Let's all see what Applies WWDC 2018 is about as it happens. WWDC is "Worldwide Developers Conference" if you were wondering...

Check out the live feed.

The event is used by Apple to showcase its new software and technologies for software developers.

Wonder what pre-existing tech they've finally adopted they will lay claim to inventing this year. :cautious:

i was bored and clicked... and all i see them talking about is "siri shortcuts"...

really? and when they introduced this woman... she was apparently the leader of the "siri shortcuts team".... a team... a whole team of people to create shortcuts?

least I got my free laugh for the day.

They went big on Security on macOS this year.
I'll be interested in seeing how that actually turns out.

By their description they doubled-down on the 'walled garden' to create an 'online presence' that is identical to essentially all OSX devices, and things like built in security warnings into Safari.

In Safari, like buttons and share buttons, and comment fields can be used to track you.

If you do want to interact with these buttons, you'll get an alert. And you can decide to keep your information private.

My attention is raised. Let's see how it actually works, but at least their trying something.

I actually really like the focus of this round of updates. No big changes. Just performance tweaks, etc. From early reports of folks now running the iOS 12 dev build it runs substantially better on older devices in particular.

IMO this was the right move for Apple as iOS 11 was a dumpster fire in performance/stability.

Is it finished? Does that mean no update to the macbook pro?

WWDC is a developer event, they don't normally talk about new hardware.
I was not aware of that. Some sites were saying that one could be announced at it. Am I confusing WWDC with another event around this time?

They announce hardware typically end of summer/start of fall. WWDC is always about software for the most part. They occasionally announce new hardware at a WWDC but it isn't typical.

Hey look, Apple at it again pretending their new features haven't been around for years in competitor devices

I don’t think they pretended anything this year. It was more about fixing the issues of iOS 11.

Multiple people in facetime, grouped notifications....etc.

Sure, but ya'll are the ones acting like Apple was touting these features as ground breaking. The tone of the WWDC wasn't that at all.

They have announced hardware in the past at them...just not common.

The most interesting 'feature' they seem to have added to the iOS 12 developer beta is that the USB/Lightning port is disabled for data connectivity after 1 hour of the phone being locked now. This means that the USB password cracking devices that law enforncement has been using will be defeated.

I hope that's user definable, because mine would be as soon as the screen is locked

Not currently - Just a toggle option under security.

All sorts of decent quality of life improvements in iOS 12.

I really like how they're letting integrating 3rd party maps/messages/etc into carplay and Siri so you aren't limited to the Apple walled garden if you don't want to be.

Oh, and auto-updating. That should have been in since iOS 2..

The better scheduler for older phones kind of excites me. Will be needed with multi session FaceTime.
