Anyone jumped on the HGST 8TB sale on newegg. The HUH728080ALE600 is being sold by Bluefish Worx as new (nothing indicating that is referb or used) for $149 + $5.99 shipping. The HUH728080ALE604 is being sold by goHardDrive and is listed as referb. I have never dealt with any of these sellers, but just ordered the HUH728080ALE600 from Bluefish Worx. Will see how it goes.

If someone can also provide some info about each drive, would be great. The only difference I could find is the HUH728080ALE604 supports secure erase base on the model decode info here:

not worth the risk or lack of return ability - wait for next 8tb easystore sale from bestbuy

+1 only reason not to go for the easystore is if you really needed the 7.2k rpm instead of 5400, the WD white are pretty much equivalent.

aren't people still getting reds inside many of them which would be 7200rpm?

curious if the $150 sale last week resulted in reds, the stock has to be fresh at this point

What do you mean lack of return ability? They have a 3 year warranty do they not?

I've had nothing but success with the 3GB version and I'm about to try the 4GB one next.
For cheap server storage with RAID redunancy, those 8GB's would be worth a try

You're thinking of the WD red pro's those are 7200 rpm, the reds that occasionally come in these easystores are the 5400 rpm (WD80EFZX and WD80EFAX).
I think there were a few folks that got reds this go round, but it was very few. I imagine it varies what the factory is outputting and lately its primarily the whites.
Its been rumored for as long as I can remember they are newly manufactured drives, but had an issue and were fixed and placed in the enclosure.

I think they were referring to ease of return-ability back to the seller if its not perfect (like the BB easystores are since they have physical stores).

Yes, it states 3 year warranty, plus standard 30 day return to newegg. Even if the drive is DOA, I have no intention of returning to the seller. I have used Seagate's advance return countless times and find it way more efficient than dealing with resellers.
