According to a blog entry from Cisco (since removed) they are going to pull all of their online ads from YouTube because they might appear on a channel that shows sensitive or extremist content. This makes sense because back in April CNN reported that ads from 300 companies ran on extremist channels. Regardless, no one wants their ad to appear on a channel that is polarizing or extreme so I can understand why Cisco is doing this. However, I'm kind of puzzled that they would remove their blog entry discussing this move.

The companies may have unknowingly helped finance some of these channels through the advertisements they paid for YouTube, according to the CNN report.

I wonder what the direct affect of Youtube advertising is, especially for products like Cisco. How many sales or potential sales would be lost, vs the expenditures of the advertising. There has to be some advertising, I know that, but how effective is it? I imagine a company like Cisco didn't make this decision out of altruism, they probably saw that YT ads weren't that valuable for sales, and figured it would be just as well cutting them completly.

Are we going to start shooting cisco switches now like we did the yeti coolers? That would be entertaining to watch on youtube.

You're pretty much spot-on. Most of Cisco's sales are either through the channel or through C2C direct deals and the effectiveness of YouTube ads on either of those segments is minimal. C2C is mostly accomplished via mid-management cold calling while the channel sales are done by guys who sell the product for one of four reasons: they like the brand, they like the product quality, they like the kickbacks they receive from Cisco or it's what they buy because their sales rep told them to.

Most of their consumer sales dropped of a cliff after they sold Linksys to Belkin and consumer sales is where YouTube ads have the highest effect. The only reason they still probably advertised was because it was inexpensive for them and it helps with brand recognition. With everyone getting their panties in a knot over the outrage of the week nowdays it's probably no longer worth advertising there just for brand recognition.

Isn't conservative content considered "extremist" by the loony left therefore censored?

If you consider conservative content propaganda, and outright disinformation done to promote a agenda specifically denigrating a part of the population of America. Then yes. I see you are well on board with that as well. (Loony Left comment.) Enjoy your hate!
