While the developer insists that Destiny will not be neglected nor forgotten, Bungie has just accepted over $100M from Chinese Internet technology company NetEase to build a new game. According to boss Pete Parsons, the goal of the partnership is to make Bungie a global game and entertainment company that could develop and self-publish multiple new titles.

What this means for the future of Destiny remains to be seen. Bungie's original deal with Activision was for the studio to develop Destiny games and their expansions over the course of a decade. The first game launched in September 2014, which means we're not even four years into this supposed decade of Destiny.

This combined with the other news about P2W games just makes me think their next game will basically be pay 2 win Destiny. Maybe they’ll call it Fate. And then they don’t even have to worry about balancing it because people will just throw money at better weapons to make the game easier.....not that they’re worried about balance right now anyways.

Wow, funded by the Chinese!

Bungie is an extremely talented developer. I fear that this change could effectively kill them off or make them suck. Sadly this tends to be the case when developers like this are bought up. Look what happened to Crytek.

The way developers handle MMO's it's not a surprise why the MMO market is at a all time low. If it isn't the subscription model that forces developers to make copy paste content, then it's the fact that you can't expect developers to make content so quickly in a short amount of time that isn't also copy and paste content. To make matters worse, the micro-transaction market makes it really unprofitable for a game to include content that you'd expect to be there. It's just so much better to have a game with some of the content, and later released as DLC, than to have the entire game from the launch.

Destiny's problem is that it thought it was a good game before cutting up and breaking apart its content. Also, gamers are learning that they hate copy and paste content. Should always focus on making a good game first before exploring unsavory practices in a game. Actually you shouldn't ever explore unsavory practices, but not like that would stop you.

I wouldn't call bungie a talent developer. They got lucky with Halo and that is it.

I’d argue formerly talented developer, that still has hints of greatness. They may have got lucky with Halo but they backed it up with 2, 3 (and the engine for 3 was a beast) ODST, and a shitty multiplayer most people loved. You don’t back up luck multiple times in a row with more luck.

They’ve certainly lost talent, but for all the flaws of Destiny (of which there are many) they still crafted a unique and interesting setting (that they presented in the worst possible manner) and myself and many others have
gotten many hours of enjoyment despite the flaws.

You can hardly say their past 17 years of success is all luck because of Halo 1 being a stroke of luck.

Destiny still exist? after the train wreck that was the initial release never went back. Don't care that they fixed the story with later expansion packs I refuse to play more money for a broken game. That is like spending $50,000 on a car then finding it doesn't have an AC, wipers only work for 5 minutes every 8 hours that the car is running, car stales every 3 hours for 10 minutes. However all that has been fixes with a new software patch that will only cost you $25,500. That should have been a free upgrade for everyone that bought the game at launch. By the time 2 came around had no desire to even keep up with anything a d since it's launch haven't heard anything. So doesn't appear to me that they sequel was a very popular game

another battle royale game on the way.

In other news.................... meh.

You guys are dating yourself. Marathon was awesome, even tho I had to go to a buddys to play since I've always been pc. And myth was pretty dang good too. Not sure they got "lucky" with halo...

No doubt, but in a way I agree. Multiplayer has never been my thing, and while Marathon/Halo 2/Halo 3/etc may be great MP games, SP wasn't enjoyable. Halo is the only good one in my book, and that despite how the game was rushed through development. Halo 2 was such a letdown.

Let's not forget Oni (though technically it was Bungie West), and for those with nostalgic shades there's Oni:AE.

On topic: Assuming they give Bungie the reins, I'm cautiously hopeful (and care not for Destiny).
