This does not impact anyone except in Papua New Guinea, which is just a bit north of Australia. It is still an incredibly interesting story of one country taking action against what it sees as "fake news." The government is going to block Facebook for a month to "understand users' behaviour and safeguard them from fake news." I am not sure exactly how that would work, and there is little detail about it, but I would bet that this will not end up being taken well by the folks that use Facebook in Papua New Guinea. Thanks cageymaru.

"We cannot allow the abuse of Facebook to continue in the country. I will now work closely with the police for them to be properly trained and informed to fully enforce the Cyber Crime Act," said Basil.

Of course, the best way around this would be to do away with "news" feeds and the like. They opened themselves up to criticism when In an attempt to monopolize screen time (and data mining revenue), The Face Book added more and more bloat.

That crooked, mocking bookface logo drives me nuts. I do not like or use Facebook, but that logo is less than perfect and it bothers me, for some reason. I am not a graphic designer, but I do know where the Photoshop button is on my computer. Or maybe that's intentional?

Better or worse? A or B? Like this or like that? Something about a wiffle ball bat?

While I'm no fan of Facebook, I don't like the idea of the government deciding what is "fake" and what is "real" news.
True, I image you don't think its otherwise when it comes to big things.

Actually, it has nothing to do with "Fake News".

As reported by BBC News: "Papua New Guinea will ban Facebook for a month while it identifies fake profiles and considers the website's effect on the country."

It's only about fake profiles. Get your story straight!!

Every country should just block Facebook and other social media. People would start acting like humans again instead of being zombified.

LOL! Yeah, that is it, something outside the person is actually changing what they already are on the inside. Yeah, right.:rolleyes::oops:

Yes, a lot of us are narcissists. Doesn't mean we have to be actively enabling that part of our personalities.

Closing down the internet and cell phones would bring about world peace. Wait, may be free weed for everyone. Ahhh, a combination of both would be utopia.

hmm, found the article and this bit from it

The time will allow information to be collected to identify users that hide behind fake accounts, users that upload pornographic images, users that post false and misleading information

is not passing the sniff test. there is no reason to BLOCK the service from those reasons listed, actually the opposite.

there is another reason why they are banning facebook for a month

I'm sure this has nothing about blocking information unpopular with government officials from getting out.

We all have freedom of the press rights for a reason.
