No Man's Sky - a procedurally generated sand box space exploration game

have you found a space anomaly yet? Fly into to get the first.

So...

Like I said in my OP, I have talked to Nada and Polo many times. Neither have ever offered me an Atlas Pass or a recipe to make my own.
Thanks for responding.
This issue needs to be known.
It should be impossible to play as many hours as Ive played and not be offered an Atlas Pass.
Especially when it is so integral to the game.

Looky here.

The first time I talked to Polo, he should have offered me an atlas pass. or a recipe or something...

HE DID NOT!!!!!!!!!!

How in the fuck do I get one now? That is the question.
Does anyone know of coordinates where there is a dude who offers them.

Now, this could, in a way, be my fault.
Early in the game I was alerted that an anomaly had been detected.
But I said fuck that anomaly I'm going to go see what's over here.
I explored. So sue me.

Eventually I said to myself, well, I better go see what these anomalies are all about so I went to one.
I think it might have been in association with following the quest where you meet Apollo and some dead but not dead traveler... sorry for spoilers if they can be considered that at this point.

I didn't know that visiting the first anomaly was SO FUCKING IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So after reading your last link.

Since I chose to explore instead of following the Atlas Path.....

It looks like I will never get an Atlas Pass.

I don't know how to more explicitly state that I have visited anomalies, atlas stations atlas interfaces etc, etc, etc,

The game is over for me.

Thank you for putting me out of my misery.

On the bright side (going by the last time I played), you don't get jack from atlas stations... Maybe a little useful resource here and there.

It just fucking boggles my mind that something so important as an Atlas Pass can be just missed.

They make a game urging you to explore and in the act of doing so you fuck yourself out of one of the most important elements of the game.

Thanks for your 50 bucks. Now fuck you.

Boggles my mind.

You know.
I'd heard all the negative shit but decided to give it a try anyway.

It's all true.
This is a broken, boring repetitive piece of shit.

I wonder if I can get a refund at this point.

Now you might laugh and ask.... "Hey wrangler, you got 80 hours of gameplay out of this game, how can you ask for a refund now?"

Because that 80 hours was spent looking for an Atlas Pass that doesn't exist but is integral to the game. This is THE definition of a defective product.

I am SO FUCKING PISSED RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to stick to established franchises from now on. All of you prospective indy game developers can all go fuck off and get a job at a place that knows how to make games. Fuck you.

I'm sorry that you can't seem to get the Atlas Pass, but 1) no one else seems to have had that issue and 2) it's not going to magically change the game anyway. Like ChoGGi said, it just lets you get more loot that's pretty common anyway.

MavericK will agree with you that the game is boring and repetitive but as far as I have seen, you're the first to report it as being broken. In any event, it doesn't seem right to throw every other indie game under the bus because of an isolated issue in one game. I for one welcome indie developers and their contributions to PC gaming. There are some really good indie games that are a fresh change of pace from the recycled garbage that the big studios crank out. And several of those games from established developers have suffered from game-breaking bugs that prevent you from progressing past a certain point vs. the minor issue of not being able to loot certain containers.

Wow.
You sound so sane and informed.
Unlike me right now.
I'm sure when my rage passes I will be sorry for the things I said about indie developers. Until then....

1) there is a process for gaining an Atlas Pass.
2)it is entirely possible to miss this process by simply playing the game.
3)it absolutely changes the game when you cannot go through literally every single door that is on every single space station in THE ENTIRE FUCKING GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been a bit of time since I played, and I enjoyed the exploration until I didn't. Definitely got my money's worth. I kept stumbling over the atlas stations every 3 or 7 warps as I was making my way core-wards. That or one of those two chauncers kept bugging me to get back on the path. *shrug* If that is not your experience then so be it. I know you got the better passes by completing regular space station missions to gain ranks in what ever.

Sorry to drag you guys through that.
I was really astounded yesterday and, well, drinking a little.
I had been avoiding the internet about these things so I could "discover" it on my own. After reading through what modi123 linked I kinda just went crazy and looking around at how this happened.
Still astounded today but the rage has passed. I sent a bug report. We'll see.

I don't know what to tell you man. You bought the game knowing full well it was made by this guy:

BTW...
Both Steam and GOG have threads in their forums with the same problem.

I guess it turns out that if I farm Outposts I can eventually get a V2 pass which will open the V1 doors but only V1 pass will open V1 containers on the planets.

sigh
Apparently, when you first wake up, you have to say yes to following the Atlas Path.
If you say you want to explore or whatever, your fuxed.

Aaaaannnnnd me, yes me, I am the exact person who would say no thank you, I don't want to follow no Atlas Path right now, let a dude look around for a little and I'll get back to you later.
And here we are.
I'm all for consequences in games. This locks the doors on every single space station and ground station you go to. If this was an intended game mechanic, all I can say is I am not a fan.

What you're not quite understanding though, is that if you choose not to follow that path, and just want to explore, why do you care if those doors are locked? There are plenty of resources, and plenty to explore without them. You can also get onto that path later in the game IIRC. Furthermore, if you choose Yes to the Atlas path, you still don't have to follow it. It's all optional.

I played ~40hrs before getting an atlasv2 pass and I did not at all miss it. From what I can tell - it's a few resources in some super secret rooms. By the time I got it, I had traveled hundreds or thousands of LY and have upgraded my ship a few times. So the benefits weren't really... beneficial.

NMS, for me, appeals to a fun space sim exploration game. It's cool to fly around and explore worlds. But imho gets old after a few hours or so. There is a great deal of diverse worlds out there, but the art style and diversity of scenery gets old. After you've seen dozens of radioactive or toxic or cold planets or gets kinda meh. They all look mostly the same. There are some genuinely interesting worlds like forbidden worlds or the high security worlds because fighting the sentinels can be fun sometimes. Finding and going through blackholes is pretty cool. Or just jumping 1700LY in a single jump a few times to get closer to the core is cool, too.

I am ~60hrs in, and I am still about 100 jumps away from the core of my first Universe.

What is an atlas pass ?

I’m still melting rocks. There’s more to it than this ?

Not really.

Melt rocks -> go sell rocks -> get more inventory space to sell more rocks at a time. That is, essentially, the entire gameplay loop.

MavericK will agree with you that the game is boring and repetitive

LOL, I missed this post. You know me so well. ;)

No Man's Sky Next Trailer

this seems like the version that should have been released to begin with...

They probably would have, if they didn't have pressure to release when they did. The game could have easily used an extra year to year and a half, but I have a feeling "the internet" would have been in an uproar, not to mention Sony...

Exactly. People criticize just to do so. A team of what, 10 people originally made this game?

The patch that the internet cried about is finally here. Let's hope the negativity diminishes finally.

Exactly! What these guys have managed to create, even if it took them an extra year or two, is incredible. There's really nothing else like it. There are a few building/survival games that are getting close, but definitely not in the overall scope. If they keep going like this, there is a TON of potential to still squeeze out of this game. I'd even be good with some paid DLC now that they've basically broken their backs to deliver their original vision. I can only imagine that they could use some funds after working so long to get it where it is. I'd love to see it expand to the point of being everything anyone could ask for in a space game. It's getting close. If they started adding some options for heavier simulation, they might even pull some of the Elite and Citizen types of people. I'd hate to lose the arcadey and immediate feel though. So "options" being the operative word.

I wonder how much budget they have left though to continue onwards for many months to come? I've heard they had to refund many players in the beginning months, and I don't think their sales after refunds was THAT much. As well, I believe I read somewhere that all dlcs for the game would be free, and if they change that, back to the internet screaming again.

On top of that, I wouldn't think they're using the same servers as before, so there's an added weight to their spendings too.

Time to reinstall this game finally. Bought it last year during the steam summer sale. Looks like its finally the game I wanted. Base building anymore, AND build your own ship?

Gonna give the game another try sometime soon. I installed it about a month ago, didn't play it yet. This update looks pretty cool, plus I haven't experienced the other free content updates yet since I haven't really played since about a month after the game came out which I played about 50 hours or so.

I also rebought it on the last summer sale. Anyone want to give MP a shot ? Have not reinstalled.

Well, since you asked.

Somewhere around the 160 hour mark, yes, 160 hours, I randomly received an Atlas V1 pass from a manufacturing facility.
Within 30 minutes, all of a sudden, I had V2 and V3.

I felt bad about my rant earlier so I never came back and ranted again but even more frustrating was trying to get a Warp Reactor Theta.
I had achieved the required animal scanning requirement at about 80 hours. I didn't receive a Warp Reactor Theta formula until 190 hours into the game.
You literally cannot "finish" the game (well, the Atlas Path) until you have a Warp Reactor Theta.
I visited the Polo and Nada guys 100s of times thinking each time, THIS will be the time he offers me the warp reactor. But no.

I think I just received a bad installation. The game is supposedly randomly procedurally generated and my installation was a fucking time sucking boring ball buster that felt like a job and not a game.
I know other people have had other experiences and I see people on youtube with 150,000,000 units and class S haulers with 48 slots and freighters and all kinds of shit. I have a 30 slot Class A hauler and they want 50,000,000 units to do a trade for a class A with only 2 or 3 more slots. WTF?
The only reason I have this many hours in the game is that I am sick. I literally wasn't going to quit until I could at least complete the Atlas Path. My installation took me almost 200 hours. I still have to get to the center.

If you wonder about my ability, or effort, I have every achievement. I can read almost every word in all 3 languages. I have explored and worked my fuckin ass off.

Oh another thing. I still only have 14 of 16 glyphs. Somewhere along the way the travelers quit showing up. I haven't found one in forever. Somewhere on the internet it says you can find graves in caves with your scanner. I say bullshit.

When I finally uninstall this sick twisted piece of shit, it will be like, I would imagine it feels like, getting discharged from a mental hospital.

I haven’t heard anything like this. That really sucks. The first time I played, I was on a ridiculously barren and fairly hostile planet. So I restarted the game a few hours in, and have had a blast ever since.

Sorry to hear about your pla... i mean, work-through. I don’t blame you for feeling like that. Maybe someone can find you a dump you a bunch of tech though now that multiplayer will be up.
