Last time that happened was the Fermi refresh, when the 580 was only 10% faster than the 480. Even the 780 was 20% faster than the 680 with the Kepler refresh. Volta/Ampere/Turing or whatever microarchitecture the next gen will be using is a new one on a smaller node, so I would expect at least a 30% bump from the 1080 to 1180.Can we please skip the 1180 this year and go right to the Ti version? Ain't nobody got time for 10% performance bumps
They started doing this with Pascal, and we still got factory overclocked cards from every AIB.The 3rd-party deliver steps is interesting to see. Espectially the following:
...If the board passes Green Light, a Partner Production (PP) VBIOS will be provided by NVIDIA.
I always thought the AIB created/tweaked the vbios. If I'm understanding this step, it means the final vbios is provided to the AIB from Nvidia. I suppose this means nV has tighter control over what's getting to the consumer. On one hand, this sounds good as it means an AIB isn't going to release an unstable vbios (unless nV screws it up); on the negative side, nV could potentially limit performance and play favorites among AIBs.

You're right. We should wait for a 12% gain. Can we please skip the 1180 this year and go right to the Ti version? Ain't nobody got time for 10% performance bumps
I just laugh that they keep comparing the 1180 to the 1080....to make it look good, its hardly any faster than the 1080ti by the looks of it
Not sure why they don’t feel like they can compare to the TI, that’s the current fastest card and that’s all I’m interested in knowing how it performs against, so far it does look like the 1180ti will be the one to wait on
Then he's doing it wrong.he was measuring 10% from a 1080ti to 1180 not a 1080 to a 1180.
Which is why I said "Fermi refresh" and "Kepler refresh." The performance jumps during the 3-generation reign of Tesla were even lower. The reason why it was only 10% was because the 480 and 580 GTX were the same chip. The 780 to 980 was a different chip, Just like the 980 to 1080 was a different chip. And just like 1080 to the rumored 1180 chip will be too.

"In terms of pricing, whispers say that NVIDIA is looking to charge more for the GTX 1180 as compared to the GTX 1080, with some sources quoted as saying to expect a price tag of around $699"
don't hold your breath for that low a price on the street because that may be MSRP but we know the GTX 1070 was $350 MSRP and sold for more and that was before the mining craze hit. I'm guessing it will cost $760 to $799 for the first year with left over stock GTX 1080's like EVGA FTW holding at $600
Tom's using WCCFTech as their source
LOL @ the Comment section,
"I already know the names of all the upcoming GPUs.
GTX 1180 Wallet Hurting Edition
GTX 1170 A Little Easier On The Wallet Edition
GTX 1160 Wish I Could Afford One Of The Higher Editions Edition
GTX 1150 Poor B*stards Edition
And there you have it, folks. The suspense is over!".
Anyways, I'll believe it when I see it. As for AMD cards? Who knows, when pigs fly?
And then the elusive one becomes available: 1180Ti Fuck Your Retirement Saving Edition
That was already released, as the Titan V, now when they release a $2000 GPU we'll all rejoice at how it's 33% cheaper than the $3000 gpu!
The 1080Ti used a different chip, much larger die, it was basically a Titan lite. The 1180 will be a replacement for the 1080 using the small die, so that's the best comparison.I just laugh that they keep comparing the 1180 to the 1080....to make it look good, its hardly any faster than the 1080ti by the looks of it

Why do people keep throwing 10% around? The cores in Turing are different than Volta and Pascal. If Titan V is your baseline you are doing it wrong. Turing is a different set of cores.
I'm starting to think my 1080ti are the 2600k of vid cards...
