most fun followers, but once you blow through all of their dialogue, they're both kind of "meh." Both have a knack of causing friendly fire issues...or literal fire issues.
For sheer effectiveness Grace is probably the best follower. She can hit stuff from a long way away and she 1-shots most things. She's also great at taking out planes and those heavy gunner guys.
Jess is like a silent version of Grace with a lot less range. She and Cheeseburger are a great combo for freeing outposts silently. Sometimes without even doing anything yourself.
The pilots are either overpowered or useless depending on the mission. I wasn't a huge fan of them, but they're probably abusable for a lot of missions.

I enjoyed Primal but it isn't worth the $60, I picked it up on last year Steam's summer sale. Wouldn't pay full price for it but I did enjoy the story line, too bad it gets grindy gathering plants, animal skins, etc.

My favorite followers in FC5 is Jess because she's silent and deadly and Nick because when I need close air support I can count him to rain down some fire. Grace is great when I want to go loud.

I didn't really use anybody else but those 3. When I replay the game again, I will use different followers such as Cheeseburger and Herc.

Pairing up certain characters makes them say additional stuff, too. Herc and Sharkey for example. I wish there was more, though. After GTA4 and GTA5 (where you can hear new conversations 5-10 years later), the FC5 dialogue pool is pretty shallow.

Finally finished the game today. I was hoping for a huge mother of all battles at the end but that wasn't what happened. Not that it was a bad ending just a bit of a let down for me. Definitely a good game however and I got my money's worth out of it. Forget how many hour of play time but certainly more than 60 hours which I think is good considering many games don't go much beyond 20-30 hours of play time to beat the game. The voice acting was really good. The music was good as well. The writers can be proud they did a fine job. I really enjoyed the game. A shame it didn't have at least two more children/family zones to clear out but I guess that may come in a possible DLC expansion?

Hours of Darkness, the first of three planned DLC expansions for Far Cry 5, will be out on June 5, Ubisoft announced today...the expansion will move the game from Hope County to the sweltering jungles of the Vietnam War, where local boy Wendell "Red" Redler will embark upon a mission to rescued his captured comrades

the expansion will add new weapons to the game, including the M16 rifle, the SVD sniper rifle, and the M60 machine gun, all of which will also be usable in the main campaign...once the DLC campaign is complete, a pair of new game modes will unlock: Survival Mode, which Ubisoft said will deliver a more "authentic experience," and Action Movie Mode, which sounds like it will be basically the opposite...

Major problems with the latest v1.06 update. Premium/Pre-Order/Season Pass weapons, vehicles, and equipment are disappearing from equipped (holstered) status and in-game stores after a fast travel or death event.

Ubisoft says they are currently working on the issues.

Just played it. Wish I had waited. The small number of usable weapons got pretty stale quickly. I mean I think there were less weapons in FC5 compared to FC3, and they're essentially the same core game.

There's going to be FC3 Classic as DLC for FC5 only? I really wish they'd release it as a standalone and/or upgrade for the "old" FC3. Someday, I might play FC5 but I'm still a huge fan of FC3 (skipped FC4 for it's sameness after playing it for a few hours).

There's a bit of exhaustion that sets in from FC3 to FC4, but it has redeeming moments. The environment is a good enough mix I feel like, certainly felt a bit more cohesive than the sprawl that is FC5. There was a lot of potential that I just felt was not explored enough. Still, I would go back to FC4 - no need to find every mask (although that creepiness is unmatched) or do every side mission (some were truly awful). Longinus missions were good, and I'd estimate maybe 2/3 of the campaign missions were okay.

So... yeah, FC4 ain't that bad.

(With Vaas still being the most dynamic of the "absentee antagonists" in the series and Pagan Min does not match it.)

Vaas is my favorite FPS villain. It was a grand time especially with the exploration. Even playing Blood Dragon after FC3 really helped me appreciate Ubisoft. Now... not so sure about their management of game design & content.

I friggin loved Vaas. FC is ruined for me after that, no way to live up to him again. Don’t forget this Vass video with the kid from Superbad.

Vaas was great, which made the second half of the game kind of bizarre, with a new and pointless villain

This first DLC is decent but not earth shattering. You're in a jungle in Vietnam and you need to rescue your buddies and do your thing. ;) Fun if you need more of a FC5 fix of sorts with a different setup. I like it.

Ok gentlemen, I need some input.

I just got a Samsung C27HG70 monitor (2560 x 1440, 144Hz).

When I was changing the settings for the new resolution, I saw that HDR is now an option.

So, my question is: Is turning on HDR worth it in FC5, or am I better off not enabling it?

ETA: I'm running Win 7.

I'd say it's probably worth it, but it'll come down to your eyes...

I know that it's been awhile, but here's an update.

Just after my last post I enabled HDR. I used the HDR10 option.

I was not impressed. In fact it was worse that standard as text on builds was 'corrupted' and it jus looked horrible. I didn;t even bother to travel though the map to see if vegetation, water, etc. looked any different., and went back to standard.

Fast forward to last night.

Thought maybe I would try it again, and see just what the terrain looked like.

Well, this time, I found a setting that said FREESYNC 2. HMMMMM I says to myself, I don't remember see that the 1st time. Maybe I missed it.

Anyway this time I selected the FREESYNC 2 setting, and...WOW!

I am seeing things that I never saw before. It was night time and I travelled to The Lamb of God Church, and the difference was amazing. The lights in the steeple were awesome, and the lantern down on the ground kind of flickered instead of just pulsing.

Walking through the forest was eye opening. Could see a lot of difference in the colors of the flowers. Moss on the trees was more evident.

After it turned to day, I went the a favorite Moose hunting site and the difference in the Moose's coats was striking.

All in all I'm REALLY impressed.
