Man Mauled to Death by Bear While Taking Selfie with It

After reading the responses in this thread it's quite clear why we are okay with treating the poor like we do, and why we'll never have a single payer health care system. Human life no longer has value.

I'm fairly certain most of us have done something so reckless in our lives we could of died from it in recollection. It's called being human.

My only hope is one day most of you will do something so stupid it scars you for life and someone records it and posts it to the internet. I won't be there laughing, but the people standing by who could help will be, and rightly so.

I don't know, it's a very competitive market. Last year we had people eating Nintendo Switch cartridges, eating concentrated laundry detergent, some Youtuber convinced his wife to shoot him with a Desert Eagle, and another Youtuber stuck his head in an active microwave. It seems like you really have to bring your A-game for people to notice your stupidity on the internet nowadays.

That or be a hot chick with a low cut shirt...

On a more serious note, all those people and nobody grabbed a rock / large branch or anything to even try and help, just yell and watch! WTF

The dog in the video that went after the bear to help him has a badass streak.

Well, here the thing, COMMON FUCKING SENSE WILL TELL YOU NOT TO BE NEAR A REALLY FUCKING LARGE ANIMAL WITH:
1. Really fucking large paws with really fucking sharp claws!
2. Really fucking large head with a really fucking large mouth that has really fucking sharp teeth inside!

Seriously, this should be ingrained into our survival instincts dating back to when we were hairy apes on the plains of Africa!

, and another Youtuber stuck his head in an active microwave........
Oh lordy, giving himself a tan!? lol

It is a wild animal, a powerful and semi-predatory one at that, so treat it with respect, maintain a decent distance and don't be an idiot. Ps. human life is actually pretty worthless other than as a consumer.

If just one person had had a firearm, they would have been able to save him... :sour:
He may have been stupid, but he was still a human being.

Very doubtful, bears are notoriously resistant to firearms, your pretty much hoping it is scared off and doesn't charge you, or that the firearm is of the ridiculously large category.

Looks like the indoctrination is complete.

 I am consumer, insert debt.

Some of these responses make me wonder if people actually read about the incident.

The guy filming the whole incident is a bit loose in the head, but the guy getting mauled was given fair warning by all of his friends, and he refused to listen. At that point, you can't reasonably expect someone to come to his aid, and get mauled in the process themselves.

And no, the bear wasn't just left lying there either. It was tranquilized and taken in by some wildlife authority.

Internet ninja heroes who would likely do nothing in real life.

I've run into bears (black and brown) in the wild, hell I had one try to break into my trailer when I was doing loss control on a well site a decade ago, stuck its nose through my kitchen window and started pawing at shit. I don't blame people for doing nothing, they are very hardy animals that would likely have severely mauled everyone there. The moral is, don't be a shithead around wild life, its WILD.

Maybe with some weapons they would have had a chance to get the bear off, but like others have mentioned, even a gun has a hard time stopping a bear.

I don't think it's them not wanting to help so much as not wanting to get mauled by a fucking bear. After all, getting close to it didn't work out so great for the first guy, I'm not sure why a second person getting close to it would necessarily work out any better.

exactly...it's easy to talk about helping the guy when you're typing on a computer but I doubt 95% of people would actually do it...it's a freakin bear, not a racoon

This was suicide-by-bear, and I support the right to choose.

So you finally agree with us then, great!

There's enough people there to hold the bear down and punch him in the nuts. Nobody there had a weapon? A spear, a rope, a bigger rock?

Most of those bears are somewhat domesticated... your ignorance is showing if you think people could just hold down a bear (let alone that punching it in the nuts is going to do anything other than make it madder).

Look, I live, hike and ride on the Rocky's man (Rocky Mountains), bear awareness and survival is a thing. One of those things you really must understand is that they are scrappers, prone to anger, and built like a brick shithouse. You are not going to be able to hurt it with your fists, and if enough people tackled it to pin it down, its going to be messy, it will mangle those close to it, and someone is likely to get crushed.

If you do not have proper bear mace and a bear attacks you or your group, you are lucky if someone is just mauled.

Bear survival 101 (if you can't just flee into a vehicle):
1. If its cub season, leave immediately.
2. Carry bear spray at all time.
3. If its black and there are no cubs, look big and try to scare if off (they tend to be timid right up until they are angry).
4. If its a brown or polar bear, play dead and pray it isn't hungry.
5. If its an angry bear, pray motherf*cker.

Edit: When using bear mace you need to know a few things, its effective range is 15', when the animal is charging you it feels REAL close. Also when you start hiking and every once and a while, check the prevailing winds, as it can blow right back on you. I've know lots of rig workers that both blew their mace early and had it blow right back onto them, basically turning a bad situation into a FUBAR one.

Why? Bear did not do anything wrong. He was injury, and he was just defending. If you wanted to help that stupid guy, then you would shoot him instead. That would help him to die less painful. It's about time that all idiots just need to stop taking selfies with everything.
Yep. I had a bear in my house once. It did $600 worth of damage and left me with a scar on my stomach (I was expecting a raccoon imagine my surprise when I flipped on the light and was literally face to face with a bear). I did not report it because I didn't want it to be hunted and killed for doing what bears do (it was after the dog food). My fault for not latching the back door properly.

Wow, favoring a wild bear over a human being, that's pretty fucking cold.
I'm not defending his actions at all, as no common sense was employed, but he is still a person with feelings, hopes, and dreams, and really should be valued over the bear, especially by a fellow human being such as yourself.

If you are ever attacked by a wild bear, everyone here can remember to make sure you are the one who gets shot to help you "die less painfully".
Seriously, though, if you really believe this cold ass bullshit you are spewing, you have some serious mental problems and have some seriously evil, narcissistic tendencies to the extreme.

I think there is a huge difference in a random bear attack happening in the woods to a hiker vs what occurred here - man was warned by friends to not approach not just a bear, but an injured bear, to take a closeup selfie with it. I see no inherent difference to that and purposefully jumping off a cliff; it's horrible for the person involved, but I'm not jumping off the cliff in a vain attempt to save you, either.

And societal shame does sometimes serve a purpose here - don't fucking take selfies with wild animals, and that goes 1,000,000x with large injured predators.

:jawdrop: I assume that set of boxers had to be tossed out after that encounter?!

Ha. I was actually so dumb founded I just stood there, the bear took a swipe at me and when I still didn't move it ran off. One of my dogs also was wounded it caused the tear drain in her eye to be permanently blocked so she always had a weeping eye after that. But despite the three standard poodles and one mini schnauzer and me it came back a couple of nights later I was coming home and it came running out of the driveway. I chased it with my truck to the end of the road, never came back, though I had a couple more bear encounters while walking the dogs (I have forest service on two sides).

A few months later one of my neighbors got busted, turns out she was putting out big tubs of dog food for the bears (ya' know, because they're so cute). So the local bears had developed quite a taste for dog food...takes all kinds.

Don't compare our society to India. If you are not familiar with what's going on there I suggest you do some research. You will never believe what you find out, I promise you. And it's not good.

I DO know whats going on over there, its fucking horrific. Saw the report on the man who was mentally disabled. He tried to talk to a child, nothing more then that. Unfortunately, it scared the child, who screamed.. and a group of people in the village stoned him and smashed in his skull. Secular violence and Caste interbrutality is rampant. Hindu and Muslim are @ each others throats over ideology and perceived superiority... you're going to say that isn't even familiar sounding?

As a long-time member of the site, it saddens me this is even reported here, let alone the video linked.

considering I conceal carry a .40 with 14 rounds, unlikely. ;-)

Yeah, that would do diddly and shit to a bear.

I've gone black bear hunting a few times and based on my experience, that bear would take all 14 of your .40 caliber bullets, charge you, take you down, kill you and then fuck you with your gun; probably not gently.

Sure it would probably bleed out an hour or so later.

Not necessarily: back in 1994, a hunter in Star Valley in Wyoming was on one ridge by a valley, when he heard a massive crashing sound on the other side of the valley: a grizzly was charging toward him (maybe 1/2-1 mile away? Been a long time). He fired off a couple shots into the air, to try to scare it off: no change, still charging. When the bear broke cover, it was making a beeline toward the hunter, who proceeded to empty his rifle (.308 or 30-06, unsure which) into the bear: no result, still charging. When The bear got close enough, the hunter emptied his .44 mag into the bear: no result. The bear mauled him, ripped off his right arm, tore out an eye, and many other injuries: yes, the hunter somehow survived.

The bear, however, was a young male grizzly, and was mortally wounded. It took many hunters and the park service two weeks to track him down and kill him.

Lot of internet tough guys in this thread.

Truthfully human life has had zero value throughout our history except a small window that was slammed shut last year.

Oh lordy, giving himself a tan!? lol

Eerily prophetic. I used to have this album on vinyl...

Thinning the herd...

Fuck people, save animals.

This dude had zero compassion for an injured animal, not only that but his attempted fuckery sealed his fate.

Bye.

to anyone thinking a .40 isn't enough for a black bear is crazy. If it was a brown or a grizzly no it would certainly not be, but for a black bear it is more than enough.

my 196 grain bullet, would make short work of a black bear. Tried and proven.

There, fixed that for you....

As for getting attacked by a wild bear...not gonna happen...I have enough goddamned sense to stay far away from them. anyone that doesn't, well that's their problem, especially in this day & age of open access to knowledge. "Hey, maybe I should look up the dangers of wildlife before I go hiking through the wilderness, alone & unarmed with anything but my cell phone, which i will use to try to take a selfie with this <insert wild animal here>!" Chomp! Crunch! Rip! Squish!

I have no sympathy for those who choose to be stupid.

How did that bear get injured in the first place? I wouldn't be surprised if this group of monkeys were the cause of the injury and the bear was just defending himself. They left the bear to suffer with a broken foot in a cage instead of putting it down. India is a disgrace. A brown stinky spot on this planet.

That bear was caught at the end of the video and will likely die by the hands of those watching that fight. The fact is, those people stood there and watched a man die. No attempt was man to save the man.

We feel sorry for animals but our fellow man we're OK if they die. Really sad.

No one is OK with others dying however, this guy brought it upon himself..so it is very hard to get upset with someone that wants a selfie with a bear...

I remember being in a national park ranger station asking for direction and a ranger comes in and explains to his co-worker he was late because there was a guy trying to get a picture of his kids riding a Black Bear.

PETA is and apparently a few people on here are also....

But I think we determined what kind of people PETA are in a separate thread last week ;)

Basket of deplorables in here, especially page 1.

Someone lost their life in a horrible way. They made a mistake. They did not harm anyone.

You are disgusting for making jokes or worse yet saying they deserved it. As of if haven't done plenty of dumb things on your life that could have cost your life...

It's always okay when it is someone outside one's own circle. It is how people are. Remember America's funniest home videos? Was a whole show back in early 90s(?) where people would vote on the funniest way people got hurt lol. This is nothing new, goes back even farther with written news. Death is entertainment, always has been. It is our primal nature that we can't outgrow.

It is the internet, you gotta remember everyone is perfect behind the screen. Some just say things to get people ruffled as well. I would worry less about peoples comments, maybe the really sick ones are the people posting their cell phone video of it?

I didnt click it yet, but did the selfie get posted?
