God of War 4

Non spoiler type dumb question:

I just hit Alfheim. I had a lot of things I hadn't finished in Midgard. Will I be able to get back there at some point?

Also: Will I be able to return to the Witch in the Woods area because she had some areas in a cave outside that I had no way of accessing to when I was first there.

Thanks.
Yes.

I think Thamur's Corpse is the only area you can't go back to. You can visit some of the indoor areas, but the large open outside area you can't return to. At least that I can find. The internets seem to agree.

I just finished this yesterday. I have to be totally honest, kind of disappointed in the ending. It seemed fairly abrupt and didn't really feel like there was closure overall. Definitely seems to be designed with DLC or a sequel in mind, there is still SO much more to explore.

Still have a fair amount to go back and do, but it is a bit odd that some of the side quest stuff really seems to be designed to be played AFTER you finish the main story.

Overall I'm still feeling impressed with this thing. Some of these in level "Treasure box" puzzles and such can kiss my butt, though. ;)

I kinda felt the same way with the ending. I figured Thor would at least make an appearance at some point during the game with how much the story is centered around him. I still loved the game and story overall, but yeah, the ending just seemed to come too soon and without much closure. Hell, we didn't even get to see any giants alive either (well there was that one kinda during the last fight, but didn'td really count IMO). I was hoping to get to talk to one and find out their side of the story.

I'm sure they're saving all that for the next one though and I'm sure it'll be amazing on PS5. Looking forward to Detroit: Become Human in a couple weeks now though! :D

Have you gone back to your house since you finished the story? If not, you definitely should.

So I'm finally finishing up the last few things in the game. I just finished killing the valkyrie queen, so all I really have left is the realm tears in Niefelhiem and the impossible Muspelheim challenges. At this point I'm fairly overpowered, so not much survives very long.

Runic builds are definitely the way to go with the Runic abilities being so strong. I have the runic focused mist set with as much cooldown as I can socket. If I really wanted to, I can basically just rotate through my 4 runic abilities for eternity.

I don't think they will have any dlc for this game. There is no season pass and didn't even mention anything Hing about dlc. The entire world is changing and still serveral relams we haven't gone to yet. I have a feeling you will have to go back hellhime in the sequel and handle some buissness with a certain someone.

All I have left is the Valkyrie Queen, Niflheim tears, and 2nd round of volcano trials. Not sure I'll bother with any of those things, but I do hope to at least take out the Valkyrie Queen at some point.
Niflheim feels like the kind of grind I'll bail on, though. Is there some kind of trick to it or is it really designed to take like 3-4 hours of spamming runic abilities and murder of crows?

It's honestly not too bad once you get one of the mist armor sets. With the whole set you can complete an entire loop around in about 10 minutes and easily get 5000+ mist echos. The only variable is having to get the other item to close the rifts. It's a random drop from a chest, so how fast you collect 3 is up to RNGsus.

Definitely worth doing the Valkyrie Queen, though. She's actually pretty darn difficult, and it's very satisfying when you finally get her down.

If you do a full loop around and kill the tougher mobs at the end of both corridors you will net about 7-9k without going for the noir chests. Those are a pita to get sometimes. The more chest you open the more echos you get. The fog item also need drops in the last room of either corridor typically

Those of you on a PS4 Pro - are you playing in prefer resolution or performance mode?
Performance. Resolutions looks nicer, but framerate is king. Plus I have it hooked up to a 1440p monitor, which Sony in it's infinite wisdom refuses to support, so the resolution mode renders at faux 4k, then downscales to 1080p, then upscales to 1440p.

I found the resolution mode to be better. Performance mode was way more inconsistent with frames to me. I rather have a constant 30fps than have it jump around during combat.

It's relatively consistent im my experience, most combat encounters are at 50-60, Lake Of The Nine runs around 30 though.

I couldn't handle resolution mode. Anything with fog or smoke effects felt so sluggish. I also don't think it visually looks much better. Most of the time in performance mode the game runs between 45-60fps, which I'm happy with. Most enclosed areas stay at 60fps, which is especially nice.
Usually when I go from playing PC games to a console game there is an immediate jarring performance/visual difference but I don't get that with GoW. It's honestly pretty close.

Maybe some of the patches helped performance mode a bit. I only tried it the first day, and I really felt like it was too inconsistent.

I played on Performance. Yeah, at some parts it felt like it was running near 30 FPS anyways, but for the most part, I definitely appreciated the smoother game play over resolution. It's odd though because any other game that offers an uncapped frame rate or higher resolution (locked at 30) I would pick resolution, but this game somehow doesn't make the unstable frame rate feel nearly as jittery to me as most other games have.

Haven't had much time to play through most of the post-campaign content other than farming for mist echoes to get all the armor that requires it. It's a grind there, but the combat in this game is so fun, it doesn't get too old for me, at least not yet.

I find the resolution mode is better for me. It is constant 30 fps for the most part and looks so damn good.

are graphics better then Horizon Zero Dawn or even Uncharted 4?

It's definitely one of the best looking games I've ever played...PC or console. The art team for the game knocked it out of the park for sure. It's up there with Witcher 3 for me.

how does it compare to Horizon Zero Dawn?...I hear God of War has amazing indoor graphics but outdoor scenes don't look as amazing

Overall I think they are better than HZD, but that's also a much bigger open world than GoW.

I think the characters models are proabably the best ever. You can actually see the sadness in kratos eyes. HZD does get the edge on out door graphics but GoW wins ever where else.

I think the character models are better on GoW (for humans/monsters anyways, hard to compare against the huge robots that are impressively detailed in Horizon) and yeah probably better indoor textures/detail as well since a lot of the game takes place indoors. Whereas Horizon is mostly outdoors (cauldrons are about the only indoor areas I can think of) and the lighting alone in that game is probably the best I've seen in any game, esp. when walking through a forest area at night time with the moon light beaming through the trees and making the leaves and vegetation glow at night, but there are also so many outdoor vistas to gawk at in that game as well.

I finally ended up completing this over the weekend. Such a great game.
It's probably worth mentioning that you'll want to do the mist stuff before the Valkyries (especially the last one)...otherwise you're just gearing up for nothing. Can't say I was a big fan of that area, though. I could have done without it.
It does feel like there are a couple places where they could slide in some DLC, but I kinda hope they don't. At least if they do, it needs to be akin to Uncharted Lost Legacy aka. a mini sequel.

Platinum'd the game last night. Valk queen was a pretty hard fight even with me being almost Lv 9 with maxed armor and stuff. Took me at least 90 mins of fighing her alone to bring her down with several of them getting her down to the last bar of health before she murders me (for the 2nd time with the resurrection stone, hah).

Then I see this guy beat her on the hardest difficulty with Lv 1 Armor and never get hit once, lol.

Sorry, no spoiler tags; game has been out over a month now and you either should have beaten it by now or shouldn't be looking in game threads of games you haven't played through yet. :p

Finding all those damn Ravens was the worst trophy by far; I was down to the last one and had to go through every location following a Youtube vid to find it. At least the map shows you if you've gotten them all in a certain realm so far, but of course my missing one was in Midguard where 43/51 ravens reside, hah.

I'm glad they don't have a trophy for beating the game on a harder difficulty as well, because I wouldn't want to play through it again without a Newgame+ mode, which I know has been requested a lot and acknowledged by Santa Monica, so hopefully they'll be dropping that somewhat soon.

I gave up on the ravens when I spent 20 min trying to hit the one flying in a circle at the end of the bridge lol.

I bailed on the ravens. I got 29 of them I think. I missed a couple collectibles along the way as well. I doubt I'll bother going back for any of those. I am somewhat interested in the "impossible" Muspelheim trials, but they lost me by making the very first one a don't get hit mission. Yeah, I'll pass on the forced cheese mission.

Yeah, the first one was kinda retarded for me too. The first "don't get hit" wave on the way to the Valkrie up there wasn't too hard (got it the 2nd try I think), but the first trial after that took me about an hour to get through. I Youtube'd it and found that if you use the Travelers Armor that absorbs one hit, it helps a bit. Also, that Rune that lets you slow down time with L1+X helps a lot as well and recharges relatively fast.

I felt the complete opposite. Don't want to ruin this for anyone despite how long it's been out now, so throwing the rest into a spoiler tag. Not much of a spoiler, but still:

Throughout the game you embark on this borderline insane, arduous journey. It was nice to have such a calming experience near the end where you finally reach the spot you've talked about, and have a nice moment of bonding. They've said before that this isn't the end and that they'll continue with the Norse aspect.

Additionally T4rd, you need to go visit your home (use a portal to travel to the one near your house). Short scene, but quite epic.

I'm still quite impressed with this game overall. I'll be remembering it at the end of the year.

Oh absolutely. I didn't want it to end when I beat it this weekend. I can't freaking wait for the next one.

Surprisingly, I've got very little left to do. Perhaps a few Valkyrie's here and there, but I've basically gotten the collectibles and all that done through the initial playthrough as I made sure to explore every nook-cranny (and backtracking to previously visited areas to unlock things with the newly found abilities). This game rewards looking around for sure. That being said, I'm going to focus on other games now, despite having a few more things left to do.

Playing a second round. Really am enjoying it with another go...love Mimir character, talking head, and forgot about how rough around the edges Brok and Sindri can be...so funny. Plan to take on all the Valykries which I did not do on the first playthrough as well as the Muspelheims challenges.
