Intel Limited Edition Core i7-8086K For Sale

Why would anyone waste money on this overpriced chip when cheaper/better alternatives are already on the market or waiting in the wings. smh

Cheaper/better alternatives from Intel? I've been burned by AMD in the past and won't be going back, so this is a good upgrade. Does it really make you that salty to know people are buying this?

As cool as it sounds, will not be dropping the cash for this when the 8700k can hit 5GHz with some tuning as well for far less and then there is the AMD options for even less still....

I have a delid tool. I may. I even have liquid metal. I'm considering it.

Jeesh, am I the only one here who bought one?

You know ... you guys can flip your old 8700K for $299 on Craigslist / Facebook marketplace and jump on this CPU for $160+ out of pocket.

Why would I do that when I have a delidded 8700k which already hits 5 GHz with very good temps at load?

Soo you paid $160 for 200mhz?

Not delidded, right? I’m at slightly less than the voltage (1.365 IIRC) and my cores are in the high 60s/low 70s at load delidded with an Arctic Liquid Freezer 240.

Correct not delided. From what I've seen temps are usually around the 90s on older batches of non delided 8700k. I can't truly say if intel has changed the TIM or not but at least I can say mine is running much cooler. I'm using corsair 150i pro in a push only config. Maybe I got lucky.

My $160 and your $160 are probably two totally different planets. It's not uncommon for me to blow $500 - $750 a week on BS wants.

I'm getting 5.2Ghz semi-stable. I'm going to delid and apply liquid metal ( I think, not sure ) I could see me getting 5.3ghz on all 6 cores.

I think 200mhz to 600hz is going to mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Upgraded CPU, resell-ability, cool factor, if someones buying power is greater than someone elses, rarity, etc etc. From your question I'm assuming $160 is too much for you for such a small gain.

For free I'll take one. Figured what the heck so entered the contest while it was up. ;)

Otherwise, still running the good old 4770K. Upgrade bug is literally chewing my leg off atm though. :)

Nah $160 isnt a big deal, don't make assumptions. I'm glad for you that you have $25,000 to $40,000 a year to spend on bullshit. I just don't see the point of spending the money for for such a small gain but again its not my money.

I entered the sweepstakes - wth, right? I still have a 2600k system. I'm planning on replacing it in the next year. I think my next system will be Zen2 based...(was really tempted to pick up one on ebay the other day with the 20% off coupon...not ready to pull the trigger quite yet.)

I ended up 100% stable at 5.3ghz, that's after the delid and a liquid metal application. 1.35.5v with temps in the mid 80's. I still have one core that's running 3 or 4 degrees hotter at 87, 88 with a very rare 89 sometimes making an appearance. I'm still playing with the vcore. I also added a bendable 80mm fan to blow over the socket from the side which I really do not know if that's helping or not.

So I paid $173 + Lunch + Gas + My time for 400mhz. Thought I would include those stats for my new extra special friends that are very interested in what my mhz cost me. In addition to those stats I would like to award the few of you with a virtual participation badge and a virtual hug. I try and make all my posts 'safe zone friendly' but I admit, sometimes my replies / comments do bully and hurt others feelings. For that, I apologize. With that said, Jay2Cents might be easier to follow. I've heard he has a very warm and soft and fuzzy feeling voice that's a safe zone all in itself.

For the HardOCP'ers in here that know that those last few mhz come dearly, outstanding work. Carry on men! /salute

The Intel i7 8086 sweepstakes results / winners are supposed to be announced no later than the 22nd of this month before noon I think.

However, there are a lot of crafty assholes out there that can push a ton of email addresses, spoofed computer ID's along with different IP addresses. I'm sure it's gonna be very difficult to win one of these.

I was at one of the Dallas Fry's, and down the street from the Dallas Microcenter, and almost ran by to pick one of these up because of this thread...

But man, I do not need it :ROFLMAO:

I think I will stick with my Kaby Lake 7740X which runs at 5 Ghz on AIO cooling at 80C. It may be EOL, but it runs just fine.

Have you tested AVX stability?

This would be a good SKU if something really neat was included. Clock speed is one thing, but why not solder the HS? Or include an awesome looking cooler with it that works really well? Nobody sees that chip in awindowed case but they'd see the HSF. Missed opportunity IMO.

I'm staying on the 7700K for a while yet and I think my next move will be the next Zen generation with 8 or 12 cores. I want to see something with better mitigation for the recently discovered vulnerabilities; AMD already has a leg up on Intel there, and I suspect the next gen may improve on that.

Hmmm, should I pick this up? I have 4.7ghz i3-8350k.
I do game, edit photos and work with some videos.

Sounds like a good plan to me for what you need! 5ghz on all 6 cores with ease with high Hope's for 5.2-3ghz overclcok.

Am I the only one that thinks $75 for a measly 300Mhz over an 8700k ridiculous? 8086 is just a binned 8700K. What a joke for a "40th anniversary" CPU.

Not surprised, coming from the same company who celebrated 20 years of CPU dominance with a Dual-Core without Hyper-Threading.

The anniversary i7-8086K seems to be selling well. Just took this screenshot
