Is there anything up AMD's sleeve?

I was just reading the news about the new Intel 28-cored monster that they were showing off in Taiwan. Just curious: Does AMD have anything to counter this chip when it is released in September?

Well AMD Naples is a 32 Core part which we've known about for over a year.

Just buy EPYC if you need the cores. Server parts will be the first 7nm refresh outside of Vega 20. They already have the Ryzen dies in stock for 12nm so they will probably go to 2xxxX parts threadripper2 and maybe a 2800X. Higher core count CCX dies will come next year so we will see 12 core or 16 core AM4 next year and maybe 32 core threadripper later next year.

AMD Ryzen 2nd Gen Threadripper 32 Cores Confirmed
Who would have guessed it!? AMD will be serving up a 32-Core 64-Thread Threadripper in Q3 of this year. That is word from an early morning press conference in Taipei that is live right now. Still on TR4 sockets. Threadripper coverage starts around the 20min mark.

Is an "In your face, Intel!" warranted?
Really, their 28 core got pwned.

I would love to see amd come out with a stupid high thread part like the intel phi chips. pair it with crazy high bandwidth mem and make a part that could put a dent in the supercomputing/highly optimized programs.

I hope my Asus ROG Zenith Extreme can handle 32 cores with just a BIOS update...

That is what AMD has confirmed. They are drop in compatible with X399 motherboards after a bios update. I would think your VRM would be more than up to the task. If there is any worry, you can always add direct airflow to it and it should be fine.

It sounds like Intel got caught with their pants down.....again....

Well I mean Intel did show the 28 core CPU at 5ghz on all cores which is impressive. But, they failed to mention how much cooling they needed, how much fucking power was needed, and what motherboard they used (although the Media figured that out).

So I mean don't get me wrong 5ghz on all 28 cores is impressive no doubt about it.....but very impractical!

But all in all AMD releasing a 32core CPU later this year....Well yes Intel was caught with their pants down for sure!

If I could double (with a couple of cores to spare) my core count and double the speed of the cores of my current 12-core workstations... Well, that would be an impressive boost in performance. But 32 cores would be even better.

looks like you got your answer today.

The TR 1950x has an advertised tdp of 180w. The epyc 7551 and 7601, 32 core processors each have an advertised 180w tdp. I doubt you'll run into issues, especially if they improved efficiency with these compared to the first gen.

I think the whole GPP business really p*ss3d AMD off and they decided 'It's On', us vs the world, and now they're perhaps hurrying things out their development pipeline.
Frankly, my bet's on AMD

I hope not , clearly they did not like the whole situation with Nvidia but if that is their only motivation then they might as well pack it up ..
