MacBook and MacBook Pro models have come under heavy scrutiny lately for being a huge dumpster fire when it comes to the keyboard. Apparently these hipster ghoombahs using these Macs are getting gluten free crumbs all under the keys on the keyboard rendering them useless. Maybe they should ask mommy to come clean it for them? JK! However, this is not a laughing matter as the second class action lawsuit has been filed over this issue.

Like the first lawsuit last week, this complaint alleges that small amounts of dust or debris accumulating on 2015-and-later MacBook and 2016-and-later MacBook Pro keyboards can render the butterfly switch mechanism underneath individual keys non-functional, according to court documents obtained by MacRumors.

All it takes is dust to prevent the key from working properly. I had one and sold it just because of the crappy keyboard.

That's not possible, Apple makes the most premium products! I've had numerous fanboys assure me the price premium is 100% worth it because they are so well designed and built!

In all seriousness if you want to see some funny shit on this and other Apple construction issues, check out Louis Rossman's Youtube channel. Dude makes a living doing electronics repairs and is rather unfiltered in his speech :D.

I've honestly liked the macbook for years. But around the 2015 refresh it became a serious piece of shit and yes mostly due to that keyboard. I used to support mac/PC environments and the macbook was the only laptop that could natively run BOTH OSX and Win 7 and that held a great deal of value to me. Unfortunately it has just gotten more and more anti consumer since then and I would be hard pressed to recommend one even for the kind of environment I worked.

I like Louis and subscribe to his channel. However, he does have a serious Apple bias. Just like my Microsoft and Google products, I've had Apple products fail. Also, I've had devices from each company last multiple years without a problem. As he repairs Apple products for a living, he certainly finds the common/weak points (like the current keyboard). I do think he goes a little overboard on the Apple hate, though. At least when I call them I speak with an American (or excellent English speaking person). NONE of the other companies give me that with the exception of my Dell business products that I was able to pay for North American support on.

So is this another case of "user using it wrong?" if not will we see one more 999 billion (yes 999 billion) lawsuit against apple. I See the necessity of this, but perhaps the litigation will not be so greedy and actually accomplish what is needed in this case, slapping apple upside the head on their stupid design choice.

He makes a living repairing electronics, not just Apple stuff, Apple is just what he does the most of, what brings home the bacon. Why? Their shit is really expensive, so people can't just afford to replace it as they might with another brand. They are willing to spend the cash on a repair. Also you can't usually get parts on your own. Combine that with a warranty that isn't stellar (only a year by default, and you can only extend it up to 3) and just average build quality and there you go.

This shit teaches you how to be more civilized.... don't eat cookies at your keyboard, and clean your damn dirty dusty room so that dust doesn't get under the keys.

Not eating cookies at my keyboard is like not being able to breathe...man.

Also, you shouldn't post anymore, I think 666 is the right number for you, you evil blasphemous man.

Hell, just today for a customer I ordered a replacement keyboard for a $275 dell laptop made a couple of years ago. It's missing keys it was abused so badly. If all the keys have the amount of hair and crud that I can see under the missing ones, this guy would have had an Apple keyboard fail in the first WEEK. :)

Not to mention, the keyboard was a whopping $18. The power jack only cost half that but will take 10 times longer to fix.

So, how much does a new Apple keyboard and power jack cost to acquire? Oh wait... good luck getting them.

lol, I love Kyle's news posts " Apparently these hipster ghoombahs using these Macs are getting gluten free crumbs all under the keys on the keyboard"

Yeah. It's great. Kind of reminds me of the good old days back on VE3D.

I bought a 17 MBP and had it for a little under a month before I had to return it. The key press feel is so shit, and then I read about all the issues with the keyboard. Instant return for me after that given that it was $3k. They need to think about some of their engineering choices.

Um a 17 inch MBP hasn't been made in YEARS. You are full of sh** . Any 17 inch MBP you would have purchased wouldn't have had this keyboard issue. Don't make sh** up to bash Apple. The last 17inch made would have been with the old butterfly mech., which is what Im typing on now (Which is great)..

I want these types of laptop keyboards to make a comeback.

I'd trade device thickness for a good keyboard with full key travel any time. Even better if they made it buckling spring :p

Everyone has hated these new keyboard since they created them, yet Apple keeps insisting they are right and every one of their users are wrong and forcing them down their throats. This is the problem w/ Apple now, they believe they know better than their users and are bull-headed about it. No matter how many lawsuits, they will never admit they're wrong and will now keep forcing this exact keyboard on everyone until they are proven right.

... and yet, a fuck ton of people keep buying macbooks. Why is that?

apple outsells a bunch of laptop manufacturers. It's like users are gluttons for punishment.

Last 17" MBP was back in 2011 with a 2nd or perhaps 3rd gen Core processors. Once Retina series came out, they killed off the fat 15 and 17 inch MBP models.

I didnt mean 17 in I meant the 2017 15" MBP. I am not an apple hater, far from it (you can check my posts if you want) but I am a realist and when one of their product sucks I say it.

I'll admit I didn't read the article, but what did apple to that they can be sued for? I don't think releasing a poorly designed product is a crime. If they are blowing out the keyboards with some duster under warranty and giving customer's back functioning computers aren't they set?
