But 16:9 television is just a cropped ratio of Cinema right? Why not match our TVs to what we crop from? "This film has been modified from its original version to fit your screen."
No. They are two different standards for two different applications. Cinema 4K is a DCI standard for digital cinema presentation and distribution. UHD is an ITU-R standard for television broadcast and presentation.

1920 x 1080

A few months back my Samsung 4k UHD bit the dust so I've been playing on a 24" or 28" LED 1080p monitor.

2560x1080 on a 34" LG (I voted 1080p for brevity's sake) Big fan of the 21:9 Ultrawide form factor.

2560x1080p. Still waiting for the Acer x35 that does 200Hz.

And, all I wanted to do is best express the vertical resolution of a monitor. After all, the horizontal resolution is variable if you have a a 4:3 vs 16:9/16:10 vs 21:9 vs 32:whatever verses..... 500 error

Since I game on my PC mostly I game at 1080P, but if I am playing a game on my HTPC then it's 4K, but normally I play controller style games on that (racing, platform, etc..)

1080p on my projector. 1440p in my living room. 4k in the basement on my main VR rig. Which do I enjoy the most? 1080p in the theater, on a 104" screen with surround sound. Though, I am a huge KB+M junkie I can tolerate an XBox 360 controller in the theater.

1080p for my Ps4 but 1440p on my pc. Recently bought a dell monitor on sale with g-sync, can't wait to test the bad boy out.
