Acer’s Predator X27 has finally gone up for preorder at Newegg. The display will be one of the first to grant gamers the privilege of 4K at 144Hz, with 1,000 nits of peak brightness and NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology. Unfortunately, the “holy grail of monitors” does not come cheap: it will ship on June 1 for $2,000.

The initial displays bearing AMD’s FreeSync 2 technology max out at 600 nits of brightness, for comparison, and the Samsung CHG70 we’ve tested only hits 144Hz and 1440p resolution. It’s one of the best monitors I’ve used, and “only” costs $700, but it can’t come close to matching the specs of these G-Sync HDR displays.

2K for the very first one ever? That's actually fairly promising for future prices.

$2,000 is crazy for a 27". $1,000 would seem more in line with the size and features this thing offers.

Now the rumored 200hz HDR Ultrawides coming from ASUS / ACER (eventually)... Just maybe.

...just wait five years.... my 2K 27" GSync monitor is doing just fine.

I pre ordered mine yesterday. Been using an Acer Predator X34 for the past 2 years. Its 34" widescreen 21:9 3440x1440 100hz. For the distance I sit it's much too big. I find myself only really utilizing the size when I play games like Rocket League which use my controller and I can sit further back. Games like Overwatch which I spend a lot of time on don't even support 21:9 so I am stuck with a 27" monitor anyways which agian for the distance I sit actually takes up most of my view. I hear the UI scaling for 4k in Windows 10 has gotten much better so I am not worried about 4k on a 27". Selling my X34 to a friend for $550 (I picked it up for $729 refurbished) combine that with ebates and cash back on my creditcard I'm out a lot less than 2k. To the folks who don't understand why it's so expensive, a lot of the cost is due to the 384 FALD zones, this isn't some cheap edge lit solution and it costs a lot to manufacture. My hopes are high and for this price I will be pretty picky. I plan on testing this monitor for a few weeks, if it grows on me I will keep it for at least 5 years, if not it's going back for a refund. Looking forward to the 1180 series to power this too.

It's expensive because the pixel density is fucking ridiculously small and that is very difficult to manufacture at that size, plus it's a super niche monitor that isn't going to benefit from economies of scale, it basically has the pixel density of a 55" 8k TV.

If the color accuracy is good, this may be a nice upgrade for cad too.

Im really happy with my AOC 27 inch IPS 144 hz. 2560 x 1440 is plenty of real estate for me.

32" is like the bare minimum for 4k. Good luck with the eye strain, whoever tries scaling.

Actually those are about $500 more than this (for the 2017 model, the 2018 65" is like $3500). To get under $2k you would have to get the 2017 55" model. Now when it hits ~$1200, I might bite.
Nope, the $500 more are the 2018s. at $2500. They are not $3500.

comes in stock every other week or so. 55" is $1999 for 2018.

for 2017 same thing, its been like this for 6 months ~$1200 55" ~$1900 (or less) 65":

Sure, its probably closer to MSRP if you don't try to shop.

The 65" 2018s are $3500 and the 55" 2018s are $2500. Past deals (especially Ebay) don't count and all of those links now all show over $2k. Show me any manufacturer authorized reseller for any regular pricing on any 65" 2017 or 2018 OLED for $2k or less.

Price is bananas. Anyone who shells out this cash for this price is nutz. Unless you have it I guess....:(

uhhhhh, they don't show over $2k.
Beachcamera and the other store they own are authorized resellers. which I've linked. which sell the 65" 2017 for $1899. I've personally got my 65" 2017 from them (authorized) for $1999 in Jan. 4 Months later they're still running the deal but at $1899.

If you can't shop you cant shop. They've been on slickdeals every single week for that price. Bestbuy/amazon isn't the only place in the world.

I'll probably get one, but not from New Egg. The main thing is their return policy for hot new products can be lacking, and when it comes to monitors, they have, what I find, to be unreasonable. I'm sorry, for a couple grand, I expect nothing short of perfection. 1 dead pixel is 5 too many.

Sorry honey, I couldn't afford to pay the mortgage this month. But check out this sweet monitor I got! And no, the box is not big enough for us to live in.

Been waiting since 2017 CES for this. Well actually the 200Hz 4k HDR GSync ROG SWIFT PG35VQ or Asus Predator Z35.

lmao i love to splurge no doubt , but 2k on this thing this joke lol please . . . Ive had some of best screens ever designed be it tv or monitors, I ll let someone else feed the 27 4k short lived trend bus on this one

This is insane. "Proper" 4K HDR (IPS type, high refresh rates, local dimming with many varied zones, high max brightness, 10 bit panel etc) monitors start showing up and they're a year late, stuck to 27", using GSync which by all rights should be outmoded, and to cap it all of are priced astronomically high? What the hell is going on?

I know some will say "early adopter tax" and whatnot and maybe in 2016 or 2017 that would have been true, but this tech has been proving itself for quite awhile now often on TVs and while I don't expect it to be dirt cheap, I do think they could do better. I'd love to see a high spec, high-refreshb (ie 120hz+) HDR 4K monitor at 30-35" and having options for FreeSync 2 and/or HDMI 2.1 VRR / Display Port AdaptiveSync. Getting away from the GSync tax would be a good starting point, but really we've been waiting a long time for this tech, getting pushed back and pushed back from the monitor market, to arrive. Asking for $2000 seems asinine where say, replacing earlier generation high end 4Ks at $600-1000 instead would be far more reasonable.

1440p is as much as I want to shrink to 27". My LG 31" cinema 4k 10 bit monitor looks amazing for the size but I have to give some credit to the unusually high quality panel used. I've got 2 Asus monitors(27"/1080p/120hz/3d/v-sync, and 27"/1440p/144hz/3d/g-sync). Both look fine for what they are but neither give me confidence that Asus is going to make a quality leap into 4k for that size.

Too small, too expensive, and frankly useless without a mythical GPU to drive it. For that amount of money I'd be far more inclined to get a nice 65", or larger, 4k T.V.

I bought my 55" LG OLED for a little over $2000...HDR computer monitors should not cost the same price as an OLED TV

2000$ Phhhh sorry I laughed too hard at that. You can get an OLED for that much money. HDR display technology without per pixel control of lighting is a joke. Enjoy the artifacts.
At 144hz I doubt it will be a fancy new panel either and will still only have a native contrast of maybe 1-2000:1
