Destiny 2

At least a few of my friends (unfortunately all are on the Xbox) have gone back to the game and are enjoying themselves. I kinda figured mysteries and multi-step grinds were what a lot of people really wanted.

Not sure if it was tied to the DLC update or weekly refresh, but I got a new set of collection missions. It involves killing 25 enemies with a javelin followed by a Heroic version of a "kill all the psions" mission. I figured it would be no problem, but it's insanely hard at level 345. The enemies are bullet sponges with quickly regenerating shields and it takes all day for you to regain your health. I ended up giving up after barely being able to scratch the enemies at the end. I must've run around for 10 minutes landing pitter pat shots and only taking one (of several) psions down to 1/2 life. It's especially rough because that's a no respawn point and you have to start all over if you die.

The rules say local chat is for players in an activity I think. But I wanted to check here just to be sure, you can't have chat with multiple people on a map who are just there on their own, right? They have to join some sort of group first?

I've managed to get the Huckleberry, Suros Regime, Wordline Zero, and G335 Sparrow. However, getting the Sleeper Simulant has become quite the pain. I haven't been part of a group that could take down a full set of Escalation Protocol enemies in nearly a week. You either need like 10 people or at least 5 people have to save their super, grenades, and full set of power ammo for that last Ogre. Even then you need some luck to do it in a minute. After completing 5 of them last weekend, I have had no luck since actually needing to complete them.

I've all but given up on that Psion mission that dropped on Tuesday. It takes like 40 precision hits from a level 350 Graviton Lance to take one of those guys out, and that doesn't even count shields.

I finally cleared the Heroic Psionic Potential mission, and there's a moderately easy way to cheese it. The Nightstalker's melee grenade that disorients enemies works wonders on Psions. It also regenerates almost instantly, too. You can keep the boss Psions in a loop where they're almost permanently disoriented.
I just keep using those followed by either the Skyburner's Oath or better yet, a sword. You occasionally still have to run like mad to get your health back and it takes a while, but it works. The key is to keep them from getting their shields back because they take tons and tons of rounds to take down.

The reward is super interesting. It's an energy scout rifle that offers no modification options (like an Exotic) and it also has a kinetic mod in it...which is backwards. Since this mission was listed as 2/5, something tells me there's something more to that rifle.

Thank you. I need all the help I can get for this. It's a PITA and I have always hated that "interia/momentum" concept. Hate it.

It's hard core grinding here and for that exotic weapon quest you get whose name slips my mind at the moment. (Do 5 heroic strikes. Brutal. I need to get stronger.)

It says you need to be power 370 for a lot of this stuff and I'm just shy of 350 and I feel like I've once yet again plateued. What can I do to get myself in better shape for this?

the weekly milestone rewards and the raids are the best way I think, I went from 445 to 454 this week thanks to the milestones

I'm still on a later version of that quest. It's for the Sleeper Simulant. I ended up doing that part of the quest at around 345. Those Heroic strikes are brutal as hell. About the only thing you can do is hope that other players try to revive you. Prior to Warmind one of the best strategies for strikes was to sprint like hell whenever possible. You can't really do that anymore. Enemies do a better job of swarming solo players and they kill you quickly. Just stick with your group and go slowly. Bosses are especially rough, so just do your best to stay close to players and revive them when possible. Don't be afraid to run like hell and let them come back via the 30 second timer, too. There are times where that's the best strategy. The worm fight being a prime example. That arena is bigger than it looks and you can hide behind some of the obstacles on the sides for 15-20 seconds at a time.
Once you do that portion, you'll be where I'm at. I had to open 15 of the musical caches (not as bad as it sounds) and win 3 escalation protocol rounds. I'm still trying to do that. I've done it twice. The key (IMO) is to attempt that after someone has gotten an interceptor from a Psion. Otherwise it takes like 8 people to take those damned ogres out at the end. With an interceptor you can do it with 4-5 as long as everyone uses their super and heavy ammo.
Oh yeah, worth mentioning - I'm only level 351. Just about nobody is over level 355.

just managed to get my 3 escalation protocols done for my sleeper quest, went to the bungie lfg and got into a 4man. We managed to win every second try, the linear fusion rifles rip the orge up fast (I use the tarantula). At level 354 each crit shot from it does 16k damage. The sleeper nodes are mind numbing for me lol, they always give you a node thats on the other side of the map from where you are, just opened #8, 7 to go but im done for now lol. I have to farm more events anyways as I wont have enough overrides to finish.

I ended up getting the Sleeper Simulant finally. I eventually just waited until I saw 6-7 people in the same area and kicked it off. I was lucky that enough people had rockets and active supers to get it done.
I nabbed the various sleeper nodes while shooting all of the symbols all over the map. I had like 50 of those tickets, so it shockingly wasn't that much of a grind.

I found a normal legendary drop that I really like, too. The Battle Scar is a full auto pulse rifle that handles shockingly well. It's not going to beat out the Vigilance Wing on even terms, but it's better than most others. It's also a full-on terrific PvE weapon with a huge magazine. Mine dropped with a masterwork magazine, which was even more of a bonus.

That's been the first new Legendary (other than the forced hand-cannon, which is okay) that I really like and plan to keep on me at all times.

After completing those quests and the "powerful weapons" missions for the week, it takes forever to gain levels. It's almost not even worth playing outside of messing around in the Crucible.

Finally got around to finishing the Nascent Dawn 2.5 quest. Really like the Scout Rifle you get and I am not really a fan of them.

That's the one I think is going to end up becoming something else. Maybe a legendary/exotic hybrid. It's odd that it has no customization options and it's seemingly in the wrong category.

I just played Will of the Thousand in Heroic Strike with that Ikelos pistol equipped and did NOT get credit for the mission. It's the last step of that quest to get the Sleeper Stimulant. I already had it equipped before I even came in.

What did I do wrong? I'm really pissed.

Someone told me that heroic strikes are still glitched? Even after that hotfix patch?

It took me 20 minutes or so to even finally get that heroic strike to come up and then 15 minutes or so for these two guys and I to get through it. All for shit.

This is the kind of thing that makes me people quit games and move on.

I don't think you play it as a Strike. For me it was a solo mission with a blue flag. The mission location isn't far from where you land on Mars, off to the left. Luckily I also don't think it's Heroic difficulty either. It's harder than normal, but I recall that Strike being a total motherfucker while I won the solo mission only dying once. I think I used the Nameless Midnight, IKELOS pistol, and the Colony at level 350.

Aww damn it. My brain fart. Complaint retracted.

I'm 347 at best and I can't see me getting this done solo based on what's happening so far. You got this 360 story mode version done by yourself? How did you (and others) do it? I definitely need to be stronger I think.

While I am enjoying the Warmind DLC, the grinding this time seems much more tedious.

Yup.

I hate to say this but I do regret not getting this game on the PS4 for one reason: I've got some regulars that I know who play on there and there's a much larger player base. No way would I have had the kinds of unecessary hang ups had I gotten it on there. At this point it's too late and there's no way I'm double dipping on this.

They made some lavish promises before launching the game, especially in regards to "solo players" but even past that, that simply have not come to pass.

They really should have allowed some sort of cross platform play, at least on a leash. Oh well.

I was at 350. Most of the time I use the Nameless Midnight. For me, it's at level 347. I just go slow and keep going for shots to the head area. It typically takes 3-4 rounds to kill most cabal troops and 2 for each Psion. Compared to that horrid Heroic 2/5 mission it's not too bad. I only swapped to the IKELOS pistol when my ammo drops below 50 for for the NM.
My power weapon is the Colony. I only used it a couple times on that level. Mainly for the two areas where there are wizards/knights and shitloads of enemies. You'll know 'em when you get to them. I used my super for one of those, too. I'm a Nightstalker and I use the super that binds enemies to the arrow.
The worm fight is a grind. Just keep shooting at its mouth, hide behind walls and pay super careful attention to when it starts crawling across the arena. Don't waste your super on it - save it for when it summons wizards, knights, ogres, etc. You can decimate those with it, but it barely hurts the worm. Most of your worm damage will come from javelins. The fight takes like 10 minutes, don't be afraid to run like hell here and there. Focus on the enemies more than the worm.

I'm using the Midas Scout at 353. I'll have to see if I have Nameless Midnight if it makes any difference. If I do have it, it would be lower than this. I realized my handy Better Devils weren't going to be quite the right fit for this.

I need to get this or see if I have it. If I do, then I've got to address the scout rifle issue.

Good tips. I'm dreading that by myself...if I can even get there. ;)

If you don't have Nameless Midnight, one of Ana Bray's weapons is incredibly similar - Niflheim Frost. In some ways it's actually better. It basically auto-pilots you toward headshots, but it lacks the tiny AOE hits that Nameless has. I haven't made up my mind which one I like more. I got it via one of the Warmind tokens in the musical caches. You might also go with the Vigilance Wing if you have it. If all 5 rounds in a burst hit, it probably hurts more than a scout. It definitely does in PvP.

The Colony just happens to be my strongest weapon (356), so that's why I use it. That and it's kind of idiot-proof. You fire in the general direction of something and the grenades track. A sniper with a large magazine or a fusion rifle should be equally good. Something that allows you to run like hell and hit from a distance.

Awesome I have that.

I am using a pretty nice sniper rifle at present. I know I can hit that damned thing in the mouth with it. If I have Colony I might switch over for grins.

You've given a lot of good help over time in this thread. Hope I can pay back the favor one of these days. :)

Hopefully you can pull it off. I didn't think it was that horrible. I struggled mightily with the Heroic Psion mission, but this one felt like only a little bit tougher than a normal mission. I'm glad it didn't involve the other Mars strike, which I feel is tougher.

I'm a little curious where the Nascent Dawn x/5 quest is heading. The reward this week is "only" a masterwork version of the same gun from last week. I'm guessing that 4 or 5 will be an exotic version of that rifle.

At some point I'd like an exotic badge of some sort. That one of the only things they're missing. There are a ton of badges, but most of them are tied to things nobody cares about like hidden sectors or random story missions. How about an exotic one for killing 30K enemies or 5K players? Or one for completing a certain number of secrets (like the prophecy weapons and whatnot) that's a little more general. It's why most people are using the same 5-6 badges. Nobody wants to rock a badge that brags about finding 3 hidden sectors on Io.

Now I still have to do Nascent Dawn. I'm at 2/5. Any tips for me going into all of that?

Yay! That mission is a sonofabitch. Luckily you can die as much as you feel like up until the final bosses. If you want to save your ammo, just keep stabbing the Psions, die, and then repeat until you whittle them down. For everything that isn't a Psion, you can just run past it. The key is to save as much ammo as possible for the final battle.

The last fight involves 2 fully shielded Psions that have 2-3 waves of Cabal with them. Your weapons barely hurt the Psions and they can kill you in 2 shots.
You also don't regen your health unless you run all the way down the stairs to the bottom area. The best strategy I found was to start by killing all of the Cabal.
Once it's just a Psion - use the Nighstalker's melee grenade that causes them to become blind/stunned. No clue why, but in that fight those grenades regen instantly! You can basically put them in an endless loop of stun/blindness. Any gun can hurt them in that state, but unless you're doing heavy damage their shields will come back. Use a sword. You can land like 6-7 slashes on them and remove about 1/4 of their life per stun. You'll run out of ammo before one dies, but the first one will drop more power ammo. Repeat that on the second one. Once your sword ammo is totally gone, try the Skyburner's Oath. It hurts Cabal more than most weapons and it tends to have a lot of ammo. This fight will probably take a little while, but it's relatively safe as long as you're willing to run like hell down the stairs any time you get hit. Just keep using those grenades and the Psions themselves are mostly harmless. Without those grenades that fight is TOUGH, though. It's hard even getting enough hits to break their shields.

Man. Getting 10 Escalation Protocol wins is going to be a pain. I hate being reliant on large groups of other players for things. I managed to get through one, but this is going to suck. On the plus side, my Prophecy full-auto shotgun is now at level 365 and it actually does pretty heavy damage to those ogres at the end. I'm fairly sure I would have won some earlier events with this thing.

Anyone else notice that the Clan rewards don't appear to be "powerful" anymore? The last two weeks in a row have netted me gear that's no better than a typical blue drop. Maybe it has been like that, but now that I'm trying to level up again it's definitely noticeable.

Last night crucible just plain stopped working. I played 4-5 rounds then it broke and when matchmaking it would count players up to 8, my ship would take off, it would go to a black screen, and then return to the matchmaking screen and count players again. I tried 3 times, even reset my computer, and the same thing happened .... so I exited Destiny 2 and watched the Rockets beat golden state.

I played a few rounds of normal Quickplay and it seemed normal. Not sure if they added new levels or if they just never showed up in Quickplay, but in the last week I've had two totally new Crucible maps show up for Titan and Mercury. This is with somewhere around 200 matches under my belt, too.

I'm still loving the Graviton Lance. I've gone from average to #1 or #2 on my team in nearly every event. It hits so hard from so far away that I get kills from the other side of the map constantly. It's even pretty solid up-close, too. I don't really even use my other weapons much.

As mentioned, don't turn in the Clan Rewards. After the weekly reset they'll show up in your inventory with the correct level, but they won't be highlighted, so you have to hunt in your gear for them.

My weekly clan rewards have already been turned in and broken down for scrap. I typically do the planet public events and 5 crucible matches ASAP...which in turn will net me the clan rewards, too. Guess I'll just have to deal with a pair of dud items this week. I almost dread playing strikes now. I hate how long the Vex mind and both Mars Strikes are...and those are the only ones I keep getting. Are the Nightfall strikes uber-hard now, too? Before they were barely tougher than a normal strike. If the normal ones are rough, I'd hate to face one of those Mars strikes designed for someone at level 380.

Same here but I'm sitting on it. Not turning anything in.

Nascent Dawn 2/5 parameters have changed unfortunately. Now they give you restorative light from some kills (restores some health and adds to supers level) and higher/faster jump. Supers charge faster and do more damage.

I'm going to try your advice but the unlimited nades are gone so I've got to figure something else out.

Interesting that the parameters for those quests change. Hopefully the 3/5 changes if I can't complete it this week. Getting 9 more Escalation wins sounds like a total pain in the ass.

In the Psion 2/5 battle, a faster super might also really come in handy. I'd switch over to a Gunslinger. In particular, the 6-shot variety. Once the Psion is alone, they tend to stand around waiting for you to approach. If you go up the stairs slowly, you can probably toss a normal grenade and follow it before he moves. Start with a your knife throw, followed by activating your super, unloading rapidly, and running before he can hit you twice. Then chill at the bottom of the stairs and let it recharge. If you do that 2 times, I bet that would be enough to kill one. Having a sword available also goes a long way if they're alone. The key is getting his shield down and a sword can do that in a few swings. 3-4 sword swings followed by a super will probably do heavy damage.

I pretty much just do the Flashpoint and Clan XP on my 3 toons, then done for the week. Just nothing I'm too motivated to do anymore as a solo player. Clan is dead. I get the Clan XP after the weekly reset.
