Developer: "There is absolutely no adoption for the Windows (10) Store"

Check super netflix app on Chrome.

I don't believe that review is correct, this doesn't add 4k support to Netflix. Tried this out last night and the streams were still limited to 720p though it looks like you can play with the bitrate, which is just a function of the HTML 5 player.

I use the Mail/Weather/Calendar apps that were bundled with the OS. They're just pulling for Google, so it's not like that took much effort.
The only downloaded apps I'm using are social media related and Netflix. Well, that and a couple Windows store exclusive games like Gears.
It's not that I dislike the store so much as there's just no reason to use it. The apps are quirky.

An airplane is the only place where I might not have internet access (although many provide one nowadays). I wouldn't want to watch netflix in a car due to a chance of getting motion sickness. I enjoy the free time of airplane travel by plugging on my Bose noise canceling earphones and sleeping.
ok so you dont use it so you see no point? what about families that want to load a tablet with shit for the kids to watch? someone going to the lake with no wifi so they d/l a series to watch while there. think....

There are plenty of destinations around the world without free (at least visible) Wi-Fi and the big US wireless carriers are still stingy with international data. Highly developed countries, too. Germany's Wi-Fi sharing laws make it a prime example, but there are other dead zones in central Europe. That doesn't even count random dead zones and remote parts of the US.

If you're using Windows 10 there are things in the Store that can be very useful. Netflix, Hulu, Xodo, Spotify, iTunes, etc. The failure of Windows phones has obviously hurt the Store thus way there are things line Project Centennial to repackage Win32 apps like Spotify and iTunes. A lot more work needs to be done but still there are apps there that can be of use to most folks.

Not a single one of those apps listed in your post have any value to me. The Windows Store was opened once on my PC to look at it, saw that it had no value and hadn't even crossed my mind until I saw this thread. Based on the information in the OP, it seems that most people share my view of it.

I've had Netflix and Hulu subs forever now. Started using Spotify about a year ago. No reason for me not to use free apps for services I'm paying for especially if they have capabilities not found elsewhere like Netflix. Xodo is actually a VERY GOOD PDF reader/light editor. The UI is simply faster than any Win32 PDF app I've ever used. I've got a number of games, utilities, etc. It's not anther store and software source and it houses some Win32 apps I use it's cool to have those updated through the store. If don't want to use it or hate on it, fine. No reason not use it for me.

My 4k tv has its own android netflix app so why would I use windows for that?

I have a regular TV.. not a "smart" TV. It is basically just a big monitor with a TV tuner in it.

To stream Netflix and whatever else from my computer, I use a Chromecast.

I still just use the Netflix website because it is much simpler to stream from a Chrome tab than it is to trick it into streaming other stuff.

Well I don't subscribe to Netflix at all, I still get my media the old way so I don't care what apps support 4k. ;)

Windows is planning on handling updates through the store. New versions will come with a "updateclock", which is a pretty crystal you can put in the palm of your hand. Instead of waiting for the update to complete, the crystal will transition from yellow, then to blue and then to red. When the update is just about done, it will blink red and finally turn black (off) when the update completes.

Weird thing is, if you install Linux on the same box in place of Widows, the crystal mysteriously turns clear.

Ah yes you mean the sort of games that run wonderfully in Dosbox and wine. lol

~/.dosbox/nano dosbox-0.x.conf
fullscreen=true
windowresolution=4096 × 2160
output=openglnb
aspect=true

Sure. Because nothing could possible go wrong with this.

How do you think windows users are playing old games like Doom in windows 10 ?

Doxbox runs perfectly in Linux.

I don't know if you gain much jacking the res up to 4k but you can if you want I guess. :)

The games in that 4k video are quite that old, many of them are on Steam and in the case of Crysis even in Origin and you can purchase and install them like anything else. I doubt much prior to DX 9 would be able to do anything with a 4k monitor.

Sometimes if feels like it takes 30 years for the new Windows update to get done. Linus's Run.

Well, a minority of people anyways. I would imagine that quite a few people use those apps on his list, regardless of the fact that you do not use them. However, that does not mean that MS has done right by the store either, short of a few good apps and Play Anywhere games.

With what was announced today I think things are head on the right path:

1. With MSIX installers, any Windows app, Win23/.NET/UWP/WPF can be deployed stand alone, through the Microsoft Store, through any other store and even on Windows 7.
2. 85% of the revenue when an app is bought directly in the store 95% when linked from a developer's web site.

No additional packaging work has to be done when using MSIX just to sell through the store and the cut will be so high that it makes getting billing, deployment and updating though the Store just about worth it. The one really odd thing about it, it doesn't apply to games, the revenue cut that is, MSIX still applies. I'm almost certain that this was to appease Steam and not to get into a developer price war with them.

We don't have lakes here that don't have unlimited LTE (we have about 100 000 lakes btw) and we also have no download caps. So kids can watch shit directly from the internet whenever they like.

I doubt much prior to DX 9 would be able to do anything with a 4k monitor.

Most games can be modified to support 4k, especially if they store their resolution settings in an .ini file. Some even have unofficial patches to support widescreen/higher resolutions. The larger problem is that for these titles, the UI typically doesn't scale properly to resolution, making the UI too small to use. I have a few titles running GLIDE/OGL/DX7/DX8 that run in 4k without too much issue.

Quite frankly you seem to live in some past technology where you need to carry shit with you.

Well that's one of the great things about the cloud and streaming services, you don't have to necessarily carry it with you. But there are still plenty of scenarios where devices need to work disconnected.

you in and contribute nothing in every windows thread, tell people they are wrong/stupid cause you dont like or use something and then turn personal attacks, hence the laughing.

He pollutes tons of Windows threads with zero knowledge of what he's talking about. Fine, he hates Windows, WTF is he getting into Windows issues?
