EVGA removes guest RMA *Update: Both USA & Europe removed guest RMA. Harder to check warranty now.

So I read through that and I dont really understand what the "abuser" did wrong. If someone has a dead GPU that they didnt bother RMAing, that doesnt mean any future owner can't RMA it either... ??? please do explain

I think that it has to be purchased through PayPal that is protected. For example, a purchase that doesn't use friends and family. I have RMA'd a device purchased with PayPal with EVGA.

I believe it is that user not even owning the card before he started the RMA process that was wrong. EVGA even states that its warranty is transferable but I can also see how some people could abuse the system.

I don't necessarily think so. Those cards more often than not will have their warranties honored unless a company goes belly up. XFX and EVGA still have some of the better warranty practices in the industry, although, your mileage may vary depending on the CS rep you're dealing with.

Thank you. Makes sense. The variance in CS agents is something that it seems like almost every industry has! And the funny thing is how well the 'hang up and try again' method works.

The thing is EVGA isn't being exactly clear on "resellers" on 2nd hand cards.

Unless they are saying the 2nd owners needs to obtain the original receipt that the original owner bought from a reseller.

It is pretty effective and another reason that I try not to get too upset with CS reps.

I think that they use that vagueness to cover them so that it is up to them if they will accept the RMA. I have always requested an original receipt if it's available to help with warranties and in my experience has been extremely helpful when dealing with a difficult CS rep.

Actions of one person shouldn't fuck everyone over. I don't see ASUS, MSI and gigabyte making it harder for consumer to get warranty. Cards warranty is 3 years period! Why does it matter how it was used as long as someone buys it in working condition. Someone buying it second hand is not extending the warranty. I doubt evga is the only one that sold mining cards or what not. So I think this is bad on EVGAs part.

Also I chatted with someone he said cards bought on or after 25th will require a receipt. I don't have a receipt for mine. I asked him how the heck do you find out if its bought before 25th? He was like it wont apply to you, you should be good if you don't have the receipt since my card was shipped from warehouse on 1/09/2018 he said. I dont know if he was bullshitting me or he meant cards shipped from the them after 25th. Thats the only way I See that making sense. Because if they shipped the card to retailer on or after 25th that is the only way he can assure it was purchased after that date so they would require a receipt.

Either way you will always have people that abuse the warranty system but majority of the people I bet are decent human beings that follow the rules. EVGA shouldn't change the warranty staying hush hush. I didn't even know about it until the guy told me in chat about the may 25th thing.

I never thought of the current mining market is a reason for this change in their warranty service. It does make a lot of sense now that I think of it and you're right that the action of one person shouldn't affect so many other individuals. It is also annoying to find out that they decided to change a significant part of their warranty services without an announcement but you know I'm sure how the actions a few will affect the majority of people. Just look at how Amazon is now canceling accounts with a certain percentage of returns because of people abusing their system. It happens.

Yea. I didn't know it either until the rep I was chatting with told me. I was like so do I have warranty on this product or not? He was like yes you are covered and I was like what if I sell it to someone will they be covered too? He was like yes we will cover them from the day it shipped from our warehouse and they he dropped the may 25th thing on me. That's when I was like how do you determine those who got the card before may 25th and don't have receipt or how do you know they didn't get it after 25th if they don't have the receipt. He just told me that it wont be an issue for me. I was like okay! lol. So I thin they are sort of leaving that window open for denial I suspect.

Not sure, they aren't very clear. I mean if the card was sold by retailer before may 25th and customer doesn't know how does one prove it? Sort of a grey area there. Like my card was definitely purchased before 25th and it was never registered by the original owner so I registered it. So how does one get warranty now if they can't registered. Lot of questions that should be answered by EVGA. I can't believe that it wasn't reported anywhere, they kinda pushed it under the rug.

Well, you're right. That is a pretty vague response and at least you're covered. I hope if you do sell that your buyer is covered.

well what happened was to register I just entered a random date. Then I chatted with them and told them I don';t have the receipt but registration was asking for a date and I entered 1/09/2018.

You know whats funny? He told me there were over 2 and half years left on warranty, he gave me the amount of days left. Then I calculated it and it was starting 1/09/2018. ROFL. I was like hey are you just aren't giving me the date I put in on registration? He was like no this is from our internal system as to when it shipped to the retailer. I was like you sure? your system is not just overriding that date with wrong purchase date? He was like definitely that is the date when we shipped to the retailer, I was like I couldn't have been that lucky lol. He was like I guess you are.

yea I am not sure what information I should go by. May be I should test it by chatting and changing the purchase date and then seeing what they say about the remaining warranty lol.
 
I really like eVGA for a lot of reasons. I hope this clears up in favo(u)r of consumers.
 
I have been reading their reditt. Lot of pissed off people. Here is what an evga rep said. I mean how the fuck does evga actually tell when you bought the card? I mean are they taking your word for it. Hey I bought it feb 2018 can I get RMA without receipt? If so thats great, and how the heck do they tell if its a second hand buyer? Is it linked to first person that registered it as original purchaser? Now I would be covered but the second hand purchaser wont be because it is registered to me and they can tell I unregistered it so I become the original purchaser forever. So likely I have to do the rma! I asked a bunch of questions in that post lets say if they are clearly able to clarify the grey area. Seems like they can easily deny RMA since its very vague.

Now I think what will happen is down the road when all cards are shipped by their warehouse after may 25th. They can easily tell if you bought it after may 25th. So you would need receipt regardless and they can easily say hey the card shipped from us may 25th so you couldn't have bought it before then so provide receipt. That might be the end goal here.

 
They have been hassling people over cosmetic damage. They are making the warranty terms worse. Jacob doesn't want to comment...

Hopefully people will stop buying their cards.
 
Where is EVGA's warranty document? It should have everything spelled out.
 
Miners don't factor in warranty coverage when buying graphics cards.

Enthusiasts and consumers who know the 2nd hand PC hardware market here in the US do. EVGA no longer cares about that market. Now, they are afraid of it. They sold every freaking thing they had, a ton of it to miners, and now those cards are hitting the 2nd hand market with broken fans and other things that are nickel and diming their warranty stash.

EVGA had lifetime warranties on some of their cards back when BFG was still in business and offered that. That's eroded with the lack of competition in that area. Now, EVGA is just another brand with an average product line. Their 2nd hand warranty, following the card not the receipt, was a factor for me when considering one card over another. Their pricing should start to reflect their positioning and we will buy accordingly.

As a business they can do what they like. We do the same. I bought an ASUS card this week.
 
This warranty change is interesting timing for me. I don't usually buy GPUs secondhand but this market forced me to a few months ago.

My used 1080Ti started crashing at anything over 90% power recently. I called EVGA this morning and explained that I bought it used and asked if I could still get support and the guy immediately opened an RMA for me. No fuss.

I'll still keep buying EVGA.
