Apple Blocks Steam Link on iOS

Earlier this month we told you about Steam Link and how you could use it to stream games to your mobile device. Original plans were for an Android and iOS version. Both versions were approved and were readied for roll out this month. However, Apple has revoked its approval because of 'business conflicts' and those of you that wanted to use this on your Apple devices are out of luck. I wonder what the conflicts really were?

Steam Link launched as a way to beam PC games onto TV, allowing players to enjoy their favorite titles from the comfort of their sofa. Valve apparently tried to appeal the ruling, pointing out the abundance of free game-streaming apps already live in the marketplace. However, those pleas went unheeded.

Maybe Valve wanted to gather certain information from the user device (hardware specs, OS version and language, installed applications, etc.). I think Apple cracks down on that.

Apple wanted more money from Valve.

^this part right here, They wanted 30% revenue from "in-app" purchases (IE: Steam store)

Fuck apple, greedy ass fuckers!

More evidence I made the right move in 2012 when I ditched Apple and AT&T and got a Samsung Galaxy S3 on Verizon. Been android only ever since, and I'm never going back.

2007 Original iPhone (AT&T)
2008 iPhone 3G (AT&T)
2010 iPhone 4 (AT&T)
2012 Samsung Galaxy S3 (Verizon) (with CyanogenMod)
2013 LG G2 (Verizon) (with Cyanogenmod)
2014 Motorola Droid Turbo (Verizon)
2015 (briefly for a trip to Brazil) Asus Zenfone 2 (Claro)
2016 Google Nexus 5x (Google Project Fi)
2016 Google Pixel (Sailfish) (Google Project Fi)

I've also had two tablets in all this time:
2013 Google Nexus 7 (2013 version) (with LineageOS towards the end)
2018 LG G Pad X 8.0 (LineageOS)

In the early days smartphones started feeling slow and old after about a year after launch. This was particularly annoying since all contract plans were based on a 2 year cycle.

These days we are beyond that. A good smartphone can - performance wise - last for several years. The limiting factor is when they stop getting security updates. With a little luck you then have a phone that has LineageOS support, and you can continue using it almost indefinitely

My Pixel is getting ever closer to being two years old (well, in 4-5 months) and it is showing no signs what so ever of getting tired. I hope that when Google ends security patches that LineageOS will eb officially supported on it. I see no point in upgrading.

When I finally am forced to get a new phone, I'll buy a used unlocked international version of a previous gen Samsung, and put LineageOS on it.

And, I went completely off track with that rabbit hole... Sorry.

Apple blocks an app that would give access to apps that Apple doesn't sell nor ever could sell because they simply are not compatible. Sounds about like them.

Why you think there's no emulators on the Apple store? They don't want another ecosystem to compete with theirs. Steam Link is like an ecosystem within an ecosystem. It's the reason why for me owning an Apple product is like owning worthless shit.

Eh. There is a reason why Apple is worth almost a trillion dollars.

People love to overpay for things if they can use them as weapons in the 'keeping up with the Joneses' war. Apple tapped into that beautifully.

I have a MacBook Pro (2015) that runs like a champ since day one. Pretty slick machine compared to PC laptops I’ve owned. Worth every penny.

And I have an iPhone 8 Plus. I’ve ventured to Android and didn’t like it. Personal preference really. But I’m not all Apple. Love my Ryzen based PC I built.

So for some, like myself, it’s not about keeping up with the Joneses’.

I have a Lenovo X61 Thinkpad from 2007, I put an ssd in it, runs like a champ. Even the keyboard still works.

I don[t personally trust Lenovo since IBM sold it to the Chinese, but I have a Dell Latitude E 6430s that is running like a champ. Sure, it is thicker than most modern laptops, but who gives a shit. It has a better keyboard, and I can easily swap and upgrade batteries, drives, RAM and wireless mini-PCIe cards in it to keep it updated.

Shiny thin devices are overrated.

My 13" Sony VAIO R505 still works like a champ, too... :p

If you are playing Steam games, then you more than likely are playing on a Windows computer, not a Apple computer. True, there are around 4,500 Apple games on Steam. But, how well do they play against their Windows equivalent?

And, to think, once upon a time (at least 25 years ago), the Macs were a better gaming machine than the PCs. However, because the folks at Apple wanted the Mac to be taken seriously as a business machine, they didn't focus on the gaming part.
