Despite Sony’s new direction, the PlayStation division will, obviously, continue releasing hardware. But while new consoles are a no-brainer, PlayStation chief John Kodera surprisingly noted that his staff was looking into portable gaming again, despite their lackluster results with the Vita. Whatever is being planned could turn out to be an extension of some kind for the PS5.

He hinted that the next console may be closely integrated with portable devices, but said it’s “not yet the right stage to discuss specific hardware plans.” “In my opinion, rather than separating portable gaming from consoles, it’s necessary to continue thinking of it (portable gaming) as one method to deliver more gaming experiences and exploring what our customers want from portable,” Kodera said.

Ass= handed.
The DS is due for an update, i wonder is that is coming, or they will do a switch micro with built in controls. The crappy thing is they are probably locked with nvidia, so who knows how horrible that contract is. Well dont know if they could go arm amd in any case.. might be too difficult?

I hope they succeed with the new mobile console. Unfortunately, they always push their own proprietary memory instead of the standard SD cards.

Nintendo is great with mobile, but it would better to have other choices than just them, Android and iOS.

Sony and mobile handhelds never works out well, you'd think they would have learned that by now.

If Sony did something like a 7nm revison portable PS4, I'd buy it.

The apu in there would have to be REALLY efficient, but gaming notebooks pull more wattage and run on battery, so who knows?

Man, if your name is not Nintendo you need to be making phone games.
Maybe a PlayStation App that has games...

Copying Nintendo again? Nintendo made a home console that is portable, so now they want ps5 to have portability. Just like they copied motion controls from the Wii after their success.

I actually really used my PSP When it first came out, and would honestly if it wasn't for the lack of games on the Vita, would have bought a Vita as well.

UMD was a TERRIBLE Idea, games on a flash stick would work but would cost just the same. They need to make a portable system, that has at least 8hrs on the go, charges in less than 2, and put quality games and hardware in the same pack. Done.

I swear to god if Sony tries to replicate that god awful controller from the WiiU, I'll start a riot.

The PSP and Vita were both pretty fantastic machines, but they had minimal software support. It was a bit like the Wii in that they got lesser versions or spinoffs of larger AAA titles. Both had a lot of good fighting games and the Vita was surprisingly capable with shooters.
Trick is, I'm kinda over portable games. Lugging around the Switch is impractical and most cell phone games suck thanks to touch controls.
If they go the mobile route it needs to be more portable than the Switch and it better not force them to dumb down the PS5.

I would not be surprised if Sony attempts to replicate the Nintendo Switch experience for the PS5.

As much as I want to hate on Sony for their treatment of the Vita, I can't help but be intrigued by a Switch-like mobile device released by Sony. I wouldn't want it to be *the* Playstation 5, but a separate quasi-mobile/set top console like the Switch that can interface with a users PS5 (an evolution of the Vita capabilities with the PS4).

I wonder how much one could shrink the PS4 level of performance. It'd be really cool if it could perform similar to a base PS4 when undocked but go full PS4 Pro mode when paired up with a dock.

they can make a portable and if its good and has good games awesome BUT if it uses anything other than microsd cards for extra storage it's a no buy for me!

Vita was great hardware, just no games for it.

Then again, the switch is pretty farking sparse... but N gets a pass?

Vita was powerful hardware gimped by Sony.

Proprietary over priced mini SD cards, etc

Switch gets a pass because it has awesome games that most people want to play like the new MARIO and Zelda.

The Switch definitely doesn't get a pass from me. I think it has been a pretty lousy system. Too weak to be a good console and it's too bulky and impractical for a portable. Worst of both worlds IMO. It's just unfortunate that I love Mario Kart and Smash, so I'm stuck having to own one.

There's a ton of games from all regions. As far as last-gen portables go, I prefer the Vita over the "new" 3DS/2DS.

Bought for zelda, played mario.... When i say it's been used sparsely after that, it's being conservative.

The remixed version of Street Fighter 2 probably sees the most action at my house, but it's borderline unplayable online. Bad online systems combined with 99% of the userbase on WiFi = disastrous. I think I'm just a glutton for punishment. I figure once Smash hits I'll probably never touch anything that isn't a first party Nintendo franchise.
