Asus GTX 1080 Ti - $567.99

I bit however two things to keep in mind

  • OD/OM are known to cancel orders, likely due to only having so many cards but allowing plenty of orders.
  • Expected ship date isn't until 6/29.

Some sources say next month. Other sources says Q3 of 2018 or later. If Nvidia has alot of 10xx stock, don't expect a card in the next few months.
 
Are these reference design boards? Might bite if I can put a water block on it.

I doubt they have a huge stock of cards atm. If they planning to release new cards in the next 3 months they would of slowed down production by now. If not stopped altogether.

Why would they be planning to release new cards in the next few months if the current series still has strong sales? It's all about demand.

Not even reference board design, end up cancelling my order after finding out Heatkiller IV block will not support it.

Believe the idea is that GPU manufacturers make batches of cards. Since the 10 series is sunset Nvidia may not be creating additional cards on the 10 line, and changing fab over to get the 11 series out the door in July as is rumored. Also, just because a product is selling well doesn't mean a company won't push forward and leap frog their competition, helps retain strong or better sales into the next year.
 
I am sure we will see next nvidia cards this year. its already been two years. But I think Nvidia is also probably worried about miners dumping a lot of cards and hurting new card sales. Mining demand already seems to be going down.

Youve got your GPU companies mixed up. o Nvidia isn't nfamous for specs, promises and then silence for 6-12 months. Once the CEO shows it to a camera, it's already on it's way to stores.
 
Nvidia will release new cards despite current stock or demand. They are very much quick to release and replace.

I talked to the Nvidia REP at Microcenter. They have actually had vendors telling him that they will haave the new cards in the stores end of Aug / Sept

Not in quantities sufficient for demand, which they could easily anticicpate. It's been eons since Nvidia ended up with overstock after a launch.

I've been buying graphics cards since the voodoo days. Yes I've seen both companies do it. But they last few cycles, this has been the case.

People will say miners yada yada. Either way, it's been the norm, in my opinion.

"Easily anticipate", no, that's not how GPU manufacturing works. It has to ramp up. "They could've just made more", no that's not how GPU manufacturing works. It has to ramp up.

When Nvidia announces a card, you know its real and its probably for sale within a week. "But I couldn't get one cuz so many other people wanted one too" isn't a paper launch. A paper launch is a slideshow about a mythical GPU, followed by 6-12 months of silence.

He seems to not understand that shit tons of Nvidia cards are sold at launch and they do their best to keep up with demand. And 90% of the people bitching about not being able to buy a card were not even going to buy one anyway. I have never had any trouble getting a card at launch if I really wanted it and that goes for the 980, 980 ti, 1080, and 1080 ti.

Yes on previous gen cards it was not a problem to get at launch. If gpu mining was still a thing like in December and January then 1180 would be snapped up instantly on launch by miners. With current coin prices now I don't believe it will be too difficult to buy 1180 at launch unless they are some beastly cards for mining. I don't think they will be much more better then 1080ti.

Yeah, though if the GTX 1180 has the 16 gb GDDR6 a rumored, then it's possible that for gaming at least the 1180 > 1080ti in certain scenarios [e.g. high res textures at 4k].

The 1180 should be superior to the 1080Ti in nearly every gaming scenario, if not all. It may not be a good value upgrade if you don't value energy savings, but it would make little sense otherwise.
