Battlefield V

Things that kill modern BF games is the fact that they are built primarily for consoles first and with that comes the restrictions on design, chiefly map size and terrain detail. Coming from PC games like ARMA 3 (which is now 5 years old) and even PUBG to any Battlefield game just highlights the painful fact that EA caters to the lowest common denominator and any version of Battlefield we get will be a watered down one. Go play King of the Hill for ARMA 3 with vehicles + infantry enabled (which usually only takes advantage of a small portion of Altis) and then imagine a Battlefield game with a map of that scale and it would be breathtaking.

The very first thing you see in the new trailer is a fucking Xbox logo which automatically kills any desire to play this game. What I'd like to see (and never will until consoles die out) is a Battlefield game that can take advantage of modern PCs with huge open maps where you can let loose with vehicles like airplanes/tanks without constantly running into those shitty red zones like in the recent Battlefield games. If I had to describe how it feels to play a Battlefield game (as a primarily PC gamer), it's like swimming in a fish bowl.

Given the fact that the PC gaming market is worth billions now and growing, it is time publishers like EA went back and started designing games for the PC first with consoles as a secondary platform or even create an alternate version of the game for consoles rather than a one size fits all design. Remember Battlefield 2? There was the PC version and then there was BF2: MC for consoles.

BF4 maps were fine size wise for Conquest Large and TDM/Domination. When it gets bigger than that you have little to gain in return. I found 45-48 players per team to be perfect for Conquest Large. Once it gets bigger it becomes too spread out. The problem with BF1 is the maps were less open overall in terms of player flow and catered much more to infantry.

That chick reminds me of the tool sharpening guy in the factory I used to work in for a month. He had one hand or arm and a claw grip no way could he still fight in WWII. Also when I was a cub scout we went to Random people's houses this guy invited me into his house he had a claw arm just like that I sold him two pizzas I think. I'm not even sure if I delivered them to him pretty scary stuff but I didn't think much of it or if
he was in WWII or just an accident.

EA is like Hey we just did Battlefield 1 what comes next Battlefield 5 !!!! we must remain true to History I guess I need to wait two years for a Modern Battlefield game.

Man I AM SO HYPED...WOOOOO WOOOOO

I hope we get Vietnam DLC featuring gender neutral cross dressing lady bois that have bright red baboon asses!

Also, this better come stuffed with PTW features and impossible grinding for competitive weapons
otherwise I am totally gonna go with COD "Fuck Your Mother Warfuck 3"

Not really, I will be playing BF4 still.....sigh

if those things dpi listed are true, I'm a little hyped. I wanted slower gameplay than bf1. and thats what it looks like they are going to do.

48p conquest large 60hz classic mode was the sweet spot in BF4, too bad it was not that popular amongst the players ( 4-6 populated servers in europe tops )

want full authenticity and realism ? follow Post Scriptum on steam, it doesn't get more real than that !! personally speaking, I want to preorder both :D

Confirmed for triggered

What if the next game is Vietnam and that "love you long time" prostitute from Full Metal Jacket is a playable character?

Deter from Sprockets confirmed as DLC skin.

Decision to pre-order has been postponed. Pre-pre order canceled.

Edit: Can you drive an aircraft carrier off the map?

the trailer was pretty terrible but i won't judge the game based on that or before i've had a chance to try it myself. the list DPI posted includes some really cool changes and ideas. i've had fun with every battlefield game i've played, no reason to believe this one will be any different. looking forward to playing the beta.

It looks like more like a frostbite engined Far Cry than a WW2 Battlefield game.

Of course, EA is a company and wants to attract the immature audience who wants the billions options of character optimization. But i hoped that, especially after BF1, BFV (what's this nonsense with the V/5 - it should be called BF2) would be more dark and would use more tarnish color pallet. WW2 has been the deadliest and most important war in Europe. You (EA) can't use Fortnite's bright colors and COD/PUBG's style characters in a Battlefield game. Battlefield should be an encyclopedia formed in FPS game. Not a happy colored circus for attracting immature fifteeners.

BFV (what's this nonsense with the V/5 - it should be called BF2)

it would have to be "Battlefield 2 (2018)" like what Medal of Honor did in 2010. i don't particularly care what they call it but to me there's only one BF2 :D

DICE has announced that it will be partnering with Nvidia for the PC version of Battlefield V...the game will feature Nvidia platform features...these 'Nvidia-platform features' could hint at some GameWorks features (or perhaps support for Ansel and Freestyle), though the companies did not provide any additional details

Probably physx, ect. Well, that sucks for AMD users.

Gary Oldman's Darkest Hour Churchill confirmed as playable class. Left mouse button drinks scotch. Right mouse puffs cigar. Neville Chamberlain's "mustache of appeasement" confirmed as DLC weapon which results in instant surrender and end of round.

Jackfrags was advocating making animations like duck/cover etc not visible to enemies and I think he's stupid for suggesting that. Every other new game like PUBG etc have animations that are global so as long as you can't repetitively abuse an animation, it should be completely visible to everyone. I feel like JackFrags is probably one of those dudes that likes sniping and thinks the animation meta will kill his K/D.

Found these both worth a watch; definitely more optimistic about the game after some of the comments from the people that were at the 3 hour press-only event saying the trailer didn't really represent gameplay.

Mechanical trailer breakdown by Jackfrags (actually all three of his BFV videos are full of good info):

Historical trailer breakdown by Flakfire (muh historical accuracy)

If what JackFrags is stating about the game being more of "hardcore tactical shooter and Battlefield games of old" and "pace way slower" turns out true, then that's very promising.

Those clowns in general are trend followers and will say anything to get more likes and followers (its literally their job). A reveal that has received some notably negative reception? They'll go against the grain because it stands out. Angry Joe in particular is an idiot who will lap up whatever has the most pretty explosions in it and slap a "bad ass" sticker of approval on it. I'd wait for some gameplay or use common sense before listening to a paid talking head like them.

Sounds to me like these guys are paid shills hyping up a turd. If the game is so great, why didn’t EA make this 3 hour reveal public rather than behind closed doors with their hand picked YouTube/Twitch shills who will dance like a circus monkey when shown a few dollars? I’m not buying it, I’ll believe it when I play test it myself.

Seen trailer game looks impressive to the core but little bit low on expectations as I was expecting it to be in future but they went back to WWII this time.

Franchise peaked at BC2. This is coming from some who put a hundred hours into the 1942 demo.

Couldn't agree more. BF3 was the start of the decline, introducing crappy gameplay elements like long drawn out prone animations to make even the best players get randomly killed by noobs. BF4 was practically unplayable to me, barely put a days worth of play into that before just walking away.

Haven't been back to BF since, so hoping Dice will take opportunity with V to bring it back to it's roots.

No way that low ammo thing doesn't get patched out.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder how many fortifications will get built if you still get sniped from across the map. It's hard enough to get meds and ammo as it is now in bf1 . If you start out with little ammo, you will be out of luck.

That's a weirdly angry take on it, but okay. FWIW, I've watched jackfrags videos off and on since the early BF3 days in 2011 and never known him to outright lie or make things up. So if even half of the exhaustive changes list that I posted is true, it's pretty encouraging to me since I still find myself going back to BF games often enough.

I realize there are some people that will be angry no matter what DICE does, either because the game doesn't conform to their personal hierarchy of needs, or some single issue like "they took away our modz" or "I want to run my own server in my garage so I can play god", but for everyone else not still living in a bygone era, it seems there's potentially going to be a lot to like.

There’s nothing angry about my skepticism. I couldn’t careless about personal run servers but what I tend not to believe is all the prelaunch hype before DICE releases a game. Judging by their recent track record, it’s been a big let down therefore when I see this hyperbole of it being “MINDBLOWING” my bs meter goes through the roof.

Oh brother! I was on the fence whether I was going to buy this because I really would like to play another WWII FPS, but I just found out Trevor Noah is involved, I was even going to resist my disgust for EA and give it a chance but now that I find out that this waste of skin is involved, that's a HELL NO.

Skepticism directed at these youtube shills is completely warranted, they have repeatedly proven that they are nothing but corporate mouthpieces when it comes to AAA releases from EA and Activision. JackFrags in particular is thoroughly untrustworthy, you will be hard pressed to find any video commentary leading up to a BF release in which he does anything but make excuses for DICE's terrible design decisions.

On an interesting note, the BFV reveal trailer is getting reamed on youtube....238K up votes vs 227K down votes. I don't normally bother reading youtube comments because the community is a dumpster fire of trash talking trolls, but some of them on this video are certainly lolworthy.

You know. This game is 100% historically accurate. My grandpa and grandma met when the two of them were fighting alongside each other on D-Day, grandpa just picked up a katana he found on the ground after nearly getting hit from a jeep falling from the sky, when in the corner of his eye he caught sight of a woman with hot pink face paint and a prothstetic leg. He wandered over to her, completely ignoring his friends call for medical attention, he could just get a fake leg after all. The two of them jumped on the nearest tank they found, my grandma driving it and my grandpa hanging from the top, one had firing a MG42 and in the other painting some new emblems on his jacket, all the while blasting out the, to use their exact wording "Sick beats", on the radio. Once they reached wherever they were going they found a teddybear and just strapped it on the tank cos why not. "Yo, you see that shit" yelled my grandpa as he shot down a plane with all of six bullets, but she couldnt hear him as she was busy bludgeoning someone to death with a baseball bat . Unfortunately because there were no distinctive uniforms on the soldiers then and the 'Nazis' didn't have swastikas on their uniforms, it was only when the fighting had calmed down did my grandma realise my grandpa was German! "Bloody Hell old friend" She said, since she was a stereotypical British person after all. They cover it up now though, just say my grandma worked in a munitions factory and my grandpa just hung around with a few disgusting white males in some wet soggy trenches. Glad to see their true stories are now being told.

That's a great story, maybe someone should make a video game about that....

Another comment which I totally agree with

"As a WWII buff this is just disgusting there is so much material they had to work with, they could have gone for a realistic gripping narrative. There are countless memoirs of soldiers experience they could have used. And if they wanted to show a British cripple kicking ass they should have put Douglas Bader in the game a RAF ace with no legs. Or how about jack Churchill he used a long sword and bow on D-day. Or tell the story of Witold Pilecki he volunteered to go to auschwitz and spy for the polish underground government".

---Instead, we get red headed British "Bloody Hell", robot arm femjobs. They got one thing right, it is "Mindblowing".

LOL that comment is great! I'm surprised they haven't introduced the obligatory gay love story in Battlefield yet - shit I bet I just gave EA an idea. And I'm right there with you about JackFrags, the guy is full of shit.

Russian female sniper in appropriate attire? Okay. British woman on the front lines, with war paint and is missing a fucking arm? Cartoon shit. Then you have that Neo Nazi looking skin head with face tattoos. Its a WWII game with Europe, there are real Nazis. We don't need half the player base running around looking like some meth-head Neo Nazi or some lady missing half her body. It reminds me of the cringey R6S female character who has her nails done, wears make up and tight jeans into combat.

While I agree, Battlefield sort of lost the "realism" idea back in BF2 when players started the jump out of a plane at full speed, turn around, shoot an RPG at another plane and land back in their own and fly off. Hell even 1942 let you prone on the wings, and Desert Combat had some quirks but at least that is all they were back then. Now its a feature.

If the game can handle that and players are cool 5 iterations in, why the fuss about some women characters for the 6th? It became an arcade shooter many many years ago and this fits in perfectly with that.

There is a difference between realism and authenticity, up until now DICE has claimed it strives for authenticity whilst balancing the difficulties that realism presents to creating a fun video game experience. They have said as much in numerous interviews over the years:

https://www.pcauthority.com.au/feat...gnus-responds-to-activision-flak-275293/page2

Atomic: Playing the PC version, there seemed to be a real emphasis on realism, particularly with physicality and movement. How do you balance realism with the fun?

Karl-Magnus: It’s a very think line to walk. Actually, our goal isn’t to create realism. The word we have up on the wall is ‘authenticity’. Because it’s about what you perceive as being real; this is how I perceive sitting inside an Abrams tank or whatever. It doesn’t have to be exactly real. Naturally, we use tonnes of real-world reference material in every way. To us, there’s a difference between those words. To us, we’re not creating a simulator; we’re creating a fun game. We’re not creating a realistic game; we’re creating an authentic game that is fun to play. So that is very important for us. As an example, we can’t have the jets fly at proper jet speed. That would mean ZOOM and they’re gone. And they would just drop laser-guided bombs and everyone would die immediately. That would break all the fun. So we have to slow them down to unrealistic speed levels to make the whole system work; the whole rock, paper, scissors design system that we have.

https://www.engadget.com/2011/03/02/battlefield-3-frostbite-2-engine-interview/

Given the focus on visual realism, I wondered if there would be an increased emphasis on realism through the gameplay. The brief demo of single player showed a campaign with far more gravitas than a Bad Company game. The game's reference films -- Hurt Locker, Generation Kill, Black Hawk Down -- show a more "adult" approach to storytelling. And, EA's other FPS franchise, Medal of Honor (which featured multiplayer developed by DICE), was marketed as a more realistic alternative to other popular shooters. "Authenticity is very important for all Battlefield games ... but it's always fun first. If it's not fun, then there's no point."

More to the point, those particular trick videos you refer to are not representative of gameplay for 99% of players, they are ridiculous orchestrated scenarios designed to exploit the non-realistic aspects of the game engine......definitely not features or advertised as such. This is DICE and EA injecting their politics into a video game....plain and simple. Observing DICE's devs backtrack whilst also tarring their customers as raving hardcore misogynists and white supremacists is mildly amusing though.

The suspension of reality/realism/authenticity/whatever you want to call it, isn't limited to "trick videos" or "1% of players". Everyone's died and respawned 60 seconds later, hidden behind a wall to auto-heal or had a nearby medpack magically fix hundreds of bullet wounds. Everyone's used a jet to get across the map or up onto a tower at some point. Anyone can jump out of a building, hold down E and instantly enter a vehicle below. The "muh realism" argument is total bullshit. The "Injecting their SJW politics" is also bullshit. The reddit brigade rolling face across the keyboard about "wimin in combat" and suddenly pretending to care about "historical accuracy" based on a TV-education about WW2 is laughable. "Why was the trailer so over saturated when the real world war 2 was black and white". SMFH.

By all, means let's have a "REALIZZTIC" WW2 game:

- Boot game up
- Sit at loading screen for six months
- Play game for 30 seconds and get shot
- Game uninstalls itself.

Observing DICE's devs backtrack whilst also tarring their customers as raving hardcore misogynists and white supremacists is mildly amusing though.

And you have a link to that?

Cuz REALISM, maaan.

My grandad fought, died, and respawned in World War II. He was awarded a commendation for 1000 machine gun kills, and once singlehandedly held point C against two tanks by bunnyhopping through the shells. He left behind a SICK glacier camo skin and a fully levelled-up Johnson M1941.
