Destiny 2

Seems nobody wants to play the Exodus Crash Strike. The last two times I've gotten that mission both other players bailed almost immediately. I get that it's not that fun, but it's no worse than the Vex Mind strike. I freakin' HATE that one.

I'm tired of most of the strikes. I wouldn't mind some more variety or at least having more control over which ones I play at any given time.

I don't disagree. Even though they're harder, they're still the same 'ol missions. What's funny is that the one on Titan, Savathun's Song, has two different paths that the game chooses at random. It also mixes up the types of enemies the game throws at you. None of the others really do anything like that. At least other than the "infinite forest" stuff. Seems lazy.

Hopefully when the year-end overhaul patch comes out we'll see some variety or (better yet) another strike for each planet. For now I don't see myself playing them any more than I have to. I'll do my 3 per week and any tied to unlocks and that's that.

I'd like to see more variety in the Public Events. There is enough content to support it.
Back in the Destiny 1 days I used to have a good time just doing Public Events, not so much in Destiny 2, especially since the rewards have been nerfed.

I'd like the whole concept of "powerful gear" to go away. Right now there's no reason to play once you've done your powerful gear quests for the week. For every 1-2 low level players you see there are about a dozen players that have hit a wall and are only playing to get a specific drop or only Crucible.
They should make normal stronger gear (1-2 levels over what you have) drop at random. "Powerful gear" just leads to weird level spikes where an item jumps up like 5-10 levels and everything else slowly plays catch-up. Why not just keep the same progression system for the entire game?

For anyone else trying to complete the Nascent Dawn 3/5 quest, there are luckily lots of other people in the same boat trying to do the same. I've seen multiple large groups going through Escalation missions rapid fire. I do have to wonder why anyone is bothering to try to complete levels 2 and 3, though. I've only seen one group complete 2 and you still get nothing for doing it. 99% of the time it's a waste to even try. The ogre isn't too bad once you get above level 350 and there are more than 4 players, but levels 2 and 3 seem to be designed for players way higher or for much larger groups.

The masterworked version of that weird ass-backward scout is pretty good. Having a larger magazine does matter. I still think something is up with that gun, though. It's a kinetic rifle taking up an energy slot and it can't be modified in any way.

EDIT: I stumbled upon a large/strong group that managed to beat level 3...and we STILL got nothing. What a waste of time.

It is and likely as not I'll never get it done without some refinements or blind luck. It just isn't worth it.

A chest pops after completing lv3, but the only thing I've seen come out is a couple tokens. Nightstalker w/ Orpheus Rigs destroys the groups pretty easy with shadowshot + grenade spam, and with 8 ppl it's not too bad getting past lv4, but lv5 is just a death fest.

Finished Nascent Dawn 3/5. Get the same Scout Rifle as before but now it's a Masterwork.

Yup, that's all it is. I'm going to guess right now - 4 is probably going to drop one with customizable features and 5 is going to be an Exotic version. I don't see why else they'd give us the same weapon twice if it wasn't some kind of foreshadowing.

Looks like Step 4/5 shouldn't be too horrible and it nets you the exotic version:
That leaves step 5 as potentially being something huge.

Finished Nascent 4/5 last night. Took about 30 minutes or so. You do get the Exotic Scout Rifle. Will be interesting to see what the tasks are for next week and how difficult they are.

Yeah, after all the trouble from the last two ND quests this one was a breeze. I did the first half in about 4 minutes and the mission only took maybe 20. It didn't even seem to be any harder than a normal mission. Those damned Psions certainly weren't easy 2 weeks ago.

I'm kinda unimpressed with the weapon they gave out though. For an exotic it doesn't feel much better than a normal legendary. Especially not one of the elite ones like the Better Devils or Nameless Midnight.

Hopefully the one next week will be a more exotic version of this gun.

Bungie revealed during today's livestream that Destiny 2 Year 2 will bring major changes, including a new raid called Dreaming City, a new Gambit mode that will combine PvE with PvP in a potentially very interesting way, new super abilities, randomized weapon rolls and mods in the style of Destiny 1, and a brand-new weapon class: bows...

Game Director Christopher Barrett:
It's time to talk more about the second year of Destiny 2. This September, we’re adding core systems that will reinforce the Destiny hobby. We're also planning to deliver much requested features centered around customization and end-game pursuits. Now that Forsaken has been revealed, we can be more specific about what Year Two will deliver to every player of Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 needs this in a big way. Hopefully Forsaken is "Taken King" for this.

Not going to lie, I'm way more excited for this than I expected to be. Considering I stopped playing before curse launched warmind has been pretty fun, the latest exotic changes and weapon balances have helped a lot.

I've not played Destiny 2 much since release, but I've been meaning (if I have the time) to give it another try. Overall it seems that this year 2 setup here is potentially a good thing, that they heard the issues compared to the first iteration. However, there are still a few things that concern me..

First, I saw a discussion (maybe it was Verge) of this Year 2 setup and they discussed it as is Bungie was making Destiny 2 for "those who want to spend hours online every day and treat it as their primary hobby". If that is the focus, I lose a lot of interest. Now maybe things really arent' that way, but I do not want something increasingly grindy or designed to be exclusionist, missing content t for those who are not playing all the bloody time. I think its an error when MMOs do that and I certainly don't want a "diablo shooter" to have that kind of ethos.

Next, monetization. I hated seeing the amount of items and whatnot available in Destiny 2 (and the original Destiny for that matter) that came exclusively from "Silver" the premium currency. Likewise, dropping items primarily in lootboxes is another frustration. Now it looks like they're going to be charging a whopping $80 for Year 2 - if you want the complete DLC pack including whatever Digital Deluxe stuff they'll add. If they're going to basically price it as an entirely new game, and a high value one at that, it had BETTER measure up. That said, if they're going to be charging for expansions I don't mind it - actually favor that business model IF AND ONLY IF they put an end to also having "Silver" in game and restricted cosmetics only available from its purchase and use. You can't basically release an expansion - at full game digital deluxe uber 9001 edition price no less - and cry poor while also insisting people pay extra for cosmetics. One or the other - not both! I'm really skeptical about the pricing of the next "season" in and of itself, but they need to stop this kind of double-dipping and exclusivity on top of it - you already have a continuous revenue stream!

Finished Nascent 5/5. Gives you the Catalyst for the Exotic Polaris Lance.

Anyone know if the next DLC will be covered by the season pass or will it be a separate purchase?

What's the player base like? I abandoned before dlc dropped but bought the pass.

"OK" but not great. The DLCs helped a little bit.

The console side has the clear advantage on size of active player base.

Didn't get to play at all last week, but luckily the final Nascent Dawn quest was quick and easy. I'm guessing that's that for Warmind quests, but I'm more than happy with what they did.

I think there are lot of people still playing on the PC. It's rare that an easily accessed public event doesn't have at least 3-4 other people playing. Crucible matches almost universally fill up in under a minute. I've never waited more than a minute for a 3-player strike. It's not like I'm writing down handles, but it anecdotally feels like I rarely encounter the same players too.

I haven't done the grind for the Osiris weapons fully (God they really did not make getting Paradox Amplifiers easy) and some (not all) of the Warmind quests are a bitch. Wifey doesn't want to raid so we haven't really done any of that either.

I find it so damn weird that so many external services are required to make this game shine - DIM (https://destinyitemmanager.com/) and Discord (there's a healthy PC LFG channel).

I did the Osiris quests earlier and they're BY FAR the worst grind in the game. They make the Nascent Dawn seem trivial. A few of the weapons are pretty good (the Perfect Paradox shotgun is amazing for PvE bosses), but almost none of them are among the elite weapons in the game. It feels like a disproportionately large number of the best legendary weapons are Vanguard-based for what it's worth. At the time getting an Exotic ghost was a big deal, but Warmind has several of those with better bonuses. The Perfect Paradox is worth pursuing, but I'd skip the rest of those quests if you start getting bored.

Finally hit 370 this week, happy with that considering I dont have time to raid. Warmind wasn't an omg this is amazing expansion but I'm having a good amount of fun with it.

I'm still in the mid 360's, but my weapon loadout is basically the same as yours. I just about never see any power weapon drops, though. My shotgun and sniper are level 365'ish, but 1/2 of my other weapons are in the lower 350's. I finally managed to masterwork all of my armor and all of my normal dozen'ish legendary weapons.

I'm still a little amazed how good the Graviton Lance is. If it isn't the best gun the game, it can't be any lower than top 5. That's for both PvE and PvP. I'm an incredibly average PvP player, but it's a rare occurrence for my K/D ratio to be under 2 now. I have to think it's going to see nerfs sooner than later. Every other gun I've really liked already got 'em :p

How is the Ikelos shotgun? Feels like the full-auto shotguns are great for PvE, but they kinda suck in the Crucible. I see lots of shotgun specialists in the Crucible, but they're either using the raid exotic or just randoms.

IK Shotgun is a PvE monster. In PVP? Not so much.

If by randoms you mean the few blues that are good?

Fused Dark
Hand in Hand (green LL 200 shotgun)
Tractor Cannon (probably one of the best if you aren't running a VW/GL due to catalyst)

See this post:

Not necessarily blues, but just a wide variety of shotguns that I see one person using and then never again. Not sure if they're blue or just whatever they happened to have at the time. I *have* seen the Baligant and Deadpan Delivery a time or two, though.
The Tractor Cannon is neat, but it seems tough to rock an exotic power weapon with the VW and GL being so overpowered now. Then again, if you're playing as a legit team (and not just pick-up games), that changes that dynamic.

So I finally feel like I made some progress. I finally finished the rat king chain quest and I'm now on the escalation protocol parts of both the Ikelos and Nascent Dawn quests. 15 Sleeper nodes ... really? EP is a total crapshoot for me right now as I really just wait around and sometimes get lucky and a group shows up. Or 4-5 randoms appear out of nowhere when the event is started.

Escalation is definitely the most annoying thing for a solo player. It's just total luck whether a competent group of people is playing or not. On the plus side, people are way more leveled up now than they were at launch. For the first couple weeks it pretty much took at least 6 players trying their hardest to even complete a single protocol level. Recently I've been a part of a group of 3 that completed one.

If Bungie wants people to play it, they should make it part of the weekly "powerful gear" drops. Issue a powerful engram set to players who complete 5 of them and I bet there won't be any issues with people ignoring them. Right now the only people playing them are coordinated groups and a few Nascent Dawn people.

Of course you can always do Escalation the troll way … Since some are very close to public event locations you can always fire one off just before a public event starts, if a bunch of people are waiting to do the event, as Escalation pauses the public event timer. Then they either help or wait … not that I have ever done that lol.

Oh and by total coincidence Mars is the flashpoint today for powerful gear, so there are a bunch of people doing public events.

When "PC Clan Text Chat" gets patched in 9 months after the release...
*facepalm*

I feel that the development turnaround is really held back by the console patch validation process. If this was PC first, we'd see huge changes that benefit the PC community quickly. Such is the sad show we're in IMHO.

Only got to 347 & now I'm tired of it again. At least The Division added the Shields to keep the game rewarding until TD2 is released.
