If you're in the market for a new smartphone you might want to hold out a bit and take in the specs of the new ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1. This bad boy has 6" of screen real estate running with a resolution of 1800X2160. It's using the new Snapdragon 636 and comes with a massive 5,000 mAh battery. Also, it has a dual-lens camera system for those of you that take a lot of pictures. This bad boy comes out in Malaysia the end of this month and will start to roll out to other countries after that. Check out the tech video.

Watch the video here.

The eponymous feature is, of course, its large 5,000 mAh battery. That is the battery capacity of most power banks, giving you up to 35 days of 4G standby and 42 hours of 3G talk time! It also allows you to play games for up to 12 hours, or watch up to 20 hours of YouTube videos.

I had the ZF2, I told myself I'll never buy another ZenFone again. To this day it is still the worst phone I ever had.

I'll need actual usage reviews before I even consider buying another one of their phones.

I love what they have been doing for a few years (big battery phones) but they could improve a few things
a. great they hit emerging markets, but maybe make an open carrier phone for the states
b. try to enroll in google's program so it gets constant updates
c. like TwiceOver said... often it sounds awesome to me but maybe fails in practice

Google "faa powerbank" and check out the phone and other lithion incidents.

That is a big battery under the hood. Now by going to such a large battery, wonder if they are more concerned about battery swelling. If a normal 3000mAh was to swell 3% (random number) then scale up to a 5000mAh, now your talking even more distance for the case to swell.

Had an old Android that liked to swell up if charged too fast.

I like how they tout 17+ hrs of viewing time for streaming media, 17.3hrs streaming Game of Thrones. But then on their versus against the redmi note 5 it died after "only" 12hrs 52mins of streaming media. Marketing meet product, product meet marketing.

I was mostly satisfied with my ZF2 (the one with the atom cpu). But I'm not a huge smartphone user so maybe that helped.
The thing that pissed me off the most was that it was supposed to get 6.0 and never got more then a very buggy beta (from what I read, never installed it)
But at least, while it was still supported, it would get fairly quick and frequent update, unlike any carrier phone I've dealt with.

Back when I got my ZF they were pretty cheap compared to the competition and made sense, now not so much imo.

Now I've just updated to a xiaomi mi a1 with update managed by google and I'm slowly starting to use my phone slightly more then before since its more responsive and android 8.0 is a whole lot better then 5.0!

What is this garbage, my 3+ year old phone has a 2560x1440 6" screen. Ok, it only has a 4000 battery, but it's a 2014 model ffs.

I bought a Huawei P 10. It was strangely cheap with Virgin, here in BC, and I wanted a nicer camera.

Damn its a great phone. The Leica 20Mpix B&W camera, one of 2, the other being a 12Mpix Leica device, is very nice indeed. I ran a 4x5 at one time so I do have some knowledge of nice B&W.

The screen at 2160x1080 is great and a 4000 mAh battery is wonderful. Rocking 6G of Ram and an SD slot with the HiSilicon Kirin 970 octa core for power is just sweet. Fast, real fast, and the fingerprint sensor is maybe the best there is.

Too bad most of you live in America where its a CSD (Chinese Spying Device) and you can't have one. I find this to be very funny indeed.

Its pricing is $166-238. How much did you pay for your flagship 4 years ago? $800ish?

I cracked the screen of my Lenovo P2, so I'm looking for a new phone. I'm trying to decide between the Asus Max Pro and the Nokia 7 Plus.
I'm leaning towards the Nokia, because of Android One and the 802.11ac support. However, it costs almost 2x as much as the Asus, lacks a notification LED and has a smaller battery.

I wonder why none of these have a LED display?
It's not bad to save on the black pixels, even with a large battery and it would make even more sense with the Nokia 7 Plus where you can only get visual notifications via the Always On Display.

Because lazy tech reviewers are obsessed with silly things like "ooh, they have one percent more screen-to-body ratio than <insert competitor here>" and face unlock than they are with features that actually impact how you use your phone.

I don't need a 4k cell phone screen. Give me 1080p and a massive battery for all the battery life.

This guy gets it. I've got the ZF3 Zoom and have zero complaints. Massive battery, good enough screen, great camera.

Heck, give me 720p on a 4.5" screen, a la the Xperia Compact lineup, and I'm happy.
